TVL is a weird situation. But regardless of this, ALL of those situations you mention are not in any way related to a civil debt.0

Just as I thought.
So, in all of these situations. the police are helping bailiffs carry out the court's instructions, where is the beef?
People who fail to pay their rent, do not pay council tax, and do not have an MOT or insurance for their cars deserve to have them seized. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
If I was one of those drivers being stopped by that blonde bint and her husband in Parking Mad, I would have just driven off.
Not like I have any parking tickets.0 -
" The "beef " is, its not the Police job to act as debt collectors fro private companies!
They are not acting as private companies, they are acting as Officers of the Court. In any case, a fine is not a debt. When people are fined for shop lifting the shop does not get the fine, it goes into the General Fund.
The people who do not pay Council Tax are not stealing from a private company, but from all law abiding Council Tax payers.
I can see nothing wrong with this, the NoTo mob are misguided. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

But not, apparently, in the eyes of Plod!Having taken into account the legal position, stakeholder input, trust and confidence in the police and frontline policing practices, the Met will no longer undertake roadside operations with bailiffs. We trust this brings the matter to a conclusion for all involved.”Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

That's what Plod thought - but Plod were wrong. Just as they were wrong when they used to assist ultimately 'crim' clampers just because they had an SIA licence. They are not acting as private companies, they are acting as Officers of the Court.
Just because a bailiff is chasing a 'debt' doesn't mean he is acting for any Court. Council tickets in London are decriminalised civil matters and the Police were completely in the wrong to assist the bint and her OH from 'Whyte & Co'.
You think it is OK for the Police to be 'on hire' (unpaid) to riff-raff like Whyte & co? I presume you didn't see the husband & wife bailiff 'team' in question, DP!
Also see how the MET Police wriggled and first of all tried an 'inaccurate' reply to an FOI request:
https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/re_parking_wars_tv_programme
Read what the reply was as the excuse for pulling the cars over. If you watched the show you will know it is untrue. Well done all involved in not letting this lie.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

But I am not talking about Council Parking fines, I am talking about Council Tax. Also unpaid fines handed down by Magistrates Courts.
No CM, I did not see the programme. Programmes about riff raff who trash other peoples' houses, fail to pay their rent, and generally slosh around at the bottom of the pit are not my idea of entertainment. I prefer to watch Downton Abbey. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Actually non-payers of Council Tax are not stealing from anyone.
Theft is a specific criminal offence, requiring you to dishonestly deprive another of HIS property. Your money is YOUR property until you pay it out to the council in respect of a properly served demand.
It is for the council to prove the rate was lawfully set, the demand was properly made and you have not paid same. You need not prove the contrary.
When I lived in London in the 1990's, I received defective Council Tax Demands every single year. And about 2 months later, in court, I'd get the council slapped down, costs paid and walk away for another year. In the end the Council saw sense and offered me a job in the Council Tax section - which I declined because I was moving house.0
