Good Evening :hello:Believe me, the smell of ripe and then rotting melons gets you down after a few weeks . (It's not as bad as it sounds, it's just a super-sweet sickly smell).
Actually, I can quite believe that. I suppose I was just struck by the smell today, as it is so rare to smell that aroma when you're in the supermarket, as the fruit is so rarely ripe.Paprika flakes are different to ordinary paprika, more like cayenne pepper in strength I think, so they are hotter. Personally I like them scattered over food so you get little bits of heat rather than it being evenly mixed through the food. Yes, I think it's what you get in some pizza restaurants. I'm just off to make a tortilla and may add a few
Gosh, I've learnt something today - thanks gally. I'm glad that i didn't buy them today, as I would have 2 types of pepper flakes that add heat. I'd always assumed that red pepper flakes were savoury/sweet - but now I know better
I went into a mrM this afternoon. I don't frequent mrM's very often. Well about as frequently as I go to mrS's. Which ain't very often. I've always considered them expensive on the majority of items in my shopping basket - there are always exceptions, naturally. But it's not been worth the detour to save tuppence, usually. There were big stickers on shelf edges, showing 'slashed' prices. One thing that consistently struck me was the package/product size. Yes, a punnet of nectarines may only be 77p, but there are only 4 in it...... a galia melon may only be 97p, but they are not well sized compared to mrL's (innuendo not intended............) I also noticed that they had a new avocado offering. A net of 5 for £1.79 - weight of 600ge. They used to sell 4 for a £1 on a plastic tray..... There seemed to be alot of shrinkage, and it wasn't just the prices........ I don't think I'm mrM convert material.
Tea was vaguely what I said it was going to be :rotfl: I did a riff of mudjadarra - rice and lentils basically, cooked with onion, garlic, ras-el-hanout, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, turmeric, mint and lemon. Steamed the runner beans gained from the gardening parental and plonked the (bought) falafel on top. This was all topped off with a sauce made up from tahini (learnt my lesson and went light on it this time!) miso paste, lemon rind and juice, salt, honey and yoghurt. I wish i could say that i sprinkled sumac on top, but I didn't coz I forgotI did however, use up one of the yellow tomatoes that was also gifted by the gp

Edit: I've just noticed that one or two of the falafel look burnt. They weren't, so i don't know why they appear that they were. I'd have confessed if I'd of burnt them. Mmmm, strange thing digital pics.Pounds for Panes £7,305/£10,000 - start date Dec 2023

Good [STRIKE]Morning[/STRIKE] Afternoon :hello:
Here we are at the weekend again. Where does the time go?
I mentioned the other day that I paid my CC bill over the phone and pondered whether I loused up. I've checked my account and the amount has been collected, so we should be all square. I will pay the bill like that in future, and now have little or no need to visit my bank branch. That actually makes me sad.
Baby Greying is asleep on my lap. They were awake for a long time during the night. I am shattered.
Tea last night was HM black olive pizza and chips. The chips were oven chips.
Today could be a nsd, the weather is currently inclement and I've no desire to venture out. However DH is away from the homestead, and may yet be pressed into gathering a couple of bits.
I'm currently cojitating on our need to 'own' stuff, stimulated by visiting charitee shops crammed full of baby/child paraphenalia and, of all things, a conversation over on edinburgher's thread about fishtanks........ I have no opinion one way or another about fishtanks, it just got me pondering is all. I don't want to deny Baby Greying anything in life, but I am pondering about how to navigate 'useful' and 'tat', 'educational/learning' over 'mindless occupation' and 'fashion'. Baby Greying currently only has a few toys, all of them gifted. They naturally gravitate towards the plastic, gawdy and twinkly plinky plonky 'bach' playing stuff..........:rotfl:Mummy steers them back towards the wooden, the fabric and the simple...... :rotfl:But we do play with what we have everyday. Currently my mummy friends have a mix of buy new, buy second hand and have hand-me-downs. In varying proportions. We've not received much in the way of hand-me-downs - absence of babies in the family, they're all teenagers+ now! :rotfl:Are happy to buy quality second-hand and have bought new where appropriate or where secondhand hasn't been available at the time.
I suppose I'm just working through the normal parent guilt stuff again. I'll stop and just enjoy Baby Greying
Tea this evening will be curry of some description. I had mentally 'pencilled in' aubergine, but saw that they were only selling 'gold plated' aubergines in the market yesterday, so that may well change. I will go online and see what mrAl are currently asking for them. I do so wish mrL would/could appear online with their prices. Would make life easier for this money saving wannabee
Right, I must go and do something constructive. The morning has gone and the afternoon will disappear the same way, if I'm not careful.
Ta for popping by and reading. Mucho, mucho appreciated.

GP - I wouldn't worry too much about toys. You'll probably find that gifts and second hand provide everything you need, and as you make more 'mummy friends' things will be passed around. Kids don't need as many toys as some of them have - my niece informed me that she couldn't find something 'because I've got too many toys'. Although it was more to do with the fact that they are never put away...
A saucepan and a wooden spoon will provide hours of entertainment
I'm just sorting through kids' stuff and am getting rid of some. If you want any squirty bath toys or toddler cutlery (I realise it's a bit early for that) then PM me as I'm happy to put them in the post to you.

Oh, my dear, dear greenbee how kind you are
can you send the earplugs express delivery?*:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
* Joke
Actually, most of those things I do actually have - I have a potty (baby sized) tooBut thank you everso for offering - it is so kind. And you have embodied just what myself and another MSE'r were *talking* about this morning, how very, very kind MSE'rs are, and visitors to this thread are really amongst the kindest.
You are right though - and Frugalwoods said as much on her blog t'other day with regard to wooden spoons, and I actually had that in mind as a plaything for BG.
I have achieved absolutely squat diddly. I have a major energy suck going on at the moment and it is boogering things up royally. Cue kick up the bum from greenbee to sort me'self out and stop sweating the small stuff, and it's all small stuff....... :rotfl:

Earplugs can be posted no problem. I collect them on flights
They may come with free noise-making toys... Although the batteries seem to have mysteriously died in some if themmy dad has taught me the art of recharging batteries for just the right amount of time...

Green bee, you've just reminded me of a time of major embarrassment. On a visit to Santa, DS was asked what he wanted for Christmas and replied batteries. Felt bad as I'd been removing them from noisy toys.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes.
