Yeah, know what you mean about manufacturers, which was why the cunning plan is run the sock-ventory down to near zero then have a mass-buying session to get all-of-a-kind sockery going.
Life can be complicated, so any little bits of simplification which this simpleton can achieve will be very welcome.I sometimes wear odd socks in black; no one is going to crawl up your trouserleg at work and discover that one of your socks is 2 inches longer than the other.
Umm, or not at my workplace, anyway, maybe other have more colourful working lives.
LOL - well actually I spend quite a lot of my time sat on a desk talking to students, so they probably would notice :rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Odd socks are the larval stage of coathangers. If you count, you will see an increase in the number of coat hangers which exactly matches the number of lost socks.
Morning all
Feeling more positive about it all today. DS1's finished room looks fab. He got rid of some empty phone boxes, I dismantled the inners and kept the sturdy outers on the table. Returned them to him 2 hours later when he could not get all the wires in his drawer organsiedDH put his plug extension on the wall and he has neatly put all the cables together, hoovering under the desk will be so much easier. He said to me getting rid of the junk will make it so much easier to keep clean :T
DS3's books are on my radar today plus a bit more paperwork. Can't wait to do a CS and scrap store drop this week. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Hi everyone! Been absent for a few days - work, mostly - but have loved catching up on all you busy, organised people.
I have FINISHED the fabric and craft stuff. Kondoed quite a bit. Some stuff has already gone to CS, some waiting for donation to a school, some in the bin. It was a surprisingly emotional category - I have fabric pieces that bring back a lot of memories, especially stuff that belonged to family memebrs who are no longer around.
I need to work today, but I think I actually need to tidy my teeny office first. I've already kondoed most of it, but I want to whisk through the paperwork (it's already organised, so just a spruce up) and dust and clear out the final random bits from doing the craft stuff.
I've noticed that kondoing is MESSY until you get everything straight and back in the cupboard!
ETA: The babric, when neatly folded vertically, fit in one large plastic storage box. So pleased.0 -

I had a bit of a lightbulb moment as I Kondoed the other half of my wardrobe this morning (I did tops, cardigans etc a while back but left dresses, jackets and trousers till now). I realised that I don't love some of mine but can't throw them out - for example I need a black jacket for work purposes. I'm keeping the two that I have, but I am going to save up for a really good quality one replacement, too many of my clothes have been bought on the principle of 'it'll do'.
That got me thinking about the whole MK thing - it is very much about NOT saying 'it'll do' but making positive choices. I think women in particular are prone to saying this about themselves. I know I've put up with some things (and I'm not just talking clothes and possessions) because I was brought up with a 'don't make a fuss/it's not about you/just get on with it' attitude. Without wanting to sound like a tacky skincare commercial, I'm worth it!
MK's book might not quite be The Female Eunuch but I think it has an underlying feminist agenda! :rotfl:
Polly -This is so true, I have been thinking that myself ! I have chosen MariKondo's book for our bookclub to read next month...should be an interesting discussion!0 -
Everyone is doing so well:)
I have been going great guns, did quite a bit yesterday but am feeling really deflated, things seem to be going backwards. I am getting fed up of some categories still being in progress, they should be finished, I can't keep trying, it should have clicked by now, it is wearing me out, I spent quite a while in the kitchen yesterday, most areas are done, haven't tackled spices and drinks, but visually it should look great, but something's not right:(0 -

Stick with it Cpt.
I know how you feel, though.
When I was making space in my kitchen for kitchen things, the non kitchen items - ie the junk drawer - were just emptied into a box to sort later. I also had stationery drawer in my kitchen (why?!I only need 2 pens in there tops!). Again that has been emptied into a box until I Kondo stationery. So at the moment I have various boxes of "stuff" around the house that are awaiting their turn to be Kondoed.
I WILL get there but it WILL take time.
It is frustrating seeing these boxes but if I start to sort them now then I'm returning to my previous attempts at decluttering which never worked long term.
There's an old expression that sums it up but I cannot bring it to mind at the moment - basically you have to make the mess in order to get the end tidy result.
Can anyone help me with that expression please because it will bug me all day otherwise?
Edit: is it you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs?
Also what is the MMM thread please?Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Make do mend and minimise
Don't give up cpt574 - I have given myself a year to do everything - including shed and garage. I have been given hope through it all by the fact that the tidy things do stay tidy.
As we are mid decorating, my house is certainly in the "worse before it gets better" stage. We were going to launch straight into doing DDs room having finished DS's yesterday, but we have decided that the house and garden are such a state that we need to spend today doing those and postpone the decorating for a day or two - especially given that she doesn't live here. Though it means that her boxes of stuff will have to be hanging around a little longer (if we put them back in the room, we will never start).I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hi everyone,I am still trudging my way through PAPERWORK.It is a long haul and feel like the end is insight(fills me with joy!) but am a bit disturbed to read Matin's post-
http://blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2015/04/28/why-you-should-ignore-the-you-can-throw-away-bank-statements-after-six-years-rule/
I have already kondoed most of my bank stuff(Shredded/recycled/ burned) so I will just have to live with what I have done...it makes life easier anyway and saves me worrying about reclaiming in the future! !It is only money(ahem,I can ill afford to lose any however) and I am now enjoying a lighter life and systems as others are finding, knowing where everything of importance is.
Shame about any money I will be missing out on.
Just posting this so that it may help some people decide on how much paper to keep.0 -
Thanks clutterfree and vjsmum am feeling a little brighter:) just a bit fustrated that categories I feel I have done still don't look right, don't want to keep pulling everything out!
Bought some houseplants yesterday which I like, and moved a lamp in the lounge to a corner of the built in fireplace/ shelved area. Now in the evening with the lamp and two new plants it looks great, very 70's retro, and has really pleased me because I have never liked the area at all. The only problem is I now need a lamp for the corner I moved it from! It is only a cheap one from Ikea but the light from it is lovely and soft, may be a trip to ikea soon, shame the nearest is Warrington which is about 75 mins drive!
Don't want to spend the rest of the weekend on kondoing, but am tempted to do a bit more:)0
