Oh dear. My digestion problems seem not to be meat specific. A few too many broth portions yesterday (pearl barley) have, I suspect, brought on the most awful cramps.

But still I have to go on with my jobs, although my kiddlers have helped (and hindered!) me today. It's easing now thankfully.

We have made shortcrust pastry, shared it between a cheese and onion quiche for supper/lunches tomorrow and some lemon curd tarts which I have dabbled with a meringue topping. The egg yolks went in with the quiche topping.

Annoyingly the temperatures wouldn't allow for the toad in the hole to be cooked for tonight so the oven will have to go on again. Grumble grumble.

I have not picked up my crochet blanket for a while so going to snuggle down with that later, now that I have done the jobs. Resting easy for now and looking forward to a chilled out evening to come :)
  • SpiderMy mum would dearly love a hedgehog in her garden!

FuddleSorry to hear of the digestion issues. I hope you're able to find the culprit soon and get some relief.

VhallaWow! What an accomplishment. You've been working on it for awhile now, haven't you? Would love to see pics when they're available.

Bit of a mixed day today. Doctor's appointment early afternoon and then a bit of a CS wander right after as the 99p CS is next door to the surgery and a quick stop in £streeeeeetcher. After spending far too long trying to arrange transport etc for a conference a couple of weeks from now, it turns out I need to be at the surgery for some follow up and won't be able to make it. I've wracked my brain and just can't figure out how so will have to pull out. I feel very badly about pulling out, but it can't be helped. At least I hadn't booked anything and paid the money yet.

Gym this afternoon and then OH made tea--omelettes, salad and a few cheeky oven chips. It was very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed and used up all bits we didn't need to buy at the last shop.

Bit of clothes mending tonight in front of the telly. I have a dress that is too snug at the top. It was taken in a bit too much about a year ago and I'm just now getting around to fixing it. It is a nice wool H0bbs dress found in a CS for very little so worth the effort.

'Working on it a while' is a nice way of putting it, FairyPrincess. Several years in fact, but it's only since I've been on this thread ie this year, that I've really got stuck into it.

My DDil has put photos onto my timeline on my Facebook page (about the only thing on there as I'm a technophobe) so although it isn't stretched yet, and is still wonky and the edges aren't turned in, if you're interested it can be viewed under Vivien Hallberg on Facebook.

Ember - there are lots of tutorials on knitting on youtube - even though I have been knitting for nearly 50 years, I have used these for things I am not sure of or haven't done before. They are very helpful. because nobody knows EVERYTHING about knitting techniques and there is often more than one way to do something. I have learned a lot on there.
we had to empty mums freezer yesterday and I didn't have room in mine for everything so her blackberries from the garden had to be defrosted....... I put some sugar with them and simmered them and now have blackberries in syrup. but not enough to turn into jam so have got out some rhubarb and blackcurrants from my freezer and will make a 'mixed fruit' jam tomorrow.

Valhalla -well done on finishing the rug - this thread does seem to be good at keeping us all track doesnt it? :p

hope Jackie O is ok- shes not been on today - yep I know she's on hols but I am concerned after her fall.

Lovely photos of your garden Spider. Does anyone know if Durac!ll batteries are OK in a camera (the gold ones) I know they wont last long but need to take photos for e!ay and have left my rechargables at my sons! :(

Well I was full of good intentions today (as we know the path to H**l is paved with them). I was planning, after my teaching to go to a nearby town and get my banking done for the week and go and buy 2 more of these really comfortable bras that I have found (only nearby shop that sells them in nearby town). But some pollen flew in the car window and thence into my eye - which had only just recovered from the same thing a few weeks ago. Just about managed to drive home but have had to take lenses out and wear my glasses - which are so thick that they make me feel giddy so I cant drive in them. :( Managed to cook tea (Dum alloo) and throw out some old magasines. But I had so much else planned - like starting to decorate bath room!! But surprisingly dont feel like getting up on a ladder wearing glasses that make me giddy! :rotfl:
Never mind - it has made me sit and relax and do a little tidying.
Hopefully will be OK tomorrow. Nite all :A

    Hi everyone,

I subscribe to this thread daily as I love to hear what everyone's up to, but I very rarely post. I had to today on reading Fuddle's dilemma.

I was diagnosed with IBS nearly 20 years ago and have managed to get it under control. The last few months I've felt lousy, even just getting up I've had stomach gripes, bloating, feeling totally pants. Been to the doctors/ hospital and had cameras every which way and the good thing is that they have all come back clear BUT one of the things one of my GPs has mentioned to me is fodmap (link below).

I've embraced this for the last 6-7 weeks. Gone lactofree and no wheat and only one portion of fruit and veg a day. The milk, wheat and fruit have been major differences. The idea is that you go on it for 6-8 weeks using foods from the low fodmap list and the re-introduce one per week from the high fodmap list and monitor the effects on your body. I notice that barley is high. This could be one to avoid. Have a little look and see. In terms of no bread, I am missng my toast however, I have 2 crumpets every 2-3 day. These don't impact my body as much as bread despite having wheat in them. I think its a case of playing around and seeing what works.

    Hope this helps.

I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
  • Morning all,

I finished my dress alteration last night. It is still a bit snug, but far, far better than it was and some of it is also probably the slightly odd cut at the shoulders. I may wear it to my interview next week--it isn't a particularly formal interview so it should be find to wear a gray dress and navy jacket--jacket from the suit I bought earlier this year. We're also going to a wedding at the end of next week, so I need to work out what to wear to that. I have a couple of options in mind just need to get them out and make sure all is ready to go.

Today's projects--work (happily my tasks can be done while listening to music/radio today), knitting over lunch, normal chores and a quick prowl in the garden to see if any more courgettes have reached full size.

Thanks so much. IBS is on the periphery too, mainly stressed induced. It doesn't bother me day to day and isn't severe but it's there. The difficulties of late were put down to difficulties digesting red meat but when I could still consume mince we looked at my chewing habits. I thought I had it under control but the barley thing has shook all that, bringing another issue to light. I'm still not right this morning.

I will look into fodmap. It's not something that has been mentioned. I will also ask about it the next time I see my GP. Thanks for taking the time to post. :)

Thank you ladies, but I doubt it will be clearing up anytime soon, it always flares up worse when I get stressed, though the pain is there constantly. Spider that sounds like it would be a lovely few afternoons. I have tried watching the youtube videos, but I still dont seem to get it right. maybe I've been crocheting for too long to get my head around it? I hope you all get better soon.

Today I haven't done much as I've slept in. My partner and I have been house sitting for his mum, so I've been away from home. Matts dad said he would look after the dogs for us, but after a stream of abusive texts last night from our neighbour because our dogs have been howling from being left so long, we've had to go and remove them from the house - my partners dad hadnt been looking after them or the house properly. I'm very upset as poppy had been left in her crate for long periods of time - long enough that she'd messed. she is house trained, as is Prince, our other dog, we put poppy in the crate when no one is around usually as she chews and we havent managed to break the habit. we usually leave the door open when we are around, and she often curls up in there herself.
That aside, I've finally reached the point where I can no longer live with him. So now, me and my partner are looking to move again, as we cant afford the upkeep of the house we are in alone. The problems being that we have two dogs, four cats and two hamsters, all housetrained and well behaved, but we also have no savings to put a deposit down, and its unlikely that over the next few months we will manage to get much together, and my partners credit rating is rather low due to moving a year ago, and using all of our savings and a good chunk of the credit card limit. We dont want to part with any of our pets, but we are willing to rehome three cats if we absolutely have to. One of the cats we had taken on merely to rehome anyway - she was a neighbours cat and he moved out without her, the other three are ours, two are 5month old kittens, one of them is just over a year, and it is him we would rather keep, he was our first pet together. I'm struggling to know what to do in all honesty, and my partner is having another breakdown because of it.
Any advice at all you can give will be very gratefully accepted. I feel like i know most of you so well from reading the forum from the start, which is the only reason I've really discussed it here. Thank you
    Em xx

Ember, make an appointment with your local council housing team - you may find that health reasons are a benefit on the waiting list. Also make an appointment for you both to see your GP, and each ask for a letter of support from them. Also consider contacting your local pets home to ask if they could foster your pets while you are moving?

Hope you feel a little lighter for sharing - we're all good listeners on here!
