I love that you can now use contactless on (most) TfL services. I use my TSB card, so get 5% cashback on each transaction, too. It's not much, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! Never had an issue.

Late at night, I'd rather get my Oyster card out than my bank card!

Most people who use the Tfl network with any type of regularity have an Oyster wallet (they used to give these out free when you bought a monthly or longer season pass at the ticket booths, not sure now) or travelpass holder/similar to hold their card in. So there is no need to be taking your wallet/purse out.

To the OP - I've been using contactless cards instead of Oyster since it started back in 2014 (and going back to 2012 on the buses) and haven't encountered a problem, this is daily use and across multiple platforms (tram, bus and tube). Actually, the only hitch I have had recently has been with using Apple Pay on the tubes, sometimes it has been hit and miss.

One difference is that if you forget or are unable to tap in or out, with an oyster the staff at any tube station can correct it by putting money back on the card, with a bank card staff can do nothing. There are also occasions when the card works fine for ages and then suddenly gets refused at the gate so then you need a back up plan.
