Afternoon All - not so much Kondo'ing as decluttering. I have two file folders that I use for instruction books & guarantees etc. Just had them out & binned the paperwork from things that we no longer own or the guarantee has expired. Reorganised the folders for one for 'inside' stuff & one for outside stuff & DH's tools. Founds my old weight watchers Pure Points books so I'll free cycle those.
I've got lots of de-cluttering to do & I'm trying to Kondo as I go (very slowly!)Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Back from the swedish warehouse, friend was amazed by my restraint at not buying stuff, she was, oh such good value, me you don't need it, she was buying loads of storage, me you need to sort first before you know what storage you need. I'm officially a kondobore!
Off to finish the stuff that is half way sorted and then onto books.
Talking of the swedish store - I have kept the catalogues since 1998, I have them all plus Spanish, Japanese and American versions of some of them! Is today the day to let them go?
Finding sorting is stopping me from cleaning at all as I just want to sort! The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

Do they spark joy???
I have kondoed the small drawer unit to a friend for her husband - she reckons I've made a grown man happy.
Kondo'd the desk drawer - how many pens does a household need? As well as post it notes, highlighters, paper clips (who still uses paper clips??), enough staples to last a lifetime, rulers rubbers and pencil sharpners. Most gone, or put in yet another small plastic tray (peppers this time - who knew the additional benefits of all this salad eating? :rotfl:)
And the bottle of tippex (anyone still use tippex?) is too far gone for the thinners to save it. chucked. as is the plastic stationery drawer tray that is neither use nor ornament - just eat more salad
PS - anyone else looked at the "two less things" blog and been annoyed cos it should be "two fewer" ?I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
See, if a washer can eat a blouse, it's not going to even burp at a few socks. Same man also said the commonest cause for washing machine injury was underwires from bras which work their way out of the bra and go through the holes in the drum. I myself had a washer stop in mid-cycle and make horrible noises (it was a Bank Holiday Weekend, it must have known
) and the cause was a kirby hair grip in the filter. Once removed, all went fine.
alleybee, that's a totally awesome tally of decluttering and organisation - or should I say awe-ganisation? I'm envious. Congratulations!
Had a very busy time recently and forgot about this thread. Came back to it just now and read this post. Reminded me of the time I had to have the service engineer out to sort out the macerator loo in our shower room on the second floor. He was insistent that something must be in there that shouldn't and I was insistent that we were very careful to use the cheap thin loo roll and nothing else other than the usual being flushed down.
Went back upstairs when he called. It seems that during the night I had been to the loo and lost my thin headscarf down there! I am a wig wearer and having very little hair, wear a headscarf sometimes at night. Must have slipped off in the night.
I duly paid up and thanked him. His response 'it was a pleasure'. I told him that I found that very hard to believe!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Whenever I've stalled in this process, I usually find it's because I have slipped from asking 'does this spark joy' and started rationalising (well, it's not worn out; it could be useful; I might need a spare). Pens, pencils and biros are a case in point - I have more free pens than I could use in a lifetime, I started testing out which ones didn't work ... that's not the point. Some of them feel nice to use, some don't and I binned all those.
Having ground to a halt with paperwork, I tackled cookery books at the weekend and it was surprisingly easy - even ones given as gifts, even ones signed by the author. The best thing is that they now all fit on the shelf, I had them stacked in double rows before!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Thank you - you are right, i didn't ask if it sparked joy.

Oh - and PS: yes, I too get irritated by 'two less'!

Do they spark joy???
They do now I've looked on ebay to see the amount some people are trying to sell them for!
:rotfl:
Toiletries finished.
Went through DS3's treasure box with him and reduced it by half.
Few more random items bunged in the charity box whilst I was in the mood. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Righty, came in from work and found I had 5 items of 'post'. Anyone ever been tempted to weld the letterbox closed? Two were takeaway leaflets, so straight into the recycling. Two were white envelopes in mufti but when I opened them were policitcal bumph from our torydem muppet plus A.N. Other Party. Wherever do they get my name and address from?
Resealed both of those and marked them up as Return to Sender and Take me off Your Mailing List and will post them back again. Item Five was a catalogue from Goo Ootdoors, which I perused then recycled.
I was tempted by a couple of things but they weren't needed and I didn't want them before I saw them, so out they went.
Am eating from the leftovers and have saved some grocery money and donated it to the Nepal appeal on the grounds that their needs are a thousand times greater than mine, the poor beggars.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
