Hi all
I've just worked out that I pay £47 a month for unlimited calls and line rental with by and broadband with aol! Ive been looking online and I can get much better deals but I just don't know who to go with?
I did a speed test and my results were 4.2mps and I'm 3.3km from the exchange. As of yet fibre is not available in my area
When I did a by wholesale thing it said adsl or fixed rate connection and I haven't got a clue of the difference between the both of them
There are 3 of us who use the net at same and and use it for browsing, streaming videos etc
What people do you recommend as I don't want something that is really really slow
Thanks very much

I'm guessing you mean the BT Wholesale broadband checker.
The lines you want to see are WBC ADSL2+ (the up-to 24 Mbps product).
If that is not there, then ADSL Max (the up-to 8 Mbps product).
If WBC ADSL2+ is not present, check if TalkTalk or Sky have 'unbundled' your exchange, as that will offer 'up to' 24 Mbps broadband.0 -
My adsl max is says upto 1.5 and the fixed is 0.5
Do different providers do it differently?
How did I get 4.2mbs if I can only get upto 1.5? I really don't get it lol
How do I check if they have done that?:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T0 -
For the adsl max the downstream range is 0.75-3.5 if that means anything?
Also checked something else and its says that aol, talktalk and sky offer LLU which has thrown me even more!:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T0 -
The estimates on BT Wholesale are usually quite conservative.
Getting over 4 Mbps on a line over 3 Kilometres is quite good.
Thing is, no matter which internet provider you end up going with, the copper cable that runs from your home to the exchange is the same. Your speeds will be similar amongst all providers.0 -
Thanks very much foe the replies, I was only wondering that if I changed suppliers to say plusnet that they may provide broadband differently and my speed be reduced. If that's not the case then I'm gonna change today as o will save quite a bit per month:TIf your happy and you know it clap your hands :T0

Stop! You may need to stick with LLU or your speeds may drop.
Perhaps with SKY, who can be cheap if you take their calls package too. Though I stick with BT and take their Line Saver, paying line rental in advance and pay perhaps £5 per month for Sky Broadband.0 -
Take another look here to see what may be available.
Using SKY as an example(not necessarily a recommendation); Current offer from Sky is Sky Broadband Unlimited £0 for 12 months. But you have to switch to their line rental to get it. That is £16.40 per month. Add £5 per month to that for Talk Unlimited and your monthly bill for the first year is £21.40. They also offer a £50 M&S voucher if you apply online with Quidco also offering £65 in Cashback.
Second year brings an additional cost of £7.50 per month for the Broadband. You can of course negotiate, but once they have you on the hook as you have switched to their lines, they may be less willing to negotiate.0 -

PlusNet use BT Wholesale so the equipment in the exchange is the same as what BT use.
There should be no reduction in speed.0 -

I have read the post properly.
I replied to the OP's question directly and did not provide any misleading information.
Where do you think I misled?0
