Week+ holidays.. We don't get it.

It depends where you go. I couldn't do a 2 week beach holiday because I'd get bored, but if you go places with lots to see or if you travel around the country you need longer than a week.
We did 10 days in Sri Lanka and it wasn't long enough to see everything because of the travel time between the places.0 -
I don't enjoy beach or resort holidays, but don't get bored anywhere else. I like to try and experience life as a local so love to just have some days just pottering around or just getting on public transport to see where it goes. I had 3 weeks in New York once and spent half the time doing touristy stuff and half just pottering around markets or chatting to people in cafes. Even when I have found myself stuck in some awful little places I can usually find something to do. I am not someone who gets bored easily though.0

You got bored in San Francisco??
Worse than that though, you get bored when you are with your family?
I've done every conceivable type of holiday. Although my preference is for an activity or cultural based trip, I've done a fair few beach/pool holidays when friends have invited me. Even though it's not my 'thing' I've always had a great time because I enjoy the conpany of the people I'm with.
Only boring people get bored...0 -
If I could go to Orlando twice a year, I would!
Sadly, finances do not allow for it, but we're going again later this year. :j 2 weeks isn't enough for all we want to do there and even though we plan in a few pool days to take advantage of the hotel and give ourselves a break, we get such massive FOMO that we end up going somewhere in the afternoon! Who needs rest days, anyway?!
We've done a couple of all-inclusive beach holidays (pre-baby!) and used them for pure relaxation. Days spent lazing around reading, loads of time swimming, lots of walks up and down the beach, the odd trip out to see the sights. Just what we needed! My DH has a very manual job and plays rugby every weekend so appreciates the time to rest and recover!
We get bored on city breaks and would only last a couple of days, but it's each to their own, isn't it? What one person deems as hell, the other person says is heaven! It's a good job there's so much choice to please us all!I think what we don't like about going to cities is that there's so much to do, we don't know where to start and end up wandering aimlessly and never end up going to good places so get bored and fed up! Just our bad luck (and poor planning!) really, but we prefer having longer to get used to somewhere smaller and feel like we're doing it 'well'.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

I was a bit like that in New York, there was just so much to do we got overwhelmed (not helped by only having a few days there). Ended up falling out with my mate at the bottom of the Empire State Building as we couldn't decide where to eat dinner... then realising how silly that was and having a laughing fit :rotfl:.0 -
OP - you're missing the point. There's no need to DO anything on holiday. You could go to the beach or stay by the pool every single day. Its a holiday. Thats the point.
I don't understand some peoples need to be constantly doing something all.the.time just for the sake of it. Try chilling out and relaxing.0 -
You pick somewhere that has activities you like. It's not about ticking off a hit list of things you think tourists do.
^^ This.
My mum likes nothing more than laying on a beach and reading for two weeks. I couldn't do more than a few hours of it!
Personally, we go walking in the Lake District and Scotland. We went to the Lakes for two weeks in the summer and are going again this summer. Every day we're climbing different hills - we're trying to tick off all 214 summits that Wainwright wrote about. It'll take us several more trips to finish them!
When we get back from our treks each day we'll chill out with DVDs and board games as we always have self-catering cottages to make a home away from home.
Best thing about our holidays is apart from accommodation and fuel we don't spend anything. Walking is free (apart from the odd time when there's no choice but to spend £8 on a day's parking in a National Trust car park).
But doing that much exercise on holiday is most peoples' idea of hell.0 -
Holidays are about doing what you want to do. NOT what a tour operator offers in a brochure.
So, what do you want to do? Where do you want to see?.....0 -
Ive done different kinds of holidays, city breaks, youth hostelling, as a kid my family didn't do beach holidays, I went to Switzerland a couple of times, Russia, Denmark. Each to their own, ive been away a few times over the last couple of years and I've gone all inclusive every time, but that doesn't mean you can't go anywhere apart from the resort you are in. After a week I'm ready to come home but even if I did just sit on my bum sunbathing all week, no big deal, people dont need to be doing or sightseeing all the time to enjoy themselves, I've done sightseeing holidays, I've done ones where its been less so. I've done years where I've not been anywhere on holiday.
If your family really don't like being away from home for too long then weekends away and day trips would make sense, why carry on spending money on holidays you clearly aren't enjoying.0 -
A week is great if theres lots to do but otherwise 5 days is good enough for me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
