    The soup looks so fresh and delicious, Springlike:D I don't eat many sweet baked goods, although I love making them for OH, but as mentioned before I would sell my soul for a cheese scone at times, the Nigella recipe is my standard one now, fantastic tip about putting yogurt on the tops before baking, I am far too tight to break an egg just to eggwash anything:money: and sometimes things could look a "little more finished":( If I am diagnosed Coeliac there will be a lot of experimenting in the MM kitchen to try and produce an acceptable GF one:eek:

    Keep warm everyone, bright and sunny here so far today.:)

    What on EARTH is going on in that smiley?! :rotfl:

    Good tip re the yogurt - i am also too tight to break an egg just to wash the top of something :D
  • Yum soup, looks very like the one l made on Sunday, but l didn't have a recipe, so it probably doesn't taste like it. Scones would have to be plain, or mustard flavour, as cheese is a no-no.
    That smiley makes me dizzy! and smile.
    Bright brittle sunshine again, and bitter cold outside, so today will be a staying in and keeping busy one, looking out of the window at the Water board people, digging holes in our cul-de-sac, and blocking my drives with their vans and wagons. They look perished, l may have to offer them a hot mug of tea each.

    Smiley has been walking where he shouldn't and is now being chased by a foolish bull (most bulls opting for the direct route). I am calling Smiley 'he' because if I ever changed my mind about marriage, I would quite like to marry Smiley.:o

    rtandon - I use Nigella's recipe - Lily's scones - all I did this time was to omit the sugar and add in a handful of grated cheddar and a couple of tablespoons of chopped chives. Nigella's recipe; Lily's Scones

  • Good evening :hello:

    Did you all stay warm today? mrsinvisible - did you warm up the men from the waterboard?

    maddiemay & Cheery - that is exactly why I was :j to find that yoghurt works just as well, because I think it is a waste of a valuable egg too :) I don't know if it makes a difference though that my yoghurt is made with full fat milk?????

    I think smiley watched The Wizard of Oz at the weekend ;)

    Well amongst other things today, it occurred to me that I've not seen little_sweetie in a while. Now, I'm sure it is simply because RL has got in the way, and there is no rule that says anyone has to drop in here, anyway :) But I just noticed........

    I found 5p *roadkill* :j Well, I had spotted 6 magpies - for silver - not a few minutes before........:rotfl:

    I found a Scottish beer, brewed in Scotland, by a Scottish company for 89p a 330ml bottle today :j Just the job for my bean and beer casserole dish (from the student book - can you tell??) that we'll have on Saturday whilst watching the France v Scotland rugger match :j

    At several points today, birdsong drowned out every other single sound :D

    Dinner this evening was just the job for a cold evening :D we had Caponata with polenta and green beans. Very fuzzy picture here;

    039_zps207cff10.jpg

    Aubergines are only 39p in mrL this week, so that was good timing :j I used passata, rather than whole tomatoes, but I like more of a stew than just cooked aubergines. I did throw a bit of grated cheddar into the polenta as it was cooking...... oooooh, YUM :j The recipe for the caponata was from the veggie student cookbook, although the recipe is pretty easily available - I also make JO's version, from his...... first?? or second?? cookbook. LUSH!

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    the beautiful sunshine - so warming and restorative

    for the unctuousness of polenta - so inexpensive and yet so adaptable and versatile ........ :D

    for beer bargains - :beer: :D

    Thank you so much for dropping in, reading, commenting and for just being YOU. Y'all are wonderful :D

    See y'all later. I'm away to shout at the telly, 'coz the footy is on :T
