Good Afternoon All,
I am busy dealing with electronic kondo this afternoon DH is busy in the garden.
Whilst reading the thread i have remembered that many of us seem to have issues with bookcases hoarding all sorts of stuff not just books.
I used to be a real bookcase addict but i kondoed them a few years back the reason being not books but junk. Its just dawned on me that i have been happily living without them for years now.
Bookcases with doors are a whole different problem to me nowadays.
Keep up the sterling work everyone,
regards:j0 -
Glad to know I'm not the only one going "off piste" IQueen! LOL
Am working my way through the laundry basket - a few more items in the donation bag and a couple of things in the bin. While I was putting them away (I know I'm supposed to purge first but I've mostly purged and need the bed space) I noticed my bookcase (yes, in the bedroom - at one point I had four x 6' cases so am down to smaller ones now, in only three rooms, not all of them) and thought to myself "go on, pick out a few and see if they spark joy". Well, quite a few of them didn't and I now have a full bookcase as opposed to an overflowing bookcase! On the way down to put the donation bag in the car I noticed a stray DVD - and went through the collection for any that could go. The upshot is that I now have 11 DVDs and 6 CDs to be sold and a few more to be donated.
I most definitely love MK's book!!Looking ahead0 -
Thanks for the advice iQ but I am sure if she had seen this she would have rung me by now
She knows how I feel about all the clutter as do all my friends and that I cant stand it
They just think I am a bit odd with my clutter free life but they accept they wont change me as I accept I wont change them and wouldnt want too anyway
:) OCD is mentioned a fair bit along with obssessed and addicted :rotfl:
But I am the one that has all the spare time and the clear head and easy life now so maybe they should try it
Pictures changed around in the bedroom the ones that I loved and escaped the kondoinglooking good so going to tackle the spare room next week and decorate that.
GQ your flat colours sound lovely and I am sure it is very peaceful and calm

No useful male relative/friend to pass them to.
Bin em. I did. Not missed a single one, they've been gone about 5 months now.
This thread has been a godsend for me - I never realised how depressed the house was making me until I started getting rid of stuff! Am finding it hard to stick to the MK order of doing things but as I've already gone through my clothes and did my books a while ago, it shouldn't take long to finish them and then move onto the paperwork mountain. I've noticed that the Kondoing seems to spill over into other areas without me realising. I was making breakfast and my eyes jumped to the jar of spatulas, etc. Immediate thought - get rid of that daft spaghetti lifter which I've never used and then - get rid of the jar - the tools would stay cleaner in the drawer. Now do I wait until I've reached the komono stage (which given the paperwork levels could take a long time) or do it while it's in my mind?
That's like my lime zester, who the heck needs a lime zester? I also have a barely used spaghetti doubrey
I am at dads today. Mum passed over five years agoand today we tackled her jewellery (still don't know how to spell it). It was lovely to liberate it all. There is one particular pair of earrings that I bought for her many many years ago and I asked if I could have them. Of course dad said yes
. Am so happy to have them. There are many brooches - mums disability meant that many types of jewellery were impossible for her to wear, so she took to brooches. I am not a brooch person, nut one or two are lovely and modern looking and I will have them too.
I love this processI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Well I had my first repurchase since Kondoing, a cable tidy box. I'd not used it in months because of how our lounge was arranged so it went but we rearranged the room for summer and I needed it again. I did get the larger size one this time though, so I'm considering it an upgrade. Not really necessary, but seeing a neat box instead of a tangle of cables makes me very happy indeed.
Treated us to some gorgeous new towels this weekend so the old ones will be thanked and sent off to our local animal shelter as there's still plenty of life in them. But getting rid of their drab brown colour (that was all the rage when purchased) brought much joy and really lifted our bathroom.0 -
Hi all
Been away for the weekend, which was lovely. Came home to a letter from DWP about my sons disability benefits which was not so lovely!
Things are fairly difficult here at the moment and all this decluttering is giving me something else to focus on other than my worries which is definitely a good thing.
Two mail order catalogues were on the doormat when I came home which have gone straight in the recycling. Have parceled up some things that have sold on ebay which took me ages but they can go in the post tomorrow. Waiting for one purchaser to pay.
Oh and I binned a carrier bag of assorted cables on Friday. Dont even know what half of them were.0 -
So that's one vote for Freegle, one vote for recycling depot and two votes for the bin (bin gets emptied on Tuesday):T.
Many thanks for advice.0 -
That did make me laugh June :rotfl: And brought back another memory which sadly I must share with you all
When I got married (1st time) In 1980 :rotfl:I got a set of those good quality Drab Brown towels which were all the rage in the day for a wedding present (think they were on my list in Brown
) I had them for 30 years and kondo'd them about 5 years ago
But they never seemed to wear out how the hell did they make them then ?
When I gave them to the animal charity and said I have some towels for the animals the lady said oh these are nice they are better than the ones I have at home.So I said well you have them and bring yours in insteadShe said I might just do that. So 35 years later the indestructable drab Brown towels are still maybe lurking and sucking the life out of someone elses bathroom.:rotfl:

Talking about off piste - Went to put my sons clothes back in his wardrobe, he has the small boxroom, his room is an absolute disgrace now I have looked at it properly, so instead of finshing my room I started picking up a few things in his room and almost cleared 80% of it and a huge bin bag later (I know now where all the crisps keep going
) I can see some of the floor again. The drawers on his wardrobe dont work and cant be used and when I pulled them out to clear there were clothes from when my DD was about 5! Thats how longs his wardrobe has not been cleared properly as the drawers are never used. That is now completely empty and I need to look for a new second hand wardrobe that will fit in his room.
I have a huge box and 2 bags of stuff for the CS. I just cannot get over how much stuff has left my house already and its only 2 rooms and there is still so much more to go through.
My DD has sorted her clothes but not put them away, I may sit and help her do that later. Once again her wardrobe needs fixing or replacing, I think my kids are heavy handed! And other stuff is properly cluttering her room but that is her domain. I dont know how she sleeps in there!MFW 16 No 33

I'm still working through clothes, as I don't have the time to focus on doing this properly at the moment. However, there is a definite change of mindset going on about what to hang on to. Thinking about whether something 'sparks joy' before putting it back or ignoring it makes a huge difference.
As I was cleaning today I removed several items from my sitting room that I have no idea why I was hanging on to. I've taken a bootload of stuff to the CS already, but clearly there will be more to go. For a start there are clothes in a pile to try on. If they don't fit/flatter/make me happy, they are going.0
