Part e/xing an old banger with faults

Well, I've just done a direct.gov free check on the new car and it would appear that it has not been taxed since 27 Oct 2014 which would imply that it has been on the dealer's forecourt since then. The price has already been lowered by £200 before we looked at it so I'm thinking that the dealer is looking to move it on pretty soon. So as a previous poster has said, they would probably be prepared to discount even without the p/ex. I'll see how it goes tomorrow, but won't lie - just won't volunteer any information unless asked.LBM 7th Jan 2014

All 307's are lemons! Being honest with the dealer would be a nice change for us as well, some people are sneaky!
(I'm not the OP's dealer)0 -
My principle is that if I am selling to a private individual I will tell them of every fault I know about (and even give them a run down of the likely life left in tyres, brakes etc). I will put all these in writing in the advert as well, so there is no misunderstanding. If this means I lose a few hundred on the sale, so be it. I prefer to have a clear conscience.
However, if selling to a dealer, I certainly won't lie to them, but I don't feel it's necessary to tell them of every little fault. They are supposedly the experts, and will make any checks that they deem necessary. Also, they have the facilities to put things right, which the private buyer does not.
IMO, if the dealer has had a fair chance to inspect the car and offer you a price based on that, that's all that needs to happen. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -

I'm getting worried now. Got the same car myself, bought it at 4 years old with 40K on the clock, it's now got 136K, gives me 56 to the gallon ( and I don't hang around ! ), no bills so far other than consumables ( most of which I do myself ). Timing belt is due at 144K, gonna get that done soon ( sooner rather than later ).
Much as I have misgivings about French cars generally - I have to bite my lip and say I can't fault this one for practicality and economy. It's not flash, it's not cool, but commuting 600+ miles per week ( and overtaking Nissan GTR's ha ha ! ), it does me.0 -

I do hope you write to the manufacturer and complain that they failed to sell you the lemon you expected.
I have a diesel Mondeo and everyone says dont buy a diesel they are trouble. Well 5 years on its not required anything a petrol car may not have needed.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi, I wouldn't worry. I remember once my mother spent an age cleaning a part exchange and the salesman didn't even look at it. Another time my ex part exchanged an aged Citroen C5 estate that had loads of stuff wrong with it and there was no comeback. Although, the car we bought was a Renault Grande Scenic which needed a new engine within 2 years and the fly wheel then went. The replacement engine then failed after 18 mths. Spent thousands on that car. So perhaps that was our karma.I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0

To look at it another way..
The car has had a new clutch and flywheel, DPF has been replaced and all the niggly little bits have been looked after. All at not so insignificant expense so any future buyer would be buying a car with most major components sorted out already.
Only slight issue is the blowers don't work.0 -
