Good Evening :hello:
Well, today has been OK. I did pass up on picking up 6p as *roadkill* - as I had to make a split second decision as to how the local newspaper would cover the tale of the woman who got mown down by a cyclist and then run over by a youngster on a scooter whilst trying to *claim* 6p off the pavement...... the key word in that sentence, Dear Reader, is pavement. Not embarrassment. Harrumpf!
I have been continuing with my experimentation in 'Kon-Marie'. We are a bit lighter and a bit tidier. A bit. But the mind-set has definitely shifted - about 360 degrees I'd wager. I always thought that we've not much stuff.... but there is still bags of stuff to leave the the abode. I always knew DP had more clothes than me..... I was right :rotfl: I am finding it really, and I mean really easy to let go of things that I no longer need/use but - probably unconsciously - I have been hanging onto as they were....... from (symbols of???) another time and another life. One that I've no intention of returning to, so why do I need to hang onto those things? I don'tOne of the items is a very nice (cost quite a bit of money at the time) formal coat from M&S. Part of the reason why I have hung onto it, is because..... it'd be a good 'funeral coat'...... *ahem*. However, it occurred to me that the last 2 funerals that I have attended, one specified 'no black' and the other, whilst no specification was made about dress - but the principal mourners were in black head to toe - I wore a different coat (as it was more me - and I can't help thinking..... more in keeping with the person I was there to mourn...... they would of hated the lack of colour.....
) If, in the future, I attend a funeral, I have a very nice black coat that I can wear (which frankly is a bit more fashionable and a lot less sombre) and if it is raining, everyone wears their multi-coloured rain macs anyway to stay dry. I think we're steadily losing the Victorian concept of wearing black in mourning anyway. I'm also going to let my CD's go. I never listen to them. We moved the hi-fi ages ago when we first started thinking about the house renovations and it is not currently plugged in. I think it is over a year now. I haven't missed listening to 'my' cd's. There is always the radio, and the internet. The album I have listened to most in the past year is available to listen to on utube, 24/7. I will get rid of my cd's (bought, again, in a different lifetime.....when acquisition was *important*) and not tell DP. He has got a real barrier about getting rid of music. I'll gloss over the fact that he has made no move to rig up the hi-fi in the past year - when we had delays and now that much of the work has been completed in the area that the hi-fi sat.......
Interestingly, in being *made aware* of where the 'gaps' are in our wardrobes, I now have a list of what to 'look out for'. But another thing that has happened is that I have seen a couple of items on sale. Ordinarily, I would have thought "that'll do - and I've saved £x" - but today, I looked at a couple of T-shirts with DP in mind, and although they were all *relatively* cheap - £5-8 on sale, they weren't *quite* what was required, and given that I could get that for - at most - £8 per tee, I'm going to hold outThe t-shirts I'm looking for are already available on-line, and they'll come into the shops as the weather warms
MSE is as much about getting what you want for the right price as it is about getting an item for the least cost......
It is also apparent that this house is waaay too big for us (and it's a small house) Our new house will need to be laid out differently (better use of space and flow) but certainly could be smaller........
I have samosa - ed my plastic bag collection (not huge - moving over to recycleables).
I have ranger rolled my towel and teacloth collection.
I have no friends nor social life........ :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:[Joke!]
We have just watched the second episode of A cook abroad - Tony Singh was featured in this episode. I like him anyway, but I really liked his tour around the Punjab. He featured things that haven't been in every other documentary about India - which quite frankly, was refreshing. The only thing missing in this series is a catch-up when the chefs returned home. How did their travels influence what they went on to cook in their restaurants/homes/books/tv progs?
Dinner has been on track for the past 3 nights. I have used 3 recipes from the student cookbook. I'm glad that I tried them, but I shan't be keeping any of them - I already have versions that we find preferable already. In fact, tonight, making the sweetcorn chowder, I did not even bother to add milk/cream. I just use the stick blender to partially blend the soup, which gives it a lovely creamy consistency, without any extra cost in pennies or calories
Sunday night was Lemon and Leek risotto;
Unfortunately, there is no recipe for this. I have to say, I was eating it thinking..... this needs mushrooms...... if you goggle, all the lemon and leek recipes contain mushrooms as well........ The one good thing however, was that I got to try the grana padano that I got from mrL for 59p for 100g ready grated. I don't normally buy hard cheese ready grated, but gave this one a whizz. Glad I did - really good product, just like the stuff you grate yourself. Wished I'd bought more packs now, whilst it was on offer
Monday night was Simple biryani perfectly fine, I just prefer the spicing of my existing recipe, so won't make this version again;
Tonight was sweetcorn chowder as I said, I couldn't help meddling with the recipe, and actually added in chopped red onion, sweet peppers and carrots for a bit of colour. I won't be using the book version - even to impress someone at a dinner party!
The grocery budget is still looking very healthyWe've not yet starved
One third through the month already :eek: But we've had some nice nosh, and I've got some *keeper* recipes already, so I'm liking this skinty student challenge
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
changing mindsets - so liberating when it's apparently so easy
interesting food documentaries -
progress - sometimes it seems a long time in coming, but when it's with you, ride the wave
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. Although last night I thought that smilie was hiding from DrWho and tonight I thought (initially) he was being chased by a Dalek :rotfl: But I believe all is well..........
See y'all later.

I, too, enjoyed the Cook Abroad programme, and had a hankering to find a recipe for the kidney bean curry that looked scrummy. I was alarmed at the drink-driving though. I know Tony's driver wasn't drinking alcohol, but it was obvious that other drivers were.What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
