The KonMarie method

Guess who won the WI raffle yesterday:). I will keep the body wash as that is useful and will get used but will donate the body puff thing with a wicker heart attached to it to the CS. Even if I wasn't decluttering and kondoing it is a pretty ugly thing and why would you want a body puff with a wicker heart attached to it?

Tooties : it sounds like yesterday's Kondoing was very emotional for you - well done on working through it. If you feel you need to you could always take a photo of the box before it goes on it's way. I did that with some old greetings cards that I felt similarly emotional about parting with. I might delete them at some point but it made it easier for me to let go. There's definitely a release in this process. By the way I vividly remember playing with my "Nan's" button tin - a really happy memory.Shifting my energy for 20200

I've put dozens more books in the 'to go' pile. When DH came home I could see he visibly flinched and went pale at the sight of them. Most of them are books we inherited from his dad, and none of us are interested, so I don't want them around. To his credit he has had a look at them and said they can all go.
.
As a young child i was always getting out my grannies sewing box and playing with buttons etc, Granny more or less raised us as mum left when i was 10, so i had a strong bond with her, granny died when i was 19 (now 44) i inherited her sewing box.
This box has been stored usually in the attic, never used and mostly forgotten about. Today i discarded the contents except her mushroom darner???. I did have to hold every item (which is just tat) before i could let it go. This has been my most difficult item to kondo yet.
These posts really stood out to me. I haven't read the book yet (library waiting list!) but i know it speaks of the process of dealing with possessions as dealing with the past, with memories, with loss.
yesterday I managed to go through 5 shelves of books. A few were my dad's - there's one I know I should kondo but don't feel ready yet. He died in May so it's still quite raw for me.weaving through the chaos...0 -
I am going away for the weekend - first 'grown up' time away for 12 years and then a week at home :j DD2 is off tonight for 10 days with school and OH will either be at work everyday next week or indeed working away so I plan a Kono Fest
This half term has always been my week for a house spring clean but I am going to declutter at same time - i the past I have done the deep clean but have always been clever enough to store and stash away stuff 'to sort another day cos I am concentrating on cleaning' :rotfl: So off to pack a weekend case ( may kono at the same time!) and will be back with gusto after the break

Bit soon yet Honey. Pick a time that suits you.
One box of photos down, there were a couple of me & Ex husband which I kept as it is a place I probably will not go back to. Inspired by Jinny, I cut his head off before discarding . Very satisfying.0 -
DD took the seat I had re covered home and it fits perfectly so I now have the other five to do. She was so pleased with it she posted the photos with a before and after picture of the chair painted white and with a minty cream brocade type fabric on the seat.
Her older sister saw it and could not believe I had done it as it looked so good (think that is a compliment).
Managed to find a dressy jacket yesterday in the sale that was under a third of the price and is a creamy oyster colour that will go with almost anything. Perfect for DDs graduation and for our blessing in April. Will look for a dress nearer the time and might try to make my own fascinator if I feel ambitous.
DD has started to sort out COD and was delighted to be able to use the drawer divers for undies etc. She found out she had more stuff than she realised and was able to discard things and have others in categories to find easily. A sort of subliminal Kondoing"This site is addictive!"

Thanks Jinny, I needed to hear that. I don't want to get rid of something of Dad's and regret it. He wasn't an easy man but books were something we both loved and could share.weaving through the chaos...0

As a young child i was always getting out my grannies sewing box and playing with buttons etc,
As children we played with my mum's button box - it kept us occupied for hoursShe gave it to me a few years ago, but I'm always reluctant to actually use any of them
They were all in an old Mackintosh's sweets tin (shows how old it was as it was before they merged with Rowntrees ) but when I added my own in the tin was too small, so they're now in a pretty, quite large, sewing basket. I don't want to get rid of them. My mum still does sewing and crafts, and asked me recently if I still had the buttons as she needed some mother of pearl ones from it, so luckily I could give them to her. It's something I'm not going to get rid of.
Am i being silly in thinking i can almost feel my house breathing now??
I feel the same, but I think it's more me that's feeling less oppressed by the 'stuff' that we have (mainly the books) and I'm projecting that on to the house. Next week the decorator is coming to do the lounge, dining room and hall, stairs and landing, so once all that's done I can finally arrange the rooms how I want them. I've condensed the books down so much that there's a small pine bookcase which is going to be used for the dvds (at the moment they're all piled up on the floor by the tv).
Amongst the books which I've kept is a copy of Longfellow's poems which my gran gave me years ago. She won it as a child for reciting some poems. The thing is I've never read it and never will as I really don't like poetry. Please someone, give me a kick and tell me to get rid of it.0
