  • rtandon - I forgot to say, I made 1/2 mix of Lily's scones and got 8 square scones. I could have left them a bit thicker, as the full mix should make 12 scones, so in theory 1/2 mix should yield 6......

    Ay up starnac :wave:

    Greying - currently a little bit bored by the lack-lustre footy.......:rotfl:

    I'm pleased the yogurt-making is going well. You galvanised me to get back into it. I make 1litre at a time, and tend to add it to everything as otherwise I don't get through it. I also splash out a whole £1 on my milk to get organic long-life milk. But always use full fat. Low fat yogurt isn't worth bothering with... and full fat milk is actually a LOW fat food anyway!

  • Hello dear GP and chums :)

    Well amongst other things today, it occurred to me that I've not seen little_sweetie in a while. Now, I'm sure it is simply because RL has got in the way, and there is no rule that says anyone has to drop in here, anyway :) But I just noticed........

    Aw, thank you for missing me dear Greying. I have, in fact been poorly sick :( and have missed all the shenanigins (probably rubbish spelling there) on here. But I'm better now. I have to be...I am cat sitting for a neighbour for 4 weeks as well as keeping an eye on a hibernating tortoise called Ernie who happens to be doing his sleeping in a fridge! The neighbour's cat seems to have acquired a friend too so I am feeding two kitties.

    Love the look of the bean soup and scones the other night Greying, yummy. Whilst poorly, I have still been keeping my beady eye on the food money and OH is actually enjoying all the experimentation with simple ingredients and leftovers. He actually said so! He says he doesn't like passata but I put some in a slow cooker veg stew last night and he really enjoyed it. Since joining your thread I have reduced the food spend quite a bit and there is still room for a bit more of a squeeze so thank you so much for sharing ideas.

    I hope you and DP are well and I will try to catch up on posts soon x

    Little_sweetie, so pleased that you are on the mend, I too had missed you, after all we are practically next door neighbours, well in terms of counties we are LOL. I hope that the kitties and the tortoise are trouble free for the duration.

    Take care

    Me too Beanie, me too :j
    Are we gearing up for a weekend of sport?

    You betcha! Has Mr O'Driscoll made the squad this year?

    Well, apart from being super-dooper cold today, all has gone swimmingly :D

    Upsidedown Bear - I thought where ever you laid your hat was your home - is smilie not happy here? :)

    Did anyone else watch that Alaska programme last night? We taped it and have just watched it - followed by the shopping/eating/cooking programme. The Alaska programme was really good :D Very fine photography and very sneaky whales...... :D And at least the gal on the shopping programme tonight admitted from the getgo that she wasn't a confident cook. I did like her kitchen............ :o

    greenbee - I'd certainly consider organic UHT, but it's not stocked locally. I would probably have to go to our nearest metropolitan centre, which would then entail bulk buying. Not beyond the realms of possibility, but I've not currently got the *stashed cash* - but certainly something to consider - particularly if we could tell the difference against the British milk I normally buy. I wouldn't pitch it against my current *cheapo* milk, as it's not a fair thing - this wins on price only.......

    At twilight tonight, we had a robin, somewhere very close by, singing his heart out :D Not only was it wonderful to stop a second, and listen too it, but it also helped to appreciate just how much the days are lengthening :j

    Dinner this evening was a Buddha bowl :j Natural student fare I think :D The inspiration for the protein element came from my student cookbook, the rest was cobbled together from what I had/thought would be nice to eat :D So, we had Chickpea & Mushroom bangers Buddha bowl. Picture here;

    015_zpsbd52795a.jpg

    At the bottom, there is cous cous with some pumpkin, sunflower, sesame and flax seeds through it with grated carrot. On top of that there is spinach, cooked up with some onion and a little garlic and some chopped 'rainbow' peppers (frozen). The chickpea & mushroom bangers are sitting on top and then the sauce is a just a little bit of mayo, some natural yoghurt and lemon juice mixed up - topped with some nigella seeds.

    I was really pleasantly surprised with the *bangers* recipe. They really were so simple and yet tasted so good. OK, I fried them, rather than bake them, as per the recipe, but even so. Definitely make those again :D My one criticism of the recipe is that it calls for 3 red onions - the *bangers* only need one - the other 2 are for an accompaniment - which is ok if you are going down the 'sausages and mash and gravy' route, but a bit misleading if you're doing anything else - after all, red onions are normally more expensive than brown.......

    *NOM* in a word.......... :D

    The *bangers* need to be prepared in advance if you are making these for a midweek tea. But it does depend on how fussy you are about shaping - after all, the same mix would work as a burger, so that'd take next to no time. I used oats, not breadcrumbs, but with a processor, it takes moments to make the mix :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    being able to savour twilight :D

    for documentary film-makers - they go to places I may never get to visit, but can see through their eyes :D

    that we can eat like [STRIKE]kings[/STRIKE] veggie students :D - no hardship whatsoever :j

    Thank you so much for popping in, reading and joining in. I greatly appreciate it.

    See y'all later.
