does not need to be a fake/hacked copy.

I have a Vista PC and i then purchased a Win 7 PC. i then decided to reinstall the vista PC and used the win 7 disc, this installed and worked fine, a few weeks down the line i got the 'not genuine copy' notice. the software was genuine but not licenced for that PC. MS wanted something daft for a genuine licence, but i just called the company i got my win 7 PC from and explained this and they sold me a licence for quarter what MS wanted

You have likely deleted the OEM activation information for Windows, it would show up as not genuine if you removed this even if the install is legit.

Tried the link but stopped working so went through the online chat and they have given me a new link.
I will report them tomorrow now

Sending you a PM. We'll take a look at what they have done.

    Though in fact, I know.

The file is; oem-drv64.sys: An OEM-SLP2.1 ACPI Patch Driver (HPD64) used in ODIN. ODIN is a hack designed to fool Windows into thinking that a machine has an installed licence.

Take a note of this too.

We'll check to see if the original Motherboard is in place.

Probably the difference in price between a RETAIL licence which allows you to transfer the windows installation to new computers if the old one 'packs up' and an OEM licence price which is only valid for and can only be used on the first and only installation and cannot be transferred.

if you have a disc for the OEM install then as long as you have the licence key then you can transfer to another PC if the original packs up.
Infact if you read the licence you can install it on more than one machine, but can only have it running on 1 machine at a time

Don't understand why you were surprised? If you've only got a Vista license (and don't want to pay for a Win7 license), then install Vista!

who says i was surprised, i knew this would happen once MS did their licence check, so i was prepared and got a licence as soon as it appeared.

A fair result....especially after their story of 'forgetting' to activate Windows. Cowboys...
