I listened to it on YouTube:money: loads have borrowed it from the library and the list orders, folding tips etc are all on Pinterest .
The kondo way is as much about changing your mindset so you don't keep filling your house with joyless stuff as it is about the initial culling of the joyless items you've allowed in or have fallen out of love with or is no longer useful

the rolled up clothing distressed me.. stretched socks and rolled up clothes is not happening in my house.. I am an expert folder so not changing that.

I was inspired to fling 4 binbags of my unworn clothes.. and now the books and ornaments and stuff are going out. It is between sizes and outgrown clothes I have issues with.

I've been chucking out for about 18 years.. lol...

I'm too tight to buy a book too!!

Yes i fairness i started chucking when child number 4 moved out. Shelves got taken off walls, stuff she didnt take got 'removed'. I started in the loft and have gradually worked my way through the house. Not much left to do in the house so the garden is next though i think i will meet some resistance to that.

What prompted me? Probably an uncertain future. Hubby have gone through our fair share of ups and downs over the last 10 years or so.... Plus the fact i would like to downsize.

Many reasons, but all valid ones (in my opinion).

Somehow the decision making is getting easier. At least with clothing. I no longer hold each item for ages but almost instantly decide to fold and put it away, donate it or throw it. And the wardrobe organising has made a huge difference. I already sorted my clothes by category so couldn't see what difference sorting them long-short would make. Well, it's meant that I can store my little suitcase inside the wardrobe with winter items in it, instead of on top of the wardrobe - the whole room looks better for it ...

Completely agree with this. As things come out of the wash, its almost instinctive to fold and put them in the Chazzer bag if they are no longer required on voyage. Odd, as for years they've probably been rotating in and out of drawers, laundry etc.

pigpen and Judi, With the stacks of books that I have, stopping stuff coming into the house and being on a tight income, I did a lot of research into this MK thing, convinced it was just another fad. I also had considered myself a hoarder, because of all my excess Stuff, and had researched that in depth. I eventually saw that MK's approach is entirely different from any other decluttering method and I bought the book. It is just SO easy. The book is worth every penny. :D

As I have said before, the 2 books that have most influenced my life are Germaine Greer's Female Eunuch, and Marie Kondo's Magic of Tidying.

Underneath MK's simple and quirky writing there is some serious psychology, but we aren't aware of it until we actually start kondoing. Then, we start noticing that we are thinking more carefully than we have before, and our attitudes are changing.

Prior to this, I had read books and joined Fly Lady and made innumerable attempts to gain control of my home, but nothing worked. It was just too overwhelming: the motivation died quickly and I was left feeling even more inadequate and guilty than ever. :o

So far, after 6 months, my motivation is not wavering, I'm still finding it really exciting working by category, and I am truly happy for the first time in years. Thanks MK and fellow Konverts!

    Hi, iTwin!

Until Kondo, I used to roll most things, but now 'folding and filing' makes more sense and space. :j

Now, I only roll my dusters. I did roll my towels, when I kondoed linens, but only because they look so cute... the bath sheets are folded, rolled, and standing on end like a row of soldiers, at the back of the airing cupboard, with the bath towels folded and rolled, lying in front - all visible, accessible, and tidy! :D

But I am going to try 'folding and filing' later, as a possible further refinement - anything to make life easier! :rotfl:

Same here - socks were the worst as I could never find pairs and just stuck the singletons back in the basket! But so many items were hung back in the wardrobe, even when I had to squeeze them in. Now I still have loads of clothes but they've room to breathe; I can make outfits so easily because I can see exactly what's there; and - best of all - if I pull it out of the wardrobe, try it on and it's not quite right - straight into the donation bag.
