tried the jam this morning now that I have bread for toast and although it is a little runny, it's good to taste the sun again :) :T

That's better than the batch I made from berries out of the freezer. I made a mixed fruit jam, and it's so solid it's difficult to get out of the jars - and there are half a dozen of them to get through :rotfl:

We could easily live off what we've got in the pantry and freezer for a few months. My problem is that I don't like seeing the stocks reduce :o so I don't think I could do a challenge like this. I'd probably go into panic mode if I felt I was using up too much.

Remove some jam from the top of the jar then gently heat the remaining jam (still in jar) in your microwave and when it starts to flow a bit better, add a little sterile water or fruit juice to the jar and mix it well then allow to cool.

I will start to build up my cupboard stock again after about a month and my freezer stock again once it gets down to about a weeks worth of food left in it, my cupboards wont be completely bare. :)

I don't have a microwave, but I could warm it up gently in a pan I suppose. I think I'll give it a go for the next jar I open.
  • I do this if the honey at the bottom of the jar has set or become a bit crusty/sugary just a quick blast in the m'wave and its runny again.I use a dollop of honey instead of sugar when stewing apples with a dash of cinnamon gives a lovely spicy sugar taste
