Cheerfullness, I got the same seeds, when I opened them I thought I had ordered 10 packs of carrot seeds :o

    .

I got loads of them too and strangely enough carrots were the one seed I don't think I even ordered. :D

Got my bread made, my cake baked but didn't get my herbs seeds sown. Looking around the house I decided that I better spend some cleaning time on it due to company coming in the evening. :o

Tomorrow I won't get much done. Mum is visiting for the day and she loves ebay and will happily spend ages getting me to turn up all sorts for her to look at. She's so excited that I'm sewing, its renewed her enthusiasm. She'll have me turning up all the sewing and crafts sections. Oh temptations although I do have money in paypal from surveys. ;)

This morning I added my £3 to my purse, adding to yesterdays leftovers.
    Grocery spends for today:NONE :j:j

We needed a quick tea so had YS steak pies, new pots (tinned @15p from stocks) and no veg because I couldn't be bothered. Tut tut.

Making up for it tomorrow with HM cheesy herb crusted chicken with potato & onion layer and steamed veg.

Just remembered - another make do and mend achievement. DH trainers were yuck. He needed new as his job now requires him to walk miles and miles with the residents so we paid out for some sketchers (walking on air he describes them).
Although quite worn there was still wear left in his others so we used a pack bought from Wilkos @ 12p of trainers wash. Took 2 of the 4 washes enclosed but he has gleaming white trainers again and I've told him to save those for gardening and other rambling round days.

When I was growing we always had playing clothes, shoes etc and best clothes. It seems to have gone out of fashion and I've seen people gardening or painting in their good stuff. In truth I've ruined clothes through carelessness when decorating or ripping on a rose bush. I have 'working clothes' now. ;)

What a lovely thread and a fab apron.

Thread has really inspired me and a kick up the back side to get back on track.
So repaired couple of things. Sorted through wool and material so going to attempt to make a couple of aprons and a large cushion for the living room.

Last night sorted through seeds and made a list of what to get and organise the garden. Determined to be thrifty and pay debt off this year.

Last year was a nightmare with constant upheavals, this year will be different.

:( The TD won't be helping but also be suspicious of fabric conditoner if you use that; it's reckoned to be bad for elastic and that includes fabrics containing elastane (which is sold branded as Lycra and Spandex).

I don't use fabric conditioner at all, despite being in a very hard water area and the world still turns. ;)

Because of skin allergies I use vinegar instead of softener it works the same and no your clothes don't smell like the chippy :rotfl:
Love people use things. The opposite never works.
  • Cheerfulness - Definitely know what you mean about people using their best clothes for gardening / housework, I used to be so guilty of this! I have ruined some nice clothes in the past by spilling bleach on them, for some reason whenever I wore something nice, my brain would go 'oh, I'll just clean this while I remember'! I've definitely learned the hard way with that one!

Thanks for the crochet tips everyone, I've seen some great (and simple!) Youtube clips, and there are so many cute ideas from Pinterest, I'm feeling very inspired!

I totally agree about having 'work clothes'. I call them my scruffs! Can feel a little embarrassed when the doorbell sounds!

Among the blogs I read is theprudenthomemaker.com
She is a very organised person.....has to be considering all of the children she has!

    Loving this thread.

:) Grinning in recognition at the rough clothes/ play clothes thingy. When I was that age (1970s) we were definately made to change out of school uniform as soon as we got home, yet I see no end of primary-age school kids playing out in theirs.

I follow the habit of changing out of work clothes when I get home to this day. My 'at home' ensemble isn't deathless glamour, more likely to be trakkie pants and a jumper, but it does the trick and saves the good stuff. If I have the decent stuff on, I'm guaranteed to spill on it.

The gardening stuff is clothing which has been retired from a more respectable life due to wear and tear. It's OK up on the allotments, where we're similar in style, but then I nip into the supermarket on the way home looking like Wurzel Gummidge..........:rotfl:I do scrub up well with a bit of effort, honest.

Oh yes, I remember changing into 'play' clothes as soon as we got home from school!....and then down to the kitchen for a slab of homemade cake! (Never had 'shop-bought' cake...and almost always waited for birthdad to get home from work before we all ate dinner together, around the table and no TV on!).....and having patches put on the knees of our play-slacks when they got thin, no point in buying a new pair just for a couple of little holes!
    .

Don't know that I'll get much done today....Warden's visit this morning....and then shopping trip later....I have (yet another!) load of laundry on...towels and assorted 'whites' ...I really need to look at the towels - some of the tea-towels are past their prime...they will be cut in half for dusters I think.....Southern-Baked Chicken tonight I think (cheaper and healthier than a well-known fried chicken emporium!....and just as tasty!) with my own coleslaw.

    Feels like it some days!

    I live in sheltered accommodation!

Disability means that I need just that little bit of extra help and the security that this place brings....although I still have my independence!....I get a visit once a week from the warden to make sure all my need are being met (and for her to check that pull-cord alarms et.c are working!)
