  • Keep us posted when you hear and I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed.

I've often wondered how "you" would handle rotten hay - at our yard the straw is damp and mouldy at the moment but we get told tough and to just use it. I do wonder if it was my own place, what I would do. It was only inbetween the slices that the damp had taken hold so you couldn't see from the outside.

I guess it's not cheap either, even if it's a better deal than you were originally getting.

Good luck and hopefully the next lot is better.

  • Fingers crossed he comes up with some better stuff for you. I'm having a similar issue at the moment, my supplier usually has the best hay for miles around, but I think he's had storage issues this year, as some of it's been quite dusty and the boys definitely haven't been as keen on it as in previous years. He got an absolutely bumper crop and I think it got packed so tightly into the barns that the air didn't get round it properly after it was baled. Off to pick up my third lot tomorrow, fingers crossed it's a bit better.

Hay man came today and delivered four bales, I didn't ask for two more only two to replace the bad two or my money back. So when I saw four news ones going down my headache suddenly got much worse, I can't stand complaining to individuals. I will happily complain to a company though. Anyway luckily at the same time the Rayburn man turned up to fix the Rayburn, perfect! That meant DH had to deal with the hay he he. Half hour later with me peeking out the window trying not to be noticed DH came up to the house and said the new stuff is great. I've had a look tonight and wow it really is lovely, green, sweet and dry, no dust or white manky stuff, relief! Only trouble is now that I have ordered a load of small bale hay from the old hay man which I don't flipping want now but I need him to do the muck heap, aarrgggghhhhhhhhhhh!
I found when I was on livery yards they give you rubbish, the mildew and mould is not acceptable but I know that they can have it much cheaper, so as far as they are concerned, as you say tough use it! We I had my livery yard, 8 years ago now, I only bought perfect haylage, hay and straw, I had a fab supplier and it cost me a packet. I also fed top named brands of feed and I don't suppose I made much profit, well enough to pay for my own horses hay, bedding, feed, farrier etc. but boy it was hard work, I only charged £50 full livery, pittance! Must have been mad. When I gave up that farm DH and I said never again would we do it, but if we did it wouldn't be for less than £90 a week. It's not just everyday of the week, it's 24/7 and that includes Christmas Day!
Anyway....the Rayburn...it is working, silently and was a pleasure to have my kettle simmering tonight, but bad news? He didn't know how much it would be and will send me an invoice..eekkk...he was here from 12.30 to 5pm and changed the pump and motor and oh dear I reckon it is well into the hundreds. On a good note I scrubbed it today and made the oven racks shine :)
Anyone else an eastenders fan?? I reckon it's down to, Denise, Cindy or Ian. But they all seem to have a part to play....lol ;)
Enchiladas for tea, yum yum yum!
DD worked the younger one today and oooohhh it was nice, then the bigger one but he wasn't really that active so just did a little bit of forward and left him. Still no sign of any of them being unwell and the bigger one is definitely better.

Hello miss pickle and welcome x
The hay delivery arrived from the old hay man :(. And boo hoo he can't manage to do the muck heap until next time! What next time! OMG! What a muddle. I now have around 65 bales of hay that the horses are thinking sokay when I need them to think yay that's lush. I'm going to have to mix the hay up,with the new hay and they will have to eat it. Even I am getting confused with this lol :).
All ok with DH and DS business at the moment, this week is now the busy week of the month if trends are going to follow.
My Rayburn is now fixed but did have to ring him yesterday morning as the ovens were filling with black fumes and stinking of kerosene. He came straight away and altered the mix or something, DH knows and understood, I just cook on it ;).
Work is going ok but I do think that this contract, although I wanted it to run for longer, is going to come to a natural end before any decisions are made but it was good whilst it lasted and there will always be another along - thinking positive there :).
More work yesterday also so pleased with that.
I confess that my usual happy face slipped a bit today, DH and I went out shopping, just to clarify "window" shopping, and for some reason I found myself in home bargains nearly in tears. I'd seen a lovely tv stand in oak and it was only £69.99. We've wanted one for ages because the one we have is black glass and although modern and perfectly functional not what we want at all :(. I tried to ration with myself that it was a want and not a need and to tell myself that I have been doing great with the budgets but it was no use, I felt totally miserable. Suddenly again it hit home that horrible dark feeling when I realise I'm 42 and paying of debts, so much so that I couldn't, wouldn't, even allow myself a small treat, smelly candle or something. I even had a flipping Gregg's pasty instead of a chargrilled roll because it was cheaper! stupid though we were meant to be treating ourselves to lunch out :(. I think I lost the plot completely and the small pleasures I can usually find in free things like a bit of sun, or a neat green field were gone, I truly felt awful :(. I spent ages telling myself to get over it and tried to look around the house and tell myself how lucky I am but it took a while and now I just feel a bit lost. I don't know what happened :(
Anyway smile back on now and kicked up the but I'm going to clean, clean, clean tomorrow and make what I do have look better :). I'm also going to cook, Cook, Cook :)

Sorry you had a bad day today - we all have them! It can sometimes be so tiring just working to pay of debt and never being able to have a little treat along the way - I was looking around my house today thinking how much either 'needs' doing or I 'want' to do and getting quite miserable - but then remembered how lucky I am to have a house I can afford and there will be an end to this debt repayment and how lovely it will be to do things to the house without worrying about where the money was coming from! Keep going - you are doing great!!! you will get there!!!

    Sending dodgy hugs:grouphug:
  • :hello: awwww thanks for the welcome.

You will have your TV stand one day. Is there any bdays coming up? Could the kids club together for an anniversary present? :j
I really wanted to buy it for you when I read about it :D but I'm skint too and not debt free :o I'm always bumping along on the bones of my bum :D

I think its that time of year. The back end of the winter when everyone has had enough. It gets waring.
Before you know it the sun will be shining and you will save heaps on the horses. So expensive over the winter.

Cooking and cleaning sounds like a good idea :) so glad your Rayburn is working :T
    Will catch up next week.
    Bye for now cwtchie

Was freezing in bed last night, woke up this morning to find that the Rayburn had switched it's self off overnight. DH reset it and revved it up, 5 mins later it cut out and blew all the electrics. We tried a few more time, just cooker, just heating etc. but no each time it re blew the electrics. Rung the Rayburn man he is coming out tomorrow morning to have a look :(
We have frozen today, no heating! Ok I'm a wooss but it's freezing! I've put my electric blanket on the bed lol :). I just hope the bill is not too big.

Kept all the horses in today, the weather has been appalling, torrential. I mucked them all out this morning and they didn't want to go out, they stood munching their hay once they eaten their breakfast, looking at me as if to say, no chance lol. The bigger one is lovely and toastie in his heavy weight stable rug and his heavyweight outdoor rug, he feels the cold so wears them both, the younger one wears a duvet, surcingle and heavyweight rug. The other three are much more normal and just wear their heavyweights :). Feed seems to be lasting a lot longer at the moment, DH is having to run out of the barn pretty quickly with the bigger one in tow due to the red cell but he's looking good! DH isn't too bad either lol ;)
Business was really busy today, DH and DS had to worked all day till around 4, they were soaked and DS has a cold and that's not good with no heating.
We met DD's unofficial boyfriend last night, first impressions, he's nice :)
I was under strict orders not to embarrass her, can't think what I might have done ;)
My mum, who lives next door has dried no end of washing for me today, her heating is fine she says and in fact she's roasting! Alright for some, but seriously thank you mum x
DH has physio tomorrow and has actually told me today that he feels so much looser and has much more freedom of movement. I am so pleased for him :)
Anyway have a lovely evening x

  • Ahhh hun ((((Cwtchie)))) for you. Good days and bad, as others said, we all have them. Like you I always try to find the positive and have a happy outlook on life but occasionally something like that happens. I do feel it sometimes too, but just think, one day the debt will be gone. We have exactly the same you know, a glass black tv stand which I hate. I've said when we're DF and move to our little farm, a wooden one will replace it :)

I'm looking forward to March now. It's almost here, fresh start.

Shame aboout to much hay but yes I would mix it too. Bigger shame about the Rayburn and I hope you get it fixed, it's cold to the bone out there these last couple of days. Are you able to have a hot meal still, microwave, alternate cooker, SC?

Ooh been a busy few days again!
Rayburn was fixed and then broke down again, we think it is what DH thought originally an electrical fault, so,engineer coming Monday to change the clocks, I don't want to think about the cost.
Lots of cwtches from my two doggies keeping me warm, they are so happy and loved, exactly as doggies should be :)
Me and DH are trying to have a night away either this weekend or next weekend, can't really afford it but I am not going to think about the cost other than to keep it to a bare minimum, we need a rest.
Have found the motivation and energy to help DD exercise the horses for the last two days, I don't ride but my job is to nag about position, she's pretty damn perfect (says her mum) but every so often they get a bit strong and she tends close her chest slightly. I'm not allowed to comment on the way they are going unless it's great ;)
The younger one was way too fresh yesterday and bucked good and proper when having a canter, fair dos to DD she just sat them and rode on. Then finished on a good note.
The bigger one was great so put a big smile on DD's face. She going to attempt her first medium shortly but he is doing advanced medium work at home, she just needs to feel that he is ready - he is :)
Haven't done much cooking or debt busting this week, the contract is still running but they messed up my wages so need to wait till next month now, that's a real pain! I am really tired though it is involving 2 hours driving 6 days a week. Anyway there is no decision still but I've given up and am expecting it to just stop any day. Been offered a regular smaller contract so chuffed with that and waiting to see how this weekend pans out to see if I can fit in two extra days work there :)
I'm hoping to have a lie in tomorrow the horses have plenty of hay. My horse ripped two rugs open tonight in quick succession! She literally ripped of the front straps on a hay net! I can't explain how she did it, but she did! She is now wearing last years rug which is laced up with baling twine over the bum, and the hay is on the floor again!
    Have a great evening x
