Today is OHs birthday and a friend, knowing that we are trying to de clutter, bought him a leg of organic lamb :rotfl:
What a fantastic pressie. We will look forward to it, thoroughly enjoy it and have none of it left :T. We are beyond thrilledI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
So it's almost midnight on a Saturday night and I have the overwhelming urge to go fold my daughters pants...0

Have been reading the book tonight, and while loving some of her ideas, will never empty my handbag and thank my purse when I come home:eek: Not unless i've been in the pub for a few hours;)
Am hoping to start with my clothes tomorrow:o"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

It's great when people think about the recipient rather than buying a generic gift-like thing out of convention. I had lovely feedback from the friend who opened her big bottle of birthday gin last weekend, with the personalised homemade card. She was very pleased with both and the gin will be drunk in the next few months (G & T being her tipple of choice) then the bottle is recycled. She's a minimalistic older lady and certainly doesn't want knick-knackery.
Yesterday I finished a library book which was a bit of a doorstopper and returned it, coming away with Bea Johnson's Zero Waste Home which I'd read last year but fancied re-reading after poking into the archives on her blog. I think it would be of interest to some of us kondo-ites; http://www.zerowastehome.com/
Today I will allotmenteer for a bit, get some milk, and may make a chazzer run with the large rolling holdall. If I need that much space to travel with, I'd rather not travel at all being my opinion, now.;)Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Candygirl, I too am never going to thank my shoes/handbag - but you take from this what you need. I have (honestly!) found that saying 'thank you' to a much-loved item of clothing that is worn out has made me feel better about discarding it!
VJsmum - what a fabulous present, a leg of lamb. I try and give consumable presents (flowers, alcohol, chocolates) these days rather than stuff but I hadn't thought of actually giving food. Your friends are very inspired, and/or they know you very well.
I am struggling a bit, I seem to have stuff everywhere and I'm losing focus. I think I may take a break by doing a small and clearly-defined category, like a subset of books (I have far too many to do them all at once).Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Morning All,
I've been reading all your posts and links and found them very inspiring. Sorry I've not commented individually.
I'm still stuck in bed. This cold started a week ago and has got progressively worse - been in bed almost constantly since Wednesday afternoon. I'm guessing it's more than a cold tbh especially as I've now got conjunctivitis in one eye.Looks like a trip to docs tomorrow (can't remember the last time I went - it's been years). So my aim next week is to Kondo this cold/bug thing.
Even once better, it will be a while before I can do any Kondoing here because I've a weeks worth of chores to catch up on both here and at my dad's house.
Feeling sorry for myself!
Have a good day xxAgeing is a privilege not everyone gets.

Yes, I could not do with the 'emptying handbag' idea - I only use one handbag. I was already in the habit of clearing out any excess, eg: receipts, on a daily basis... however, since I started kondoing, I have got into a terrible, new habit of leaving the receipts to accumulate!I must pull my socks up, or my handbag will end up as a waste-bin!

I think, sometimes, we need to have 'permission' to discard, and thanking stuff does that for me, too.
My books are also being dealt with in sub-categories, because the total is too great to handle, at once.
I have found, as others have, that sub-sets can help us to focus more clearly. I haven't done the kitchen yet, or komono as a category, but I think sub-sets will be really helpful when I get round to them.Needs, NOT wants!

And I have over 40 tubes of toothpaste..............and in my defence they were being thrown out:eek:
I have just bought my first lot of soap since I moved into my first home... 10 years ago. I'm still working my way through the fairy liquid pile
I also 'stockpile' things that will be useful to me - cleaners when they are on offer, etc. I buy enough to last till I think the next offer will be on that item. It is wasteful of my resources to do otherwise (IMHO), even if it doesn't exactly fit within this principle. The important thing to me is that it fits the way I choose to live my life.
Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to caress my beautifully folded sock drawer :rotfl:0 -
I posted a few weeks after doing my underwear drawers which are still nice and neat
Have finally caught up on the thread.
I am fortunate in a way as I have only had my house for 5 years (before just rented a room) and have always had a lodger in the spare room so not too much clutter but still areas to work on. I have now started to rent my room on Airbnb on a casual basis after she moved out so it helps that it's tidy and clutter free. Unlike you lot though I sm having to increase my stock of towels and bedding to cope with the changeovers- I have never washed so much in my life!! I am also having to keep the house very clean and put everything away so it's lovely looking around! But like others the cupboards are stuffed!
I have two bags of clothes for the chazzer which are now in the boot of the car after an unsuccessful trip yest where I couldn't get parked on the road nearbybut at least they are out the house!
I have also been kondoing random items as I come across them, mainly offering for free on gumtree.
I have just got the book and am taking it on holiday so proper kondoing will start when I get backvery inspired by those of you that have completed it :T
