I have just picked 5 plump red radishes from the garden, really pleased!! Not had the best luck with home grown these last few years, so to see the little radishes popping through the soil is lovely.

Looking forward to a few days off at the end of the week
Time to finally cut down last year's broccoli (yup - was a surprise to me too that they got this big) - it was rarely purple, sprouted maybe twice, but the massive leaves are absolutely gorgeous. I've some Metro Rouge Beans that are doing very poorly, only three of them left, so i'll have to sow a few more. Also sowed some dried peas (like you get in the supermarket) - I heard it works, so i siphoned off a dozen and sowed them in a tray. Being from Sheffield I should be using Batchelor's, but I always prefer Leo's for some reason... ...Still few slugs - they've yet to show their hand

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

Solar tunnel up and finished yesterday. Two long beds and a path down the middle. We stayed outside until nearly 9pm to finish it. No need to guess where I'll be later today

Highly envious Zafiro! I wish you every success with it and I am sure you will get much enjoyment and satisfaction from it.

Found out we have a mouse in the garden. None of my seeds were coming up, mainly cause they were eaten. It particularly had a taste for sweetcorn, so not much of that this year. Hopefully have enough to pollinate though.
Spending most of my time trying to keep on top of the weeds. I was trying tokeep grass paths, but I think I'll have to convert to woodchip if only for my own sanity!

I have just spent over 6 hours in the garden. So glad I wore a hat. Anyway, now I have weed the veg plot, I can see that I have lots of leeks, chard, fennel, cabbage, brocolli and turnips coming through - very exciting. DH helped me make a taller net frame to protect them, and I put some copper tape round the outside of the plot.

I've now moved the tomatoes from the greenhouse to the patio. And eaten some broad beans straight off the plant. About to pick a bowl of strawberries.

And thats about it - in 6 hours, flippin ek, this growing your own dinner is hard work.
Spend less now, work less later.

    New fertiliser? lol.

I weed pretty much all over the place too. Put out the 3 butternut squash plants that have been hardening off and getting pot bound, so fingers crossed. There are more in the greenhouse but they are huge by comparison so I may leave them in a bit longer. I had 5 tomato plants there was just not enough room for in the greenhouse, so I put them outside too. Sent MIL home with a bag of freshly picked chard. I think my new sowings of chard, spinach and beetroot have all migrated together.......could be interesting.

The infamous Goji berry plants are growing but not too rampant yet.
Must put the fruit cage on the loganberries/currants/gooseberries tomorrow as I'm going away for a few days and I'm sure they will be eaten. Strawberries not quite ready yet, need a few more days sun. French beans look a little shocked at being outside and having to face the slugs........plenty of frogs in the pond so I wish they would get munching.
Lettuce is coming up well, rocket a little slower but it's showing.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

    << What a Glorious Day >>

Had the day off, but popped some surplus peppers, tomatoes & courgettes down to my co-workers. On the way back bought some chicory (if it's a hardy perennial i'll try it !) Cleared out the broccoli and ended up with a mountain of broccoli leaves. I'll be planting Oca in here in the next few days (in the meantime cover with canes to indicate this is NOT a nice new luxury cat toilet). Discovered a surprise harvest of radishes - they usually turn out rubbish, but i've got half a dozen doozies. In other news the new (dug in March) pond is springing into life - had a sort of tabby frog poking around, a toad, some little red dragon flies and some sort of diving beetle. I love this time of year

I love it too, I saw my resident toad yesterday, not really sure how many I have but they/him are always hiding in the cool at the base of the garden wall. So good to see the good wildlife. My new neighbours at the side and the back have cats they live in my garden. I am SO fed up with it. One got a wetting from the hose and hasn't been back but the two others are here all the time. They spoil plants by lying on them and of course cat pooh is everywhere. Is there anything non-harming I can do?

What changeable weather! The gale fair ripped off the netting over my white strawberries like a hurricane had hit.

They are now at the mercy of the birds as it was a tangled mess and I didn't have time to sort it.
Picked a humongous club of rhubarb. Mmm... what shall I do with it? Loads more left on the plant.

Sunshine finally persuaded my bitesize peppers to show a couple of shoots. :)
