Afternoon All
Feeling quite industrious today - must be the weather!! I defrosted two lots of quince from last year and made one lot into Quince Jam for DH and the other lot went into Chutney as a replacement for Peaches! Looks OK so far
I'm aiming to give scones another go this afternoon - you name the recipe - I've tried it! BeRo, Mary Berry, Dairy Cookbook, the one from here (sorry forgot who posted) and they've all ranged from middling to disaster. I SHALL succeed!!! (just dont know how long it will take me!) Never mind - DH will eat almost anything & never baulks at my failures
Have a good day all xSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Ooohh er lummy Missis I've been a busy bee this morning we couldn't pick the plots yesterday because of the rain so I went up early this morning to the garden and He Who Knows went to the allotment and we picked raspberries, apples, courgettes, runner beans, french beans, blackberries and oodles of tomatoes too. Raspberries and blackberries went straight into the freezer, beans were sliced or destalked and they went into the freezer too, courgette will be part of supper tonight, apples will go towards next batch of cider and tomatoes were roasted in the oven, pushed through a sieve, simmered on the hob to reduce and thicken and are now cooling down in my 'big' silicone ice cube trays to go in to the freezer as passata cubes.....I did enjoy my after lunch cup of coffee!!!0

Well I did get my sit down and my coffee .........and then the rain stopped and He Who Knows went to collect windfall bramleys and brought me home a big bucketfull which have been peeled sorted and cooked to a puree which is cooling now. It will make 4 good bags of apple to go into the freezer. There were a few little fiddly ones left so I defrosted some of our older blackberries and have made a blackberry and apple crumble for him to have over the next few days. Think that's it for the day......unless something else turns up!0

In the true spirit of Make do and Mend we are going to make a new water barrel for the garden. My old one fell over yesterday in the heavy rain and cracked so we now need a replacement.
Rather than buying one we are going to build one from spare parts. I will post some photos when we have done, but it may be a few weeks as I am still not feeling well (it turns out I have a chest infection!).0 -

Evening All
The little house in Cornwall is really cute!! Ready to move into but it is smaller so I would have to loose some furniture but it would stop me aquiring any more carp! Will now need to get my place mended and on the market ASAP!
MrsLW-I have made flapjacks that way where you put stewed dates in the middle -but in my recipe you stew them with orange juice and pack the flapjack mixture loosely on top. It was called 'Matrimonial Cake' - where ,like marriage, you have the rough and the smooth but always with a firm base.
Hope the unwell get better soon!
How productive you all are! Steps back in amazement and admiration :A

Life gives us only lessons and gifts - learn the lesson and it becomes a gift.' from the Bohdavista :j0 -
Ours did that. Just a small split really and I used my glue gun inside and outside on the crack and it has been watertight ever since.
Thanks for the tip. Glueing is a great idea.
Our barrel is beyond repair though. The tap has been pushed through into the void of the barrel and so we now have a very large U-shaped flap in the bottom.
I am going to cut the barrel into two and use both halves for growing veg.0 -

Many thanks.
I've had a few chest infections before so I pretty much knew what it was before the docs saw me and confirmed things. The tablets and inhaler seem to be working, but I am wheezing like a steam train at the moment!0
