but we just don't get it... can you help us understand, what do you do over a whole week+ ?

We go away for up to a month at a time and manage not to get bored. I couldn't tell you why but we don't have to work at it, there's always something to see or do.

I think some people just have a natural tendency towards boredom.

Im a Vegas person but 3 days would not be enough for me.

I recently spent 2 weeks there and didn't want to come home.

Spent the days wandering round the hotels.

    Had lots of lovely meals.

    Saw 13 shows.

Did a bit of gambling and an awful lot of walking.

Id be bored senseless on a beach/pool holiday.

Everyone tastes are different but if you are ready for home after 3 days then I think you are choosing the wrong sort of holidays.

Your post made me smile. I am one of those people who cant sit still for 5 minutes and has to be constantly doing something. Being busy keeps me happy and a walking holiday in the Lake District would be my idea of heaven.

My husband would love to just go on holiday and sit. He can get up late, read a book, mooch around looking at a few sights, watch the world go by, read a book, and sleep.

Dont know how but we have made it work for 20 odd years of holidays -probably with lots of compromises!

But when our kids were little we definitely organised our holidays around them on the basis that if they were happy and entertained then we could chill out. We did lots of holiday parks which you would never do without kids but we had some fun times.

Now the kids are teenagers and its getting hard trying to please everyone.

I am interested to know what responses you get!

This is exactly what we are like, managed to compromise so far.

  • We stay in this country and tend to go to places where we can go somewhere for the day. My kids like museums, so this is sometimes the focus of the holiday (although somewhere with a decent crazy golf course is great too!).

A couple of years ago, we went to the Ashbury Hotel in Devon. This, and it's sister hotel, offer a wide range of activities. They also have numerous crafts (something else that my kids enjoy). We couldn't afford a holiday last year, but they have asked if we can go back this year. You can stay for shorter periods, but you probably won't have enough time to do everything hat you want to do. While we were there, we did archery, swimming, ten pin bowling, pottery making and painting, silk painting, relaxation class, woodwork, jewellery making, patchwork class, mini golf, porcelain transfers, glass etching, and good ness knows what else. I've lost count of everything we did. Everything was free apart from the actual materials used, but they weren't expensive. I also paid extra for a massage. Prices include full board accommodation, and although the rooms aren't all brilliant, you spend so little time in there it doesn't matter. We stayed in a room suitable for disabled people (my son is disabled), and it was fine. My daughter and her partner stayed in a room a bit further along the corridor, and although it was adequate, it was small and needed a lick of paint. Everywhere was clean though, and the food was plentiful and delicious (and I'm fussy!).

It was definitely our best holiday, there was so much to do. Most times, we have been like the OP, finding that a week is too long and we just want to go home. On this holiday, though, we started with the activities more or less as soon as we arrived, and carried on with them after booking out (you can use the facilities all day on arrival and departure days, regardless of booking in/out times).

It worked out about £50 a head per night (more than that for adults, but generous discounts for kids, so I just worked out an average cost per person, out of interest). Well worth it!

My kids are grown up so I holiday on my own now.

For two weeks I mostly sit around the pool, reading, drinking and eating. I might go shopping but that's about it.

    Pure bliss!

Sorry, but although I enjoy reading (and take my kindle on holiday), this would be my idea of hell.

I have to be honest OP we're the same. It's a standing joke in our family that we always come back from holiday at least a day early because we get bored with it.

We have been known to leg it in the middle of the night (we always pay our bill though) as we can't bear being away. We have now decided to stop going on holiday because we are happier at home! Now't as queer as folk.

And mine - I'd be so grumpy I'd be wanting to kill someone. I need to do and see things to physically relax. But each to their own.
