Brr, lazy start, electric blanket on as I rolled to the other side of the bed to allow DGD in for a cuddle at 5.50am she was having a nightmare.
So I've been awake an hour, had my cup of tea, and been reading my mail etc.
I should be up very soon, as today is usually my early start. The time DGD goes to breakfast club and I do work up in the top floor before the shop opens. Today there is a duvet cover that needs downsizing. The big tables are easier for that sort of job.
Tonight is week one of a so week lesson, but I only have one lady this week, the other lady came Saturday morning as she had other engagements this week.
I did my 20 minutes of ironing, and made a padded heart, hand sewn while watching Silent Witness, from my bag of scraps. Also put together a cupcake ready for appliqu! at some stage. The night before I made a pot stand out of the bottom hems of jeans!
I'm determined to create something each night from my scrap bag I had lurking in my bedroom, and see how much it can create before it ends up in the bin. I chose a silly value off the top of my head of £45 worth of makes, so now I have a mini challenge on my hands to convert a carrier bag of scraps into something. Of value.
Nearly time to move. The tea is finished, the thoughts sifted, and no more excuses to stay warm and cosy in my bed. At least the snow forecast last night has it arrived here.
    See you all later.

I'm regretting staying up late last night, and drinking a bottle of wine while watching a film after I'd got home from teaching my evening class!
I wanted wind down time, and the babysitter had started to watch a film, and I got into it.
I still woke up at 6.15, made my tea, and checked my mail etc.
But in truth in struggling to spring out into life, and face the day, as the dark and wet, cold and windy start to the day is not inviting be to get up.
The "black dog", of the winter is sitting on my shoulders, and if I was not the shop owner, I think I'd take the day off. But I'm the owner, I have plenty work, so I better get moving!
    ...... In a minute ......
Shower time, more tea and breakfast! Think I better get some fruit juice in, and get healthier! Wine mid week is not a good idea! I feel as if I've let myself down by staying up late, and relaxing after all.

Well I was fine after my shower etc.
Another reasonable day in the shop.
I'm taking 5 out just now between jobs.
Had a busy flurry around 2-3 today.
DS had wanted me to collect his GF and take her to her counciling session. But it would have meant shutting the shop early. So Biggest did it now her hours have been reduced at work.
They called in to see me afterwards. We were talking about twin1, and her bf and the coming baby.
His father is coming up at the weekend as he won't let the lad drive up here. Because of London traffic as he just passed his test.
Twin isn't happy that he is staying there.

I got cut short as talk of the devil twin1 rang. Wanted to collect DGD from after school club and take her out for a bit. Presume it's to impress the Dad? Or am I just being cynical?
The hairdresser came to me at the shop, so I've had my hair cut again. Bit shorter then the last time. You can really see all my grey! I need to get the colour done!
Can't do that at work though.
As DGD is not here for tea I'm having left overs of the lamb tagine, mostly sauce left and some Aynesley Harriet savoury rice from my stash of approved foods. Lime scent is wafting through the house! Lovely.
So a bit of TV and my dinner in peace, makes a change from CBbies TV.

Reckon a quiet chat with DS is in order, making it absolutely clear that you are not available to run any errands during normal shop opening hours.

Because that's the way it must be, especially during this first year while you're establishing the business - DGD's and your livelihood is at stake - and there will always be someone else who can step in if GF really can't arrange her appointments to coincide with bus times.

In many ways stepping back would be doing both DS and GF a favour - they need to be self-reliant by the time they have responsibility for their baby's welfare, so it will help their confidence to practise problem-solving now, without relying on you Mooloo.

What was that phrase? "Not my monkey..?"

ps. :T :T :T :T :T on progress with the shop thus far - all sounds soo promising for the future! :D

Shop is plodding along nicely. Lessons are a bit low on uptake, but it's great practise and a good confidence builder.
Tonight my Dad has offered to pay for the outside sign to be painted. So I will get a quote. The advert in the town guide should be out soon.
I am in the process of updating the website.
I am doing it myself so it's a bit basic but at least it's there.
    DS just doesn't think!!
Biggest of Mooloos told him I work Everyday! He seemed surprised she said! ????? I do wonder about him at times.

I had a walk down to work today. ( and back), as I could go straight to the shop without taking DGD anywhere first.
The morning was a Cushion workshop, making a cushion with piping and a zip. Then I had about 45 minutes before the children came. I had two booked in for the afternoon. So the day was a long one.
babysitter took DGD to the Cinema, they watched Annie. She has just got back home now. So I had time to make a cup of tea, and start cooking the spaghetti Bol for our evening meal.
The shop was a bit busier today, with browsers etc, and although we didn't hit sales targets by a long shot, we did at least get money in the till £62. Considering last week we didn't take anything.
I have a good 4 days worth of solid sewing jobs booked in as well.
The children are also booked in for more lessons next week, week after.
One of the ladies from the cushion course is checking if she can come on the A line skirt course with her daughter.

Most shops are very flat in January as so many people are waiting for the end of January payday to get back on track . I knew a small trader who used to close their shop for two weeks in January and head off to the sun as they said it simply wasn't worth opening so the fact that in your first January you are still turning over any business is all good news Mooloo.

I'm guessing an annual summer break closing might need careful timing as you may have uniform alterations and name tag sewing business to consider. Maybe first week of August would work ? It seems an age away but it's probably worth thinking about now- as you and DGD will need a holiday.

We are going to Spain, to stay at a friend of a friends villa, 10th August. Got a really good deal when we booked it last year just after we got back from Tunisia. I had to have a plan to drive me forward in the gloomy days, as I usually have a break around Easter, curtousy of the Sun holidays, but I'm not doing that one this year.

Perhaps a poster in your window sooner rather than later saying that any blazer badges (my personal bete noir, which my mother used to do for me) name tapes etc brought in before ... date are guaranteed to be done by start of term also giving your holiday dates, any others you will do your best.
