  • Good Afternoon :hello:

Lawks! Have we been having an adventure :D Our walk followed instructions from a council sponsored *walk for health* leaflet. Gosh - how convoluted and awkward was the journey?? We were walking through bogs, having to double over to get under trees, walking 800m when the sheet said 300....... But we got to the summit! We had our snap :j Took some keepable selfies and came back down again :D But when we hit the forest, we chose a different path - oh my goodness, talk about so much more straightforward!!! We've mentally noted it, and will use that route next time :D I spent half an hour cleaning the boots when we got in - they were so muddy! And the trousers went straight in the wash :) Still, it was worth it. At one point, DP pointed out it was entirely silent (and it was) and then the only thing that *disturbed* the silence was.... birdsong :D I'm feeling like I've had a work out - really had to stretch the legs to hop from one bit of dry ground to the other - we both missed several times and went *squelch* :rotfl:

Had a nice natter with DP and he said some pretty interesting things. We've always been a good team, but he is really coming into his own, developing his own confidence about things and the direction he wants our lives to take :D We're definitely on the same page of the life manual :D

Anyhoo, enough about me. Let's get talking with all you fine people :D

rtandon - your support and encouragement overwhelms me - THANK YOU :D And yes, I'll admit, cranberries are much more likely to be found in my storecupboard these days, they really are good :D

Lilty - I love that you have morphed into a *lentil grower* can just imagine the green blob trying to escape from the saucepan, just growing and growing :rotfl: Bravo on the *from scratch* though - what was in your curry powder? :)

    mrsinvisible

INOD - I realise that you'll already be sat in front of the telly with your 'I *heart* Bri O'Driscoll' t-shirt on ;) But I'm hoping for a good, technical game, with passion flowing from both sides, no injuries and a super game that the *best* side deservedly win :D We'll be eating TAyto crisps whilst we watch and a veggie guiness stew (yes, I know it guiness isn't veggie approved) for us tea. Made it last night to let the flavours meld - with all our exertions today, there may well be dumplings too :j I'm feeling guilty that we've no welsh products, as I've just checked and the beer is from a brewery in the West Midlands - sorry the principality - not playing favourites, just didn't spot any *brains* at a good price :( ps the malt loaf was good - and hopefully will only get better :D

supersaver - you're a good 'un m'dear. I think you mean THIS post re yoghurt making. Remember, if you are using UHT, you only have to heat the milk up to about 46 degrees, you don't have to take it up to 80 and then let it cool, as the UHT process kills orf nasties ;)

Right, I've rugger to watch :D

Ta everso for popping in, reading and commenting. Mucho, mucho appreciated :D

That sounds like some extreme mountaineering GP ;)

It was a botch job, as the recipe already called for some of the ingredients in their own right, but I still chucked them in to make a more authentic 'curry powder' but I switched out things, a la Greying...

    1 tsp ground coriander
    1 tsp ground cumin
    1/2 tsp turmeric
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp ground ginger
    1/4 tsp cayenne
    1/4 tsp spanish paprika

I wrote it down as I went. I shall be doing it again :D

And I also cooked the lentils with some bay which was beautiful. Sat next to me (by my bed :o) I have sumac, celery seeds, caraway seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds... ;) from the same place whence came 7.5kg of lentils! xx

morning, hope you aren't stiff or sore after your mountaineering/orienteering/mudbathing yesterday, GP. l agree that the loaf looks luverly, and is calling my name!!! (look in the cupboards, l have cranberries, and pitted dates, and malt yaay).
The malt is a leetle bit OOD but l shall risk it.
Fave cous and l went out to a friends 50th birthday bash, enjoyed it immensely, but returned home early before it got out of hand, (you know, people singing and dancing and enjoying themselves) that is a lie, we came home because my back was paining me and her shoulder was aching.
  • Good Morning :hello:

*passes tissues* - brings a whole new meaning to 'defensive wall' I think.......

I really, really thought Scotland were going to do it. What a cup game, what an arena to stage an upset..... so close.....

All that fresh air saw me in bed by 9pm :rotfl: How rock 'n roll for a Saturday evening :rotfl:

Lilty - that mix is similar to ones I use. My basic one does have fennel seeds (ground) in it, but no cinnamon and ginger, whereas the African style mix recipe I have is very similar, but has a allspice (ground) in it too. Anyhoo, sounds just the ticket - well done you! If you get hold of any fenugreek seeds, they add so much to a curry powder too - but I find that they are better toasted and ground, but I think that you do leave them whole in a Bengali five-spice mix - muddywhitechicken would be able to confirm that for me.

Stew, dumplings and broccoli were snarfed - no pic, as unfortunately stew is in the category of *brown* food, and whilst it tasted great, it isn't going to win any beauty contests.....

Right, we've got to be up and at 'em today (despite a slow start :o) - chores around the house today, and I'd like to watch the rugger this arvo if poss - even if on time-delay tape. Dinner is going to be green risotto from the student cookbook - looking forward to that :)

Thanks everso for popping in, reading and commenting. I appreciate it.

    See y'all

  • mrsinvisible - thankfully, I am feeling great this morning :D But if we do that walk again, we are definitely taking the more straightforward route. There were still boggy bits, and overhanging trees, but substantially less of them. I think the other footpath needs to be retired, I cannot see why anyone would use it - especially as no-one seems to be maintaining it.

Pitted dates would be lush :D I don't suppose malt can actually go out of date as such - isn't sugar a preservative? Oh, I should have said, my malt loaf is a bit fruit light, I think the recipe called for 300g of dried fruit, I added what I had, which didn't add up to 300g. But the cake tastes nice.....

Footpath maintenance is a sore point - literally - at the moment. My hands are rather covered with scratches from a sloe bush at the moment and its my own stupid fault (well....sort of...if we don't trace back to the farmer who owns it that is.....). The scratches are down to I forgot to take my pair of welding gloves with me I bought (welding gloves can stand up to anything prickly and prevent it scratching and I've tackled some brambles with them on before now, without a scratch to show for it).

There was ("was" in past tense) a sloe bush blocking a public footpath near me and its one that I would say is a pretty "major" one. The past tense is that the farmer obviously isn't keeping it up (possible translation = wanted the footpath blocked), so I've been there with my secateurs and people can now get through that footpath:D. The downside from the farmers pov is that he really should remove that bush now (because people will get through, now they can, and might injure themselves on what remains of the bush). So, he cant miss the fact the bush has had a severe haircut and will hopefully not want to risk any health and safety claims and get in there removing the rest of it.

I'm on solid (if muddy....:() ground here - as I've been reliably informed that anyone who wants to is legally entitled to remove obstacles on a public footpath:T (be that trimming plants/removing rubbish/etc).

I think I might just be taking my secateurs with me regularly whenever I go for walks anywhere now just in case....:rotfl:

Its surprising just how fast "stuff can grow apace" and bingo...one blocked footpath...or perhaps not so surprising when you consider brambles, for instance, can grow some feet in a year.

  • Thank you, very interesting.
