Craftyscholar - I have not yet got to tops but I intend to put vest tops short sleeved then long sleeved starting with black so I know which section they are in - now not got that far yet so I could of course change my mind - what if Ikeep NOTHING in black
I have come to a bit of a halt doing my socks - I know why I have so many pairs and yes I am throwning stuff out - BUT I think I still have too many - the ones that bring me joy - lacy ankle socks the ones with butterflys and all the bamboo ones - might have to have a second cull - on the other hand perhaps I am supposed to keep them and not buy for about 10 years I think I have about 30 pairs - please dont ask why so many I started off with over 50 pairs of socks and that does not include walking socks - what a waste of money
I couldn't believe how many pairs of socks I had. You sound you had quite a range, but mine are only two styles, black cotton and white sport.15 pairs of the white and about 50 pairs of the black Whenever I shop online and there is minimum spend I make up the difference by adding socks and knickers to the order. As "You can't have too many pairs of socks " Turns out you can.
I've put some away, and have a core of about ten that'll be in conatant use. I'm hoping to wear them out . My socks never wear out because I've got too many of them.
I've had the book on my kindle for awhile but I've just bought the paperback to give to my sister .Her house is stuffed to the gills. I don't care how she lives, but I know it makes her unhappy. I've held back as i thought she might be insulted to receive a book on tidying up , but it came up in conversation and I asked her if she'd like it .0 -

well the discard of tops is pretty much done (suspect it may get pruned more as I put alway) 2 very stuffed black bin liners for the charity and a few nice things for ebay
now to deciding what goes where. I have been a bit haphazard with some tee shirts hung and some folded some work tops in one cupboard and some in another so I am now sadly planning my wardrobes/tee shirt draw.
Think I need to do a load of washing and ironing as well after discovering some of my lovely tops screwed up and not fit for wear
and that was just the tops :eek:0 -
Tried the duvet method this weekend and it works a treat

I recently Kondoed my feather and down duvet and bought a lovely king size wool one, they are supposed to be the best type against allergies and dust mites and for regulating body temperature. It was expensive, but I am totally in love, no more cold feet/or feet too hot if resorted to wearing socks and no waking gasping for air from being too hot (I sleep completely buried under my bedding with only the top of my head showing (or so I am told)
I saw versions of the burroitoing duvets a couple of weeks ago, but I have my method off to a fine art and have no trouble doing a KS on my own, so have not tried it yet.
Love the antiques/collecting discussion, I am in my 60's and I don't think that I have ever bought a single item on the basis that it might be worth more in time, I will never be rich, but will not be bitter and disillusioned either:DThe best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. I'm disappointed in my socks. Post-kondo they should be all happy and relaxed so why do they still insist on tormenting me by refusing to come out of the washing machine in pairs? I really thought with less socks and everything tidier the lost sock shelf wouldnt be needed anymore.

This is one of the essential conundrums of Life. Could it be that your socks are experiencing marital disatisfaction with their alloted partners? After all, they came off a production line and were assigned into pairs with no consideration of their feelings.
For all we may know, many socks may have been romantically inclined to mate for life with the sock one up or one down the line, and are constantly struggling to escape their sockly bonding to an unwanted partner and find The One again.
Some people safety pin them together, but I wouldn't risk having the pin escape and trash the washer. Some others put all socks into a laundry bag and throw the bag into the washer, thus preventing all escapees.
Others develop a robust attitude and always wear odd socks, you can make it part of your essential image, and never need have an Odd Sock Shelf ever again.
I presently have enough socks to fill, when rolled up, two boxes each about 3/4 the length of a shoe box. And I do mean fill, as in jammed in. My socks are mainly cast-off from Mum when she hiffed out a load of unworn socks because of developing a need to those with special loose cuffs so as not to cut into her legs. These were the ones which did.
I am going to use then and then lose them to textile recycling and then carefully choose some joyous ones. I will be thanking and putting into textile recycling one pair which have been favourites, and mended, and are now past mending, once they come through the wash in a few days.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oi! Will you stop looking over the interwebs into my flat! Yes, there are extra coat hangers, and now I know why..........:rotfl:
Mum's pet washing machine mechanic tells us that washers do eat socks, it isn't an urban myth, they can end up around the back of the drum.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
