Just out of interest, if after being pulled over by the police, what would happen if the driver just told the bailiff/police office that this is a civil matter, wound the window up and drove off?

Nothing. If you driver has completed the police enquiries then he is free to leave. It was a case of the bailiffs implying some authority by the presence of the police and the sheeple not understanding their rights.

I do not see why this was such a big deal. Most of the people involved in such incidents are riff raff anyway. TV licence dodgers, Council Tax evaders, parking fine bilkers, workshy and !!!!less men who do not support their children, and, by far the worst, scum who cheat hard working landlords.

We all know that TD has a very low regard for the rest of mankind. He is on a superior plain compared to the rest of us.

The forum's very own master baiter! :)
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

  • seem to remember from the show, that someone did actually point out to the police that they had no business involving themselves in a civil matter, the police, (rightly), allowed the motorist to go on his way. Why on earth were they there in the first place, and who sanctioned it ?

But is it a civil matter if you do not have a TV licence? Is it a civil matter if you do not pay a speeding fine, or are fined for shoplifting?
