They could if they wished and they will have evidence, so would win any court case.

They may well win a criminal case if the evidence is compelling enough, but that is not what OP is being threatened with. The debt collection company would launch a civil case, and as has been pointed out they would very likely lose that case as there are no proven losses to recover.

They wont be successful and therefore wont take you to court due tot he above court case, RLP thought they would win the case, they even iirc tried to keep the judgement quiet, the precedent is now set. Do NOT contact them at all in any way, just bin the letters

County court decisions are not binding. They can be used to back up a claim you are making, but they don't actually set a precedent.

However there is basis in law already - it comes under causation in tort law - specifically the "but for" test (ie if you remove the defendants actions.....would the claimant still have suffered the loss?).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Love the way you describe it as 'what happened to you'.

You really mean 'what you did to them'.

You're not the victim in all this, you're the low life scumbag perpetrator who thinks it's okay to steal from other people without consequence.

Personally I hope they pursue it and win, you deserve everything coming your way. Just a shame they didn't involve the law instead. Although I wonder if they could still report it to the police if you refuse to pay the costs.

    I know what I did was bad, I'm 16.
Obviously I learnt from my mistake
Edit: and as said, a court case is highly and very unlikely.

Your fine is getting lower and so is your age as this thread gets older.

    Quite a feat.

Although...I am impressed at a 16 year old 'obtaining' TWO bags of vegetables...
  • Arguably Science Apart's most reckless move in all of this was to post a thread in which he admits theft from a retailer, using the same account with which he posted a thread a month ago claiming that Argos had failed to deliver a £450 camera to him.

That Argos thread was a bit fishy in the first place - this thread just confirms my initial suspicions. It's inevitable you'll get caught and have the book thrown at you at one point. Quit while you're ahead.

Does a 16 year old have a card to buy online presuming that was how you bought the camera.
