Plodding on! I have to say the bedroom is looking A LOT better. Still a way to go though ...

Dragged out all the jiffy bags, boxes, bits of bubblewrap etc that are lurking all over the house ( I refuse to buy them new when I'm only listing cheap stuff on the e of bay) and packed the good condition ones away into one of those big plastic crates. I chucked away....

    420. random bits of cardboard
    421. A big sheet of polythene (?) I can offer no explanation for this.
    422. Sme manky bubble wrap with hardly any functional bubbles. It was absolutely filthy, I can't think what it had originally been used for.

    Also binned / recycled

423 shower gel used up bottle recycled
424, 425, 426, 427 went through some craft bits. Turns out I had 4 lever arch files of magazine pull outs and the like. Even if I live to be 120 theres just not enough hours in the day to make a fraction of that stuff. Chucked out 3/4 of it, so a massive amount of paper and three ringbinders GONE

428 a file full of recipe clippings- gone! (only kept 4 or 5 )
429, 430 two broken cd cases binned
    431& 432 ancient catalogue & magazine recycled
433 pair of knickers binned. Elastic is broken. I think I've had these almost 20 years! Sure got my moneysworth...
434 Fancy ergonomic mousemat. A friend said something hilarious on facebook and I laughed so much that I knocked it off the desk and it broke into 4 pieces. Binned.

Jumble sale was today so I got rid of a few more bits to that:

    435 & 436 books
437 kids art briefcase thing with contents
438 bluetooth headset Ive never used.

Realised today I'm not too far off reaching 25% of my target! I'm very surprised at myself. Paper recycling box is groaning. Not sure I'll be able to lift it to the kerb !

Help! I've been reading along and slowly decluttering since the start of the thread, and normally reading inspires me to keep going. But currently I'm stuck. I'm sat surrounded by magazines / papers that I've sorted into piles but now have just stalled and can't bring myself to read them or even decide what to do about them. I read something someone else does with magazines a few pages back that I will do so will put those to one side to read in smaller chunks another time, but I have tons of articles I've previously pulled out of magazines etc, and other paperwork and just don't know where to start. Saying this sounds pathetic but I just feel I need some encouragement or I might just stick it all back in the cupboard. :(

Separate the entire magazines from ripped out bits.

If you haven't read them now and they aren't essential to your hobby/lifestyle/career, then give them away.

You haven't read them in all this time and you aren't motivated to read them now - give them away.

Some charities will take craft or hobby magazines and there are waiting rooms crying out for fresh reading material.

The 'bits' you've ripped out - Just pick up one at a time.

What motivated you to extract it?

    What does it relate to?

Can you put it in a pile of like articles i.e. similar topics?

Are they still in date? Has technology or knowledge outpaced the written word and left what you're holding too old to be of any use?

If that is the case, the put it in the recycling.

Just take it one bit at a time.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Aww,bless you saver-j.I get like that, epsecially with "bitsy" things like pieces of toys,or bits of paper/stuff to read later.
Do you have a folder/file or even a pretty box box to store stuff you have decided to keep to read one day.Maybe you could divide articles according to interests, then, say, for 15 minutes in the evening, pull out an article, read it,then put straight out for recycling?
I guess the other thing you could do,if it wasn't too much trouble (travel, etc),is to scan and download onto a memory stick, throw away the paper copy= freeing up space.
Today my decluttering is very "bitsy",so I feel your pain.We could cheer each other on hugs.gif.

    Thanks gingernutty and saverupper.

Just writing down how I was feeling about it helped me to tackle one section, several articles now in recycling trug, some items in a pile to go in memories file.

Will keep going and try to switch off the voice in my head saying but it might be useful/its interesting!

I have also had a very bitty day today.

Today was meant to be "THE DAY" that the 3rd bedroom was painted by OH.Last night (10pm!),I sugar-soaped the walls in preparation-took an hour for a tiny box room.

This morning OH did a few last minute bits of Polly-filling,the "canvas wardrobe" containing boxes of son's toys was emptied out-now it's contents are spewed all over the other two bedrooms :eek:Ditto the Trofast storage . Bookshelf was emptied and moved to second bedroom yesterday. So upstairs is,again.a tip.

After all that,father-in-law phoned and asked OH if he wants to come out car-shopping (to replace ours that caught fire about a month ago!)

Very kind of FIL,and we do need a new car,and we wouldn't be confident enough to buy it without FIL's guidance, but really, today??

SO here we are,5.30 pm,and no painting has been done.OH gone out again "quickly",but by the time he gets back, not sure anything will get done today.

Meanwhile,I have flitted from one project to another. With all bedrooms up-ended,I can't work in those-even if I wanted to declutter stuff to charity, there is nowhere to keep the stash until I get there next week 018.gif

So today I have decluttered a small-but-complicated bundle of papers from kitchen bench. And it sounds like I now have the same problem as saver-j:instead of having one messy bundle,I have 2-3 smaller, messy bundles-some for recycling (gone),some to file properly (later icon_rolleyes.gif),some "not sures"-AND WHERE TO PUT IT ALL??!!

Was about to start decluttering another bundle of papers, but OH came back from car viewing, and work ground to a halt.

Saver-upper still manages a 1/2 page post on a decluttering thread without actually having decluttered anything...................
