  • How does it work Upsidedown Bear - do you tell the monster your worries, or write them down and pop it into the monster - I can see there is a zip on it.

  • May I learn and/or see a new thing everyday - I have just seen a bat flying about in broad daylight. Never seen that before :D It's warm (but been warmer), hope it is just looking for a drink rather than some numpty has disturbed it.

Thought it was a swallow at first, and wondered why it's flight was 'jerky', then realised what i was looking at :D

 Greying - do you have any recipe suggestions for tempeh please? I was hungry when I read the latest The First Mess post and immediately ordered 800g of fresh tempeh...!

  • Good Morning :hello:

A quick buzz in from me as I'm off out for coffee today. I know, I never go out for coffee and then two invites come along in as many weeks! :D

Glad the cake hit the spot Beanie - actually, it is alot darker in RL than it appears in the pic, due to the lighting. It is the first one I have made with mrAl cocoa powder. we'll see if a ganachey covered one can't be rustled up pretty soon too :D

No! I've never used tempeh :( It's widely used in the States and Canada isn't it. But when I was starting out being veggie and during my student days, the only way you could get hold of tempeh was to buy it in tins from either mega hippy health food stores or some ethnic stores - neither of which were in abundance where I went to Uni :( The tinned stuff was 'mock duck' and appeared in alot of....... chinese? recipes I think.

I was under the impression that you used it as you would tofu though. I thought that it came in a block? You can make it yourself can't you? But that depends on you getting wheat gluten - and I have no clue about that (Mr Internet would be my friend, I've no doubt).

I've just had a look at Laura's post - she's using it like beef strips or bacon isn't she? Which ties in with 'dishes' that the Bye & Bye vegan bar in Portland OR, do; one is basically a vegan version of a Reuben sandwich and the other is a sandwich using cornmeal breaded tempeh. I'd goggle - any recipe that uses tempeh or seitan and see what takes your fancy :D And write about it - so that we can all [STRIKE]copy[/STRIKE] emulate ya!

Baby Greying is currently spark out on my lap, but is listing gently to one side all the time :rotfl: I'd better hurry up :D

Tea last night was...... late. Someone 'ate' the time between 5.00pm and 8.00pm! It didn't help that I CBA'd to do something interesting for tea, and then I changed my mind half way through, to s-t-r-e-t-c-h ingredients and make better use of the oven whilst I cooked cake. I made a vegan version of yorkshire pudding batter, so that the 3 remaining veggie sausages that I had could be stretched between 2 better, so we had toad in the hole, rather than just sausages :D I had to do the vegan version, as my 3 remaining eggs went into the cake. I served it with oven chips, green beans and baked beans. Sorry about the carp pic, it's not a photogenic dish and it was under artificial light.

    013_zps4lhpqgr4.jpg

And yes, that is a 'stalk' in with the green beans - and no, I didn't eat it :D

Tea tonight is as yet undevised, but should feature an avocado. what else will accompany it, is anyone's guess........

Right, mustache, need to check clothes for suspicious staining - not all of which can be blamed on Baby Greying :rotfl: and stick a comb through my hair :D

Cake looks yum, and dinner looks comforting which if your weather was anything like ours yesterday then it will have definitely hit the spot. I noticed several of my more elderly neighbours actually had their heating on.
