Hi my friends PC is showing up as "This copy of windows is not genuine"
it is a second hand Laptop from a computer shop and the warning has only appeared after I did a Norton scan which came up with a virus which began ""oem .... 64sys"" This was deleted
The shop has now said they forgot to active the windows, but I just tried and it said invalid key
Advice please and thank you

Ask the seller for a legit key.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

As above.
Seller put on a hacked version of Windows and hoped you(r friend) wouldn't notice.0 -
If you want to go one step further, report the shop to Microsoft. They used to offer a bounty for reporting businesses doing this.

I would guess the shop used some dodgy software to byass the Windows activation which the AV scan found and disabled which has now caused the non-genuine errors to occur.
I take it there isn't a Microsoft sticker on the laptop chassis with an activation key? If it's a pre Windows 8 laptop they're usually on the underside although sometimes it can be under the battery.

Because the scan deleted something that the hack depended on? So it now doesn't report as a legit, activated version of Windows.
As above, hacking the activation of Windows 7 is not difficult.0 -
