I went food shopping today with £44 and an aldee £5 off voucher and a list and a calculator! I spent £42.60 :T and it was a really big shop (for me!). Spent £5 on rice for my neighbour - it's a standing joke that she'll text me every so often to 'borrow' some rice, so now she has a 5 kilo bag of her own.

Also bought my mum some nice mint chocs as I hope to be able to visit her soon and it's her bday in Feb.

I food shop on a Weds but next week it's all taken up with Governor and parent stuff. So the shop will have to last an extra 2 days until I can go again.

Payday for me too, so for now I've Tilly Tidied to make a round number and will do the money shuffle on the 31st.

Today I am grateful for a lovely email from dh, for doing a very tough workout that left my legs and arms like jelly, for the sunshine this afternoon, for games with dd, for dd getting soooo excited each time she counts up the pot where we put our roadkill! :D

    Hi All
Blubella - thanks for your lovely long post about the dating. You sound a strong and capable person. I can't imagine what it must be like to raise a child alone so I have nothing but respect for those who do so. I bet you must be very close to your son. Sorry to hear about your work situation. As the weather warms up a bit at least outdoor dating options like visiting a new park or walks by the river become more appealing.

Synonymous - sorry to hear your news. Sending a big hug.

    Loveadove - exciting! Good luck...

    Today is NSD 15

    I am grateful today for
    1. Not getting soaked on the school run. It bucketed at several points today in between.
    2. Getting an eBay sale item sent off. Another item decluttered and a small amount made.
    3. A nice hot shepards pie for dinner made from a lot of leftovers and some fresh mince and potatoes. Made in minutes.

  • Good evening everyone!

Sorry to hear about everyone who is going through difficult times.

I am exhausted this evening. Been to work today and remembered to take breakfast and lunch with me. It's been a SFD. Used last nights left overs to make wraps this evening.

Tomorrow will be a spend day as I will do the weekly shop before my £5 off voucher expires. But, it will be coming from feb budget as that's when most of it will be used.

    Today I am grateful for
    A warm house
Feeling in control of my finances
    Family

    SFD today :) LTW but no exercise. Today I am grateful for;
1.) having kind and thoughtful friends and family
2.) having a likeminded OH (in some respects ;) )
    3.) feeling safe and secure

  • Hi guys

SFD!!! :D:T finally another one. 17 now!

Groceries... £231.78/£150 Oh... dear. In fairness, I did a 'basics' shop to stock up for Feb. I do think that I do better when I set unrealistically low targets though!

Stewby well done on the total sweetheart, keep going and don't get derailed. You can DO IT!

Apple I love your shop! And how sweet of you with the rice! :rotfl:

cupcake  Your landlord, BY LAW is not allowed to do that! He needs to give you 24 hours WRITTEN notice! What a complete joke. I think a polite but firm email is in order stating LAWS and facts. Cover yourself hun. You don't need and don't have to put up with that kind of situation no matter WHAT is going on. Is there a letting agent? Can you email them as well and put in a formal complaint?

Right.. today I am grateful for:

My MSE diary and amazing MSE friends - got me through a tough and unfortunate day
My mums joy at her surprise gift
Having a giant stash of great birthday cards so I can just fling one at random birthdays when I need to.

    Night all! xx

  • loveadove - that's great news, well done you!
syn - sorry to hear that, as everyone has said, you'll find someone twice as brilliant but I know it hurts in the meantime.

    Groceries 15th Jan - 15th Feb £53.20/ £106.30
    Fuel 15th January - 15th February £37.17/£57.17
    Spending money - 6.38/11.37
    Lunch to work: 17/19
    Lunchtime walks at work 19/19
    Food bank 0/£3
    SFDs: 10/18

Am very much looking forward to this week being over, found out I didn't get a job I applied for (longer story than that!) and am pretty much gutted, but hoping that eventually the right thing will come along. Feels quite hopeless at the moment though.....
Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

Speaking of Art - so sorry to hear you feel like that. I know it well and you have to ignore it and go with the evidence not the little voices that tell you it won't work out.

I found a quote on a blog this morning that resonated with the discussions about Jam on the Table & Spam Valley the other night. I quote " Always strive to be annonomously rich than deceptively poor. Over the long run you'll be better off for it."

On that note, good morning :)

  • SpeakingofArt - I am sorry about the job. And the longer story sounds painful. Something will come up that is perfect for you. You've worked so hard and you deserve to reap the rewards! Believe in yourself. We do.

Bobarella that quote is brilliant!!! :T Good morning ;)

How to get a SFD on a Thursday at work? Bring enough food for the week on Wednesday and drop it in the freezer/fridge. Leave your handbag at home, complete with emergency stash of cash and purse! And have dinner made before you leave the house ;) perfect!! SO today I declare 18 SFD's

WTW/LTW targets hit this week :D I actually surpassed the WTW as I didn't get a taxi when I thought I would have needed one.
Have a good days guys! xx

    Good morning.

Sorry to hear about the job speakingofart. Chin up, sth better will come along soon. See it as valuable interview experience.

Stewbe well done on the total.

Another SFD today. This must be the first month where I didn't give up and kept doing my spreadsheets despite blowing my budgets etc. till the end. Payday tomorrow, looking fwd to shuffling around money. Made a list of meals OH can choose from for the next 10 days with stuff from the freezer etc so I only need to do a we shop tomorrow or Sat for fruit mainly. Will make a strict list later.
Made £40 from ebay so far. Will set myself a little mini challenge and see if I can make 400 quid this year.

  • Today will be SFD 15. I need some stork for a cake but that goes on the business accout.

Landlord is breaking many laws, I've rented places for 11 years now so fairly clued up. I'm just adding it all up and I will be using it against him when I need to.
    There is no letting agent.

    Positives (didn't try yesterday)
    1. Dry January is so so close to an end
    2. Going to see my friend for coffee later
    3. Working on a cake design that I actually like

ETA. I'm really looking forward to starting a fresh challenge in February
