Morning all. Won't get out in the garden today but yesterday, I planted the broad beans out (apparently they should be ok even with the black spot which won't affect anything else). Indoors I potted up the tomato plants, but I put the lettuce out in the greenhouse as it was struggling indoors, too warm I think.

Peas still doing ok in GH and the kohl rabi (sp?) have germinated so both will be able to go out in a few weeks. Also did some more prep of my veg plot, flipping hard work.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • All my summer cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli and dahlia seedlings germinated. Neither the chilli pepper or verbena seedlings germinated though. Going to resow some chillis today, along with a few tomato and Brussels sprout seeds.

I'm getting my greenhouse delivered on Friday. I have no idea how to set up the ground for the base, so that's what I'll be researching this week.

(Also, I know it's not edible, but I've taken cuttings from dahlia tubers and so far they're all still alive in the propagator. Not had success with cuttings before, and never taken dahlia cuttings ever, so it'll be interesting to see how they progress...)

Sowed those Carrots in a raised bed, sowed Peppers in a propagator. Cut down the last Buxus in the garden, shredded it and got most of the root out - Since there's already a fairly large hole there, I'm now thinking pond...

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

  • morning, didn't get anything done outside, other than to sort out a bit of the garden shed so could get the tools and various bits and pieces we'd brought back from the lady's garden.

At the moment, the allotment is under snow!

Bought some garlic, shallots and potatoes, which I've put in a box for chitting.

Hoping to go through the seeds I brought back to see if any still usable and to plan what to grow for this year.

I agree re garden sharing. This lady's husband had been a keen gardener and since his death, she had hated seeing the plot go to waste, so whilst listening to a talk done by our allotment society, she offered it up. It has fabulous potential for the right people, as well as giving the lady some produce and company.

There is such a shortage of allotment plots ~ I know the hassle and years' of work our society has had to do to get more allotments/move forward with the council. If something can be done to ensure both sides' safety and interests, I think it should be something that is encouraged ~ might help support communities and neighbours to come together more

My sowings only happened today :o

But I've got tomatoes, carrots, brocolli, PSB, sprouts, radishes and strawberries in the propagators :j

I put my king edward spuds out to chit today too, add those to the rest of the potatoes doing, I might struggle for potato space :o :rotfl:

  • Hi everyone!

I'd like to pick your grow-your-own brains for a blog I'm writing. If you can help out on this thread that would be great.

    Thank you in advance!

  • I cleaned my greenhouse over the weekend, inside and out :) I also counted up, and I have (somewhat shamefully) 50 packets of veg seed and 11 packets of flower seed! I need a bigger greenhouse!
Next I need to wash out my propagators again, as my onions damped off, then I'm ready to start sowing in a week or so...
