Hit my first snag last night. I've done clothes, shoes, kitchen, airing cupboard so decided it was time to do the carp drawers in my bedroom. I have 2 that are full of 'stuff' - sunglasses, makeup, jewellery, hair grips etc etc, you know what I mean. This is without the 2 boxes that have overspill in them and the 3 drawer unit in the bathroom that has make up in it

Anyhoo - drawer one. Full to the brim, really wish I had taken a photo. So I did my normal trick of pulling it out one by one and sorting into 'interim' piles/boxes - big box of toiletries, bag to go downstairs, oh look there's another screwdriver, jewellery dumped in a box. There was some throwing away but at this stage it's about me getting everything together so I can properly see what I have before I decide what brings me joy and is staying.
And I found the sixpenny bracelet my great grandad made for me when I was about 8 - so almost 40 years ago. What do I do with it? I've never ever worn it, it has been moved around from house to house and thrown in numerous drawers/boxes. It's not one of the things that I have an instant 'love' sensation with. Logically I KNOW when I die my son will throw it in the bin. But it feels bad and wrong to pick it up and drop it in the wheely bin. It has no value.........actually writing this I am thinking maybe I should just put it in the chazza bag........ maybe SOMEONE would want it? I can't see why as it has no beauty to it but hey, people are strange.
Ok, that's sorted that one out.... I think

OK.. I've bought it! Decided to buy a 'hard' copy then I recoup some of the cost when I sell it on
Bought it from ebay as found a cheaper deal for a new copy on there than amazon and used some of my paypal balance (from decluttering!) - and also got nectar points
Don't expect I'll get it until early next week - which is probably good, as this week I've got a funeral to attend, a school event, my birthday and 2 nights out - and I'm coming down with a cold
In the meantime I'm still carrying on decluttering - over 250 items/ sets of items gone so far this year
ETA: Have just been through present and card stash under my bed - sorted it all (in storage boxes
) and got rid of one item to charity (was an unwanted gift to me and I can't think of anyone who might possibly like it!) and 1 to my ebay pile. Also got rid of half a dozen unwanted cards to the charity pile - not my taste at all from several multi packs. Have made a list of what is there and who I'm giving it to (majority now allocated except for the kids' party presents) - I plan on running it right down - the kids go to less parties as they get older and I don't plan on buying items throughout year unless they are for specific people. Any non-specific (adult) items left after Xmas this year will be donated to charity (or if bath type sets maybe used by us if my toiletry stash has decreased sufficiently!!)
I also managed to find items to sort both Mothering Sunday gifts in there :TI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Take a picture of it. Store it on your phone/hardrive/online storage, back it up then send it to the charity shop where some one might appreciate it more than you do.And I found the sixpenny bracelet my great grandad made for me when I was about 8 - so almost 40 years ago. GQ you old romantic you! Must be the full moon;)
Apparently, if you are under 25 it is simply not done to wear matching socks.
(Nor is it done to put the dirty socks in the laundry basket, grrrr)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

Can't wait to reach this point - will we identify fellow Konverts of the higher plane of Kondo by their serene calmness, long floaty robes and ability to samosa/fold anything :rotfl:"Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

And I too feel for you with the dilemma of the sixpenny bracelet - but the picture is a great idea.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0 -

I have had an awful realization since I started Kondoing.......I am a hoarder, just not the kind that has filled all their rooms to the ceiling. Drawers full of hair dye, six packs of them, haven't dyed my hair in five years. Drawers full of old make up, eye brow pencils, lipstick, mascara, nail files, nail varnish, guess how long it is since I regularly wore makeup:o uh huh! I kept the makeup I have used most recently and the nail varnish I like the most and Kondoed the rest. What a wonderful feeling! I swear all that stuff was sitting in those drawers laughing at me, niggling at me and most importantly giving me no joy whatsoever.
Just need to decide what to do with my Grandmothers pigtails, she used to wear her hair in pigtails wrapped around her head. My mother was a hairdresser in her youth and when Gran wanted her hair cut short, my mum kept the pigtails and now, more than fifty years since my Gran died and thirty since mum died, I still have them (though I can only find one of them so far) Will have to give it more thought.Haters are gonna hate - you're not obliged to participate0
