Thank you Erratta. This clearly shows that my understanding was correct. Appreciated." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

In my chefs case she had several roles. She worked the others around my hours. I was responding here because the topic came up. Sorry if I have broken any forum rules?I don't think you have, don't worry.
Sue's link isn't working so here's another one from HMRC on defining self employment https://www.gov.uk/employment-status/selfemployed-contractorSignature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks folks. I wasn't looking for advice in employment. I would certainly go to said forums etc if I did. I have just been telling things as they are with me. As I have done for the last 7 or 8 years.
I am not controlling the hours as such she can come within my opening hours and help me and invoice accordingly. If there is no work, then she won't come. Or we will create, I will get her working on my Mooloo's Makes.
But at the moment it's not a huge issue. Until they earn. More then the £111 a week I believe it's ok.
When I get back off of holiday 14th I will get the accounts, wages, and regulations etc sorted. Before pay time is due. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
I think getting advice on being a new business and employing people and working with people who are self employed wouldn't be a bad idea. There must be lots of advice out there for new businesses. I'm self employed with a relatively low turnover and I do my tax return myself, but if my business were bigger I'd consider paying an accountant to do it for me and keep me right.
I'd personally also want to be let go from a trial face to face and not by letter. No matter how much support someone needs to do a basic job, part of being an employer is dealing with the crappy bits.
I've had to do it myself in previous jobs and it's not nice, but how you deal with letting her go isn't just about you the boss, it's about your business as well.0 -
Spent the morning at the hospital, false alarm though. DS rang just after 7.30 this morning, so I took them to the hospital, but they sent her home after 4 hours. Apparantly it's a urine infection, and only early stages. So we await another call. This afternoon after watching the Muppets with DGD we have been in the garden cutting the lawn. Hard work. But it had to be tackled.
Strange having two days off.
Be even stranger next weekend when DGD goes to her Mum and I get 3 nights in Lisbon. Yeah a mini break with a friend. First holiday without DGD in tow. Will be very strange.
But really looking forward to it.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

If Mooloo needed advice I'm certain she would seek it in the appropriate forums. She's not a new business owner and has previously dealt with such matters. This is a diary thread, not one for seeking advice.0 -
I'm not sure that it is all that obvious that there is a difference between diary threads and advice seeking threads - it doesn't say so in the subject line and in putting thoughts on a public forum it does invite the opinion of readers who might not know past history etc.
Personally I think good on Mooloo for having the courage to move her life and new business forward and it does take courage not many people are brave enough to start their own business and take the long-term view that Mooloo has, the risks and the responsibilities that we probably don't understand the ins and outs of - people are quick to naysay and slow to say well done - so well done.
Ps - Purpleshoes employing a professional accountant to do your tax return should save you money.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
Thanks Grey Lady, I am trying to be as professional as possible, on my shoe string. I know that it will take a while before I can earn an income from it. As I am investing in different avenues as the business is building. People being one of the things, as I know I cannot continue to do everything myself and stay fit, look after DGD as she deserves, and gave a quality of life.
I am used to living in the breadline, mode, although I would like to move back up a bit higher eventually.
I am hoping that Mooloo's will be an established business before I retire, that can be passed on to, or sold on.
I am continually being told there is a need for my services in the town, and it certainly seems like it.
The bonus is that I am enjoying what I do as well.
The money will come.
It is already improving. I believe that it will work. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
More power to your elbow, your shop seems amazingly successful given the size of Brackley - you're obviously pulling in people from the surrounding area, and despite still not making any income for yourself out of it you have a foreign holiday to look forward to. Enjoy..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

You make it sound rather extravagant when it's not. It really doesn't cost very much to spend a weekend overseas these days.0
