Can I just ask why some of you number the stuff you are chucking?
I wondered that too, never thought of numbering but I've so much to dispose of it would be too daunting to list everything!
I took 5 half empty paint pots to the tip this morning. I also took 3 large, old, split plastic garden tubs and a bottle of old cooking oil which I've been adding to over the past few months.0 -
Thanks for the explanation of the numbering.
I might do that when I don't have as much stuff to let go.
I think it might stop my flow at the moment.
I never want my kids to have go through what my bro and I did when my dear Mam passed away 15 years ago
It's awful sorting through someone's stuff.
She had rent books, birthday cards ect from 20years previous.
Turkey tins, huge pans ect that hadn't been used in decades
Bless her, wouldnt let us throw anything away.

I know what you mean about that generation. My mum had a new kitchen fitted by the council. I had the job of going round & emptying her old kitchen. I only put back what she needed & all the other 'stuff' I put in boxes & put in her spare bedroom. Manages to bin/re-home somethings. Now need to sort through the rest of the boxes & convince her she doesn't need to keep pots & pans from decades ago

I've been decluttering on and off since 2009, and must have got rid of 100's of items.
When I joined MSE, I noticed that some people numbered the items they had decluttered, and as I'm quite goal orientated, I thought it'd be useful for me.
In 2013 I did 380, in 2014 I did only 170, and this year I'm aiming for 500. I don't want to spend the rest of my life decluttering, so I want to make this the last big year, and get it done once and all.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Sometimes counting does stop the flow, but the challenge of getting to the next "10" is very motivating! You need to do whatever works for you. Although I'll try to sell some books to the second hand bookshop, I take most things to the charity shop - once I've decided something can go I just want it out! I don't have the patience for ebay0 -

My sentiments exactly
Well done
I've just been in my tool box to look for a screwdriver
and found a half a carrier bag of curtain hooks that don't fit any rails I have now. Crazy
Love this thread and all the lovely people on it
It's so liberating freeing your life from too much stuff.
Sorted through some papers today
Need to get shredding tomorrow
I saw a hint on y tube to spray an a4
Piece of paper with wd40 then sred it to oil the shredder.
Will spray outside though as it will stink.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
