Trying to encourage DS1 that his socks would love to be relaxed and look like mine. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Hello everyone
I've been following the thread since the start as I am doing my own very slow Kondo along with you.
Just posting to let you know of a project that is looking for unwanted jewellery not just complete but earrings that have lost a partner etc. (I've just done my jewellery and amazed at how many orphaned or sibling-less pieces I was hanging on to - I just guess just in case their other halves every showed up again).
The project is called Junk: Rubbish to Gold and it's an art and performance initiative across the UK.
I've only asked for the details of the collection point nearest to me, which from June onwards will be:
JUNK rubbish to gold, Rachel Darbourne / C/O Victoria Sewart Contemporary Jewellery Gallery
39 Southside Street,
Plymouth
PL1 2LE
But if you have a look on their facebook page or twitter you might find out more. Or email: rubbishtogold (at) gmail.com
Well done on everyone's tidying, I am way behind you but always sparked on by this thread.0 -
Evening All.
Had to share this silly fact with you....
Today for the first time in ages (perhaps ever!) my dirty washing basket is empty AND so is my ironing basket! Today's washing has been dried and ironed and, until everyone has their evening bath or shower, there is no dirty washing either! :j
I am enjoying the moment, because it won't take long for the dirty washing basket to fill up again.
I've only Kondoed little things today.
I made a start on recipe books. I decided I needed to go against our Leaders rules and look through each recipe book to see if there were any recipes that I wanted to cook. I've only done 5 books so far because it does take time. From those 5 books there were only 3 recipes I wanted so I took a photo of those recipes on my iPad and all 5 books are off to my book lady. One was a Jamie Oliver book that a friend bought me for Christmas 2013 and I did feel guilty because she raves about it, but when am I ever going to cook pheasant?!
I also Kondoed the boys bathroom cabinet. Now I know I'm supposed to tackle toiletries as a whole but all the boys items are in this one place so felt it was fine to do it on its own. Looks much better and cleaner now.
MY toiletries are another matter though, and will take some time...
I took a break from paperwork this weekend because I sort it on the kitchen table and said table is used much more at weekends. Will start again with it tomorrow. Oh joy!Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Not a lot of kondo-ing done at the homestead but I have wrenched various small forms of plantlife out of the ground, root and branch. And have taken an Ik!a bagful of previously dried herbage to the tip.
Realised that I have enough washing powder for one more laundry load so can legitimately shop for some more (PB will be so relieved).
:j Oh, and the libary website has emailed me to say that my copy of The Chimp Paradox has arrived, yippee, will get that in the next day or two.
Was sowing some beans in flowerpots this morning and have realised that about half a dozen of them are on their last legs, so will be washed up and recycled when they've done this last job. Plenty of them still left in the shed.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Did a bit of work today, but less than I meant to because I just HAD to garden in the lovely spring weather. I'm finding the 'does it spark joy?' question helpful in the garden too - I was far more ruthless digging out old plants or ones I don't like - I've always been reluctant to do this because they 'filled a space', but I've realised if I don't give space for the stuff I DO like to grow and spread, I'll be stuck with the plants I DON'T like forever! So I tackled a very tangled bed I've been grappling with and it looks so much better.
Now I'm going to organise and dust the office, maybe with a glass of wine and some telly on the laptop to keep me company. I'm also going to try and consolidate some files. I have a neat row of magazine files, but they to take up a LOT of space, and some only have a few sheets of paper in them! There must be a better way...0 -
Not got very far today but so be it. I'm going to do my ironing now, busy tomorrow with paid stuff and cricket, hoping half term will see progress being made. The upstairs does feel nice and tidy and clean. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

LOVE your signature! :rotfl:
Towards the end of last year, I realised that I had never matured into an adult! (My poor children - raised by a child!)
Since beginning the MK process, I have found my Adult, but I haven't lost my youthful personality, thank goodness! :T
Thanks iqueen
I think I am normal but my 'children'(DDsx2 age 39 &36,DS age 37) are teaching their children that I am 'nutty Nanny'.All their in-laws are known as Grandpa and Grandma,my DH, who died a year ago was known as Grumpy!
Mind, you can see from the age range of my kids that I/we must have been mad,3 of them under 3 and a bit. Couldn't claim any benefits and was told as I was a registered nurse then I should go back to work.DH worked permanent nights,so I did 3 nights every other weekend after he had done 9 or 10 nights!
So I feel really well qualified to be a MMM member which seems to naturally lead to Kondoing from all the carp we save 'just in case'.
mrssYou can't stay young for ever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life.0 -
Been clearing DS old room today - in order to decorate ASAP
Hit a slight stumbling block in that i have found a whole underbed storage thingy with his christening presents in. All i can really say is "what a waste" - a pewter tankard, a fountain pen, a Winnie the Pooh china plate, bowl and mug that i didn't dare let him use, a silver tube to hold his birth certificate in (!!!!!! is that all about?? (pardon ma Francaise!)), a beautiful wooden Noah's Ark that was on display for a while, but never played with, a Benjamin Bunny figurine, and a Beatrix Potter piggy bank. DS is now 16 and currently couldn't give a stuff for such things. I can't ask him if they spark joy cos he'd think i was nuts and then say no. I guess they are going to go back in the storage thingy until he's older.Such a shame - why at least didn't i let him use the mug, bowl and plate???
In addition i have found several items died in storage (toy telescopes, shooting things, etc) and some have been overtaken by time - e.g some Thunderbirds toys that are very old fashioned now, some toy space shuttles, some electronics that now are very dated (old gameboys, etc). I feel a bit sad that they have sat under that bed for years when someone might have enjoyed them, and now they are only fit for the bin.
On the upside some aspirational me things have gone - the "one day I will speak German" books, the candle making set (bought for me by my now departed mum - i couldn't bring myself to get rid of them for years but, thanks to Marie, can say "thanks, mum, for the idea. I might have bought them for me too, but I now know that i will not do stuff like that". The candle thing certainly didn't spark joy, more guilt that I just haven't done it - it is better given to someone else to enjoy.
A bootload to the tip and 5 bags ready for the chazzer - plus some old toys of DDs that might just give pleasure to someone else.
All is wellI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thanks iqueen

Yep, I'm with you - 'just in case I don't use it'! What's the worst that can happen? I might have to visit a chazzer for curtains or beg on Freecycle!
My youngest 3 were all born in less than 3 years - and no twins! I must have been mad. (But it was fun.) My 5 are now 30-47.
Both my marriages failed, so I was a lone-parent and am also a qualified MMM, as well as being brought up in the 50s. I'm really grateful for that experience - it makes 'austerity' almost a doddle... so far! Fingers crossed.Been clearing DS old room today - in order to decorate ASAP

Save them for your grandchildren?

Not all children are lucky enough to be picky about toys being up-to-date. Donate them and spread the happiness! :j

All is well
Luckily, I have managed to control my crafting interests!I have been anti-consumerist for decades, and was immune to the persuasive 52-part magazines, showing me how to build my own power station out of ring-pulls.
I only have 3 craft hobbies and they are all useful and/or fun (providing me with a guilt-free chance to sit around all day) knitting and crochet, sewing, and painting. (Ignore the fact that 2 mean large stashes of yarn and fabric!) :rotfl:Needs, NOT wants!
No food waste since November 2010. :j
