"Hogging the middle lane"

Disabled Rights For Me:My car has passed its MOT. My motability car is on lease and so is brand new every three years and so would not have a speedo problem.
If my speedo says it is 70mph then it is 70mph. I can't be held responsible if other peoples speedos are wrong, they should get a better MOTist.
Doesn't have to have a problem. Has to over-read by up to 10% to be 'legal' which is what yours conforms to. Same for the person behind you. It's perfectly possible for two people in roadworthy cars to think they're doing the same speed, when they're not.
What this discussion is about, however, is lane discipline, which has nothing to do with speed.
Disabled Rights For Me:So if they only under read then surely it would be if my speedometer says I am doing 70 then really I could be doing 65?
But the one next to me might say they are doing 65 so they might be doing 60 and certainly should NOT be taking over me.
Correct - your speedo says 70, but you could actually be doing 63, legally! And the other person's speedo might not over read at all, so his speedo will say 63 if he drove beside/behind you. Speedos are more accurate than this in reality in modern cars, but the theory holds.
Anyone can overtake YOU or ME any time they like. That's none of OUR business!
Disabled Rights For Me:What have I not answered?
I'd like you to confirm you've read and understood this post of mine from earlier, replying to you saying that you don't drive like a , well, you know...Nope, you hog the middle lane, which you've been told is a specific offence as of 2013. Please drive on the left. If people want to merge from the left, let them. If you find them distracting, tough. If you need to leave them some space, consider moving out for them if it is safe to do so.
If your car says you're doing 70, and someone overtakes you, their speedo might say 70 too.
If you really can't cope with the left hand lane of the motoway, I'm afraid you're not fit to drive. And the same applies if you insist on staying in the middle lane.
That was civil, not what you wanted to hear, but hopefully you'll think about it and change your driving.0 -
Wow obvious troll gets to 13 pages.
DRFM must be over the moon (in the middle lane of course)What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
Sounds to me as though the OP wants to be old (which at 72, they are not so old!) and likes to be disabled ( especially being the proud owner of the blue badge!)
I'm just watching a 96 year old, driver and business man,on TV. He is happy, busy, positive and optimistic. That person has my total respect.
Most things the OP writes shows them to be ignorant of the English language and ignorant of his fellow, able human beings rights.
Both young and old deserve respect, 'only' if they have earned it. Lots of people have problems both mentally and physically and do not wear it on their lapels. Some people do not apply for Blue Badges as they are too proud to have one. My Dad is 84, his lady friend is 88. She has a badge and he will not let her use it in his car. She is quite able to get about. Some people have pride.
If you really 'need' the benefits a Badge gives you, then get one. If you really need a mobility car, then get one. Just don't use the system just because you can.If we all had that attitude the country would be in an even worse state, than the one it is, in.
The OP needs to respect the law of the land and other people's rights.
How hard is it, to pull into the left hand lane? What disability would deem a person unable to pull over to the left? Have they got power steering?
I have been most entertained by this thread. There hasn't been much on telly.Keep on trucking!0 -
First fine for this offence according to the DM.
About time too. Fine them all,,though i do think the fine should be a fixed penalty,,say £50 not the excessive amount in this case. That is just unjustifiable overkill.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3133300/Motorist-person-convicted-hogging-middle-lane-g-etting-fined-1-000-driving-60mph-inside-lane-free.htmlFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Agree with above, the reporting though makes me laugh
"Police said six drivers had to brake and swerve to overtake the Berlingo"
If that was the case then 6 more drivers should have been hauled in front of the courts for their level of driving. A van hogging the middle lane doesn't just appear from no where causing evasive action.0 -

Normally it would be a £100 fine.
The driver appears to have ignored or disputed the fine so it went to court instead.
The driver then didn't attend court so judgement seems to have been found in his absenceAll your base are belong to us.0 -
The paper have probably added the £620 costs + £150 court fee to the fine and stated it as a fine....0

Apparently "the first court conviction for the offence".
Rubbish. The offence would have been careless/inconsiderate driving, for which thousands are convicted every year.
As said above, the driver was probably offered a fixed penalty but managed to turn it into £1,000 and five pints by his own ineptitude.0 -

One of them was probably this guy from the comments section :rotfl:Richard52, Plymouth, 10 minutes ago
Yeah, after driving into the back of a middle lane hogger who was doing 55 on a motorway and without lights on at 11 at night I really have little sympathy for this idiot. My car was written off as my reactions were not quick enough to miss him. Stupid old dodderer then claimed for whiplash injuries against my insurance and got it. Grrrrrrrrr.0
