Gave my neighbour free rein to the black hole of Calcutta (3rd bedroom) last night, she's taken a large black sack full for an upcoming Marie Curie jumble sale. Still masses in there for the first car boot sale of the year, due in a few weeks time.

500-520. (approx!) packing box of general loft detritus/carboot items to charity shop.
520-530. Utility room gutted - massive lots of jam jars to recycling - they were all savoury ones and I tend to only jam not chutney, so branston pickle jars tend to have a lingering whiff to them:rotfl: Also lots of those little glass pudding dishes to the cs - I know people like them for tea light holders for weddings etc lots of laundry products binned that I don't like or use and have been keeping for years - finally acknowledged that while I might use them, in reality I will always choose something else over it. Gone now :j

I have had a lovely decluttering day today. It was a day off,and normally when I have a day off,I spend the beginning of it tidying the house (endless battle, there),THEN get on with trying to declutter.
Today I gave myself permission to just "potter" :I had a list of about 20 things to chose from doing, and I just did things as I felt like:

    - decluttered an A4 expanding folder. Not a busy folder_I had set it up last year for papers that I need "on hand": permission slips from school,receipts/payment cards from school, latest Tesco clubcard vouchers, etc. It didn't have alot in it,but I hadn't used it for a few months,so now have removed/recycled out of date stuff, and set it up again to use
-while I was at it I decluttered the kitchen drawer it lives in: lots of random stuff chucked out right there!
-went through a built-in wardrobe in the box room, where I have been storing all the stuff I am currently advertising for sale,so I am not searching around the house when someone calls to collect something
-I photographed and added more items to the wardobe. When I get a chance,I will list some more stuff to sell
-from the wardrobe I sorted through dressing-up outfits. Some to go to charity(will count when they leave the house),others transferred to girls' new bedroom.Anything Halloweeny I bagged up and put in the loft.

    Binned today:

    807:papers from folder
808:junk from kitchen drawer (mostly papers)

    From dressing up box:
    809: headband
810:broken something (can't read my writing!)
    811: plastick-y-flower-on-a-pencil-ly-looking-thing
    812: plastic glasses
    813:fairy wings
    814:zebra mask
    815: practical joke toy

    From loft:
816: musical teddy toy (kept for sentimentality but it had gone mouldy)
817: broken coffee cup, again put in loft because at the time it been a gift, but really WHY?A broken cup!

    Also binned:
818: sticker maker with no stickers, and looks like it is missing parts
819: novelty torch that doesn't work properly
    820: kid's magazine,recycled

Tonight I also finished daughter's passport application form/had photo counter-signed,which I have been putting off for about 3 weeks,so that will be posted tomorrow, and will be nice to have out of the way.

While all this was going on I also washed and hung 3 loads of washing, and folded and put away a couple of others:well, for a family of 6,just hanging up a couple of loads takes about 20-30 minutes-is it just me??

March is going to be my month for major decluttering!
As mentioned earlier the puter tower died of old age it had been struggling for the last few months. Took the hard drive out and someone I know and trust will attempt to move my photos and stuff I would like back from it. But I was really the only one in the house who used it and it was on a huge old buildings society desk taking up a corner of the lounge. There are a couple of laptops in the house and I waas given an iPad for Christmas so big decision made.
Yesterday the puter table was taken out and disassembled, all the stuff that was under it or in the drawers is now piled on the table and today's task is to go through it keeping only what is useful or has special memory attached. If it fits in the filing cabinet or the sideboard it can stay is the rule.
So far I have filled a plastic box with old cheque book stubs, broken calculators, note books and various bits of rubbish that were stuffed in the drawers rather than dealing with them at the time.
It will be a long but satisfying day I think.
