Hello GP...
Stamps...
My local librarian reminded me that many libraries now sell stamps - one at a time if that is what you need - "ask in branch or search for info on our branch page if you are that way inclined" was the advice :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Dearest rtandon - Our library is pretty near the post office, however, I will ask whether they sell stamps. I'm going to be a right curmudgeon and guess that if they do sell stamps (*gasp* *shock* *horror* - how terribly useful given that they sell a limited range of greetings/postcards.......;)), selling them singly will be a retail step (waaaaayyy) too far for them. However, I shall ask and report back, and be fully willing to eat 'umble pie if necessary!
wishus - I begrudge paying 50p reservation fees for books, just because our libraries put all the interesting books in all the 'edge of the county' libraries. You've made them look positively bargain basement in comparison to a £1.20 fee! Mind, I do (really) benefit from getting to see/read books that I would never buy for £20+, and 50p is just about right, imho. Some of the cookery books have hardly any recipes that are of use to me - better to lose 50p than £20.
I was thinking about letter writing today (tenuous link to stamps, I know!) and I was thinking about how much pleasure it gives me to write a letter - and better yet, receive a 'news packed' letter. I was thinking that I really must set myself to write more letters - at least once a month I think. We recently sent a couple of missives to an elderly family friend. I always worry about boring folks to wearisomeness, but we actually got a super little note back saying how much it was appreciated! It is nice when you have something in common to share isn't it? They were once into walking/hiking, and shared ideas about various places. We have been able to incorporate some of these places into our cycling/walking adventurising, so it has been a pleasure to 'report back' iyswim
I really must write to my 'learned' friend - she always has good book suggestions for me, and is just so darn knowledgeable about *lots*, that a letter from her is golddustshe's also a good egg and is interested to know *what I 'ad fer me tea* :rotfl:
Well, I'm gonna sort out tomorrow's snap and then hit the hay. Tomorrow is another day.
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
the kindness of *friends I have not met yet*:D
my waterproof coat - more varied weather in Greying Towers-shire
the art of negotiation - where both sides won, and nothing was lost
THANK YOU.
Thank you for popping in, reading, commenting and thinking of me :A

I feel very fortunate now to have library reservations for free!
:j :j Very lucky round here obviously :j
I love getting letters tooI mostly get them from a lovely friend of mine who moved to Belgium - although sadly she's been there years and still isn't too happy about it so they often make me a little sad
But it's still lovely to hear all her news and she's a jolly soul really so there's often some fun too
(there was even a bit of gossip in the latest one
Well, not nasty gossip - news that a mutual friend is pregnant - so all good :j )
But you've reminded me I must reply! :j Might do that on the train to work tomorrow :j
Re stamps - oddly enough I've had a spate of getting letters through the post where the stamp hasn't been, er, stamped :rotfl: I've saved them all of course but never quite got round to steaming them off the envelopes to glue onto new onesIn hindsight, I should have just kept the envelopes and stuck a sticker over the address! :rotfl:

Cheery - that is brilliant! and a good way of doing it. I recently had a letter that the Royal Mail refused to deliver due to 'postage not paid'. I had to trundle over to the sorting office, with ID etc etc to pay for it and collect it. £1.50 light, later, it transpired that a local 'charity' had sent me an invite to a 'do', which I had no intention of attending, and they had re-used a stamp to send the invite. Now, whilst I thought RM were being a little pedantic, they were totally correct, as whilst the stamp was un-franked, someone had cut it off the previous envelope, totally carving into the perforations - ergo making the stamp invalid! To make matters worse, they had stuck the stamp on with 'supagloo', which had oozed out of the side, made the stamp look a mess, and probably alerted RM to the fact it was a reused stamp. The gloo had also stuck the invite to the inside of the envelope! I can see the funny side of it now......... but at the time I couldn't, as I'd not £1.50 to 'waste'. I would much rather have received a re-used and relabelled envelope than pay their 'fine'So your solution is a much better idea :T
And yes, I'm envious of everyone's free reservation fees now :rotfl:However, I can only see our fees going up, as our library service is in something of a funding crisis
Right, best get up and at 'em.
Thanks for popping in, reading and commenting. Mucho appreciated, as ever

For dinner this evening, we had a version of Baked Avocado Custards (done in the PC), with a selection of salads. I figured that as the sun was shining, I had to make hay and do a salad plate - just in case that was summer :rotfl: In addition, I served myself a LARGE slice of 'umble pie, because............My local librarian reminded me that many libraries now sell stamps - one at a time if that is what you need

I'm so happy your library has solved your shop-keeper problem - proof that the local library should be the hub of a community! (and I'm not just saying that because the head of our local library is a really good friend & keeps me paid off on a monthly stipend of newly acquired cookbooks)
