    Hello Kondoers :hello:,

Heard about the book on Memory Girl's blog and started clearing out paperwork as my first category in the middle of February because for me it is the most urgent and fairly easy to decide what to keep. Lots of bags of shredding and recycling have left Ocean towers and there's still plenty to go.

I shall do books next as that will be fairly easy too. I know there are some which I can let go straight away and I will read those which belong to other people (already started on the first one) so they can be returned to their rightful owners. Then I shall read those which belong to me and I know I will only want to read once and let them go, followed by any others which are unread and I may wish to keep.

I'm approaching things slightly differently because I have always been fairly organised and don't have things which are duplicates etc hidden away and the books haven't been left unread because they've been forgotten but rather because I haven't had the energy to read.

My muddle has been caused by moving to a smaller home whilst immobile and I don't have room for everything that came with me. I've always been a "let it go as soon as it is no longer useful" kind of person so this is an unusual state for me to be in and a cause of lots of frustration. Chronic fatigue and other health issues mean things have built up and I have to take the decluttering very slowly to fit in with pacing other things each day so it's going to be a long journey.

Back to the paperwork, I do clear out my bills etc annually after my tax return has been completed and have a system whereby that year's papers are put in a box and labelled then they go into the loft and the box from 7 years previously is removed at the same time and shredded with no need to sort through as that will have already been done before storing. It works for me.

I am dreading starting my clothes because I like what I have but have had to face the reality that a lot of it is now impractical for my current life. However it has to be done because there isn't room for everything and the piles in my bedroom are getting me down.

Thank you to everyone who has been posting on this thread. I have read it all the way through over the last couple of weeks and it has helped the principles within the book to really sink in.

:) Evening all and a warm welcome to all the new people, so great to hear your stories.

I went briefly to my allotment late this afternoon to deliver a fencepost which we'll insert into my 'trigger's fence' at the weekend to replace a damaged post, which I'm planning to turn into kindling sticks for a friend who had a fireplace.

Whilst I was up there, I had a little wander around the site and OMG, does there need to be some serious kondo-ing up there, I was itching to get my mitts on it, and couldn't, because it wasn't on my plot. Ohh, the frustrations.:rotfl:

Things are keeping pretty good at the homestead, much to my surprise as I was behind the door (probably reading) whilst the Tidyness Fairy was handing out the special tidiness traits to some people.

Had a brief convo with Mum tonight on the phone, had I seen her new chequebook, the one sent to replace the old one because the bank was changing its sort code? Bearing in mind I live 30 miles away and haven't been at hers since New Year..............lol.

I talked her through some possible places, based on what I know of her untidy paperwork habits, and identified one possible place which hasn't been properly searched, just given a surface-rootle. She will have a good go at it tomorrow.

Which reminds me of the counter-argument when messies decry tidiness as a waste of time and a sign of someone who hasn't got something more interesting to do - you waste a lot of time and burn up a lot of emotional energy looking for stuff. Tidiness is ideal for lazy, busy, creative types who need to be getting on with things rather than searching for them.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks to Grunnie for following up and posting that You-Tube link!

Thanks also for the kind welcome to the forum. I'm hopeful that by being on here it will inspire me to keep Kondoing until the job is done - I think it's going to take a while...

I didn't say in my original post, but my Dad took all the stuff away to the CS for me - I gave it a little wave and said thanks (to the stuff, and my Dad) once it was all in the car, and it made me really happy! So, whilst I may not thank every item I discard (out loud at least) I think I will thank them by the car load.

    GreyQueen I couldn't agree more.
We started this journey because we couldn't find the cheque book when it was needed, much to my shame.
The cheque book hadn't been needed for many months. It is now found and safely filed, :-)
Thank you for all the inspiration to everyone on this thread

    Evening all,

Not doing a huge amount of kondoing at the moment, but I am certainly enjoying the fruits of the kondoing I have already done!

Just done the ironing (well, most of it) and it has all been put away in its correct place, surfaces are all clear in the kitchen AND what I am wearing to work tomorrow is hanging up outside the wardrobe all neat and ready to wear!

Still got several areas that quite frankly scare me........under stairs coat closet, boxes of crafting stuff, the rest of my books......, what I did find easier than expected was photos, after a few rounds of name that mountain/person I met on holiday/work colleagues from 15 years ago I suddenly found that 3 albums and 8 packets became half a small CD storage box, if I can that the rest of my clutter doesn't stand a chance

    Keep Kondoing

Thanks to the poster who mentioned the pomodoro app
It's brilliant I got a lot done yesterday with it
I often need to take short breaks when doing chores ect.
As I run out of energy quickly.
This is basically a timer, with built in 5 minute breaks
I found the ticking clock sound irritating
However, you can switch to silence or listen to your radio or audiobooks.
You can adjust the lenth of 'work time' to suit energy levels
I set mine yesterday at 15mins with 5minute breaks.
    (I was very tired yesterday)
But hey it got me getting through stuff.
    Thanks again.
