I'm on the part of the electoral roll which can't be sold for marketing purposes, does that mean that bliddy politicos can still get their paws on it for canvassing?

 we NEVER get bumph or visits from the Tories. Actually, I don't know that a Tory canvasser would escape from Shoebox Towers with their skin intact, but I'd probably pay good money to see them risk it.:rotfl:

After standing as a local candidate, in the past, they get a full copy of the register. Apparently, political canvassing is not regarded as marketing. Can't see the difference myself! :(

I've been inundated with paper from every candidate (even the no-chance Tory!) and their dogs - it would probably go a long way towards filling a ring-binder! A quick glance to find that the leaflets are full of the same carp from other media, and they go straight into the recycling bag, next to the front door! What a waste of money! :o

It was a long day MyHappinessProject ;) I just cant wait to get all this junk out of my house.I did work at a whirlwind pace yesterday.

My DH came in the bedroom at one point saw the massive pile of stuff on the bed and beat a hasty retreat. But came in later saying "Oh I love my sock drawer I can see them all":D

I cant believe how insprired this is making me feel somehow lighter and more in control of things.Very strange but I am itching to start this morning and will do soon.

I will update later on and look forward to hearing your progress.

Thanks for your posts, Mav. Congratulations on your amazing achievements!

Your whirlwind start made me think.

I've been plodding for weeks, slower than a snail. I'm still highly motivated, but I think I need to just get on and do it - it is the speed of success that keeps the motivation sharp. :T

Getting our homes and belongings under control is very empowering, because, in reality, we have little control in life! That is probably why kondoing helps us to look at other things we have the power to change, too. :j

Help! I've just found a bag with 3 small carved ivory :eek: crocodiles. They were my grandfathers and probably bought during the 30's/40's as i know he was in Africa then.
They certainly do not bring me any joy - far from it. How do I dispose of these??
I did googly them but all I came up with was dealers with antique stuff and these are quite crudely carved TBH I don't want to sell them anyway as it would seem immoral to me - any suggestions please?

I wouldn't want to profit from the Ivory either, definitely see where you are coming from there, but perhaps selling them and giving the proceeds to a charity which works for animal conservation would be a more palatable ending?

My sentiments exactly - but TBH I don't think they would be worth much anyway as they are not particularly attractive IMO - I just would like to dispose of them ethically. Happy to give them to a CS but not sure if they'd take them - will ask

I wonder if they would be useful to an animal sanctuary or animal park to show what has happened historically? I'm sure I've seen displays at some of them to show why they commit so much money to protection or conservation.

Good idea Joey - Marwell isn't too far from me and there are a couple of places on the IoW that may be worth investigating - Thank you

Made a really good start on books, large box ready for CS shop. Few for DSs to see if they want. One more cupboard with another genre in.

I had hoped that the magazine files would fit on one of the empty shelves but the doors will not shut so I may need to move books from the other cupboard into this room as the cupboard there is deeper. Also I have not sorted the paperwork in those yet, maybe it is KM telling me they will not need to be stored!

I always regard political canvassing as a damnable insult to our intelligence. It's like Oh, OK, I shall just forget everything you and your party have done (or have failed to do) for my kind of people for the past several years/ parliaments/ centuries and base my decisions of some printed materials/ broadcasts/ door-knocking in the weeks running up to polling day?

I know that we are opted out of the "open" register, the sellable bit, and we have had personalised mail to both of us. Only election staff, candidates, political parties & peeps in elected roles like councillors or sitting MP can use the "full register".

For those who are further along the road than me how do you stop despair from setting in?

Clothes done (mine but boys and DH do their own and are not too bad)
Books done (mine, need to encourage other family members)

Paperwork next but I can't help looking around, thinking about the full loft, garage and shed and thinking OMG this is going to take so long, will it ever end.

If you take a look at this post on a blog called wait but why.
It was recommended by a poster on here. Sorry I can't remember who.
It's really regarding procrastination but further down the post it has I think the best thing I've read ever on getting things done when overwhelmed.
It talks about tasks as a whole being too much.
However starting a task and just chipping away brick by brick.
That's using an analogy of a person wanting to build a house.
A procrastinator sees the finished house all furnished and decorated.
The builder builds a house brick by brick and doesn't stop until it is finished.
That goes for everything that needs to be accomplished
Bit by bit brick by brick every day.
