    I think that the charity shops are getting dearer & dearer :mad:
    As you say you would be often just as cheap just about to buy new.

    That said I got a John Rocha top a few weeks ago for 4 quid which was a bargain & it is so me :)

  • Good Morning :hello:

    A slow start for me this morning - although believe me, I've been around 'a while' ;)

    John Rocha Beanie? Well, there's no standing next to you in the 'in awe of Fortune' queue if you're going to wear designer gear! :D £4 what a steal - it's good when you do still get a bargain isn't it? Just fewer and farther between these days, I suppose.

    I must make it to the post box at least today ;) - as I've a birthday card to post for a family member's 'big' birthday. If I didn't send a card, they would moan; if I do, they will make out that they are trying to forget it......... ho hum I didn't find an appropriate card with their age actually on it - the choice ranged from boring to dire to way too expensive in the bat of an eye. Of course, there was just THE card in the age range one decade down....... still, it was fancy and must have cost a bomb - I suppose that I could have made out i thought they were 10 years younger than they are, might have pleased them...... and would have been my 'gift' to them..... :rotfl:I have the stamp, so at least no extra expenditure there. I won't get a gift, they won't expect one and have everything that they need - and more. They are not interested in gifts of 'time' so I'll wish them well and get on with life......... ;)

    It is meditteranean pasta for tea tonight - but I have just checked and i will need to get olives - they are on my list, but I need them today! Mustn't forget them.

    I have a suspicion that one of my flat peaches is going rotten :( The round peaches (and nectarines) are, by comparison, extremely juicy - you do have to be leaning over a plate or the sink to eat them. BUT I would be the first to say that their aroma - which reeks of sunshine, warmth and 'ripeness' :D is not matched in the taste. They 'smell' far more delicious than they taste, which is a disappointment - even for 59p a kilo! (demanding aren't I!! :rotfl:) I wish I still had my grill pan (eventually got rid of it because however well you washed it, it would attract mould in the cupboard and you'd have to sterilise it before each use :() I would see if grilling the peaches/nectarines for a salad would bring out the sweetness and therefore taste. Luckily the weather hasn't been conducive to me missing out in the salad stakes.

    Right, best shift a tail feather, whilst Baby Greying amuses themselves with their taggie, I can get out of my...... PJ's!! :rotfl:

    Thanks for popping in, reading and commenting. Greatly appreciated. By me. Always.

    A teether thingy Verbatim. basically something soft that they can gnaw on and chuck about. You can make them easily, but Baby Greying's was a gift, so is in the shape of an animal

    If you are venturing near a Bee&Em, ours has pouches of Crespo olives for 15-20p for 70g drained weight. They come in several variants including stuffed with pimenton. Sadly the pouches are not resealable but I've put our remnants from last Monday's chicken casserole in an old kilner jar. OH picked them out of the fridge last night and questioned when we'd started getting deli olives again - result.
    Lasagne last night to use up the last of the fresh sheets that I got in Azdah after Christmas for 15p a package. I'll miss that stash.

    I know the ones you mean. Our HB sometimes has them too, but bee&emm are generally cheaper, you're right.

    joeyjimbles how did you get on with your paneer freezing? h3r0n f00ds have the Savera in for 69p again, so I've bought a bunch, and intend to freeze several packets.

    The weather can't make up it's mind here - but it's warm. You need a coat because of showers, but sweat cobs with it on - maddening :D

    i bought a tin of golden syrup from HB. It's not something that we use masses of, but they had the 'picture tins' - they had done one for the Queen's 90th. Thriftlady (don't think Sue posts here now, and doesn't on her blog anymore?) but she collects the decorative ones - I'd not noticed them until she blogged about them. Anyway, figured that it may be a nice keepsake for Baby Greying - they can put pennies, or 'treasures' in it as they grow up (we'll have to use the syrup first :rotfl:), and they can either keep it for prosperity or chuck it in the recycling as they see fit in the future. They can keep the Peter Rabbit 50p I've saved for them in it as well :D

    Right, time to do a bit more.

    Frozen Paneer - the only piece that I've used so far was the one that I froze in a hurry in just foil and it was a bit dry. It was perfectly usable in the spinach based curry but wouldn't have been nice for the fried paneer I sometimes make when I can't get halloumi at a price I'm willing to pay.

    The other 'blocks' I froze in plastic bags, and then in a plastic takeaway box - the latter so that it was a big enough to not lose in the freezer, and I suspect they will do better as they had some of their whey with them. If it came in smaller blocks ie. similar to recipe requirement, I would probably freeze it in its original packaging but the blocks I got hold of from the women's collective in Birmingham were c520g.

  • Good Evening :hello:

    Well, time is flying and no mistake. Can't believe we're almost over hump day already! I was musing today that now that it is August, the next 'biggie' is results day - first 'A's and then 'GCSEs', then it'll be back to school. And perhaps all that is even closer for those waiting for Scottish 'Highers' results............. gosh.

    Baby Greying and I swished about the High Street today, doing chores and looking about to see what was what. I got asked in the PO as to whether the bag of coins I was depositing was going into my 'Private' bank account...... I said that contrary to appearances, I didn't actually bank in Jersey, nor any other off-shore haven...... :rotfl: We had a laugh about it - they have to press a certain button on the computer, which is different if I was doing banking with them or on behalf of a business or something.

    I got a big long piece of material from the charity shop for £2. It will be 'Greying Bunting Towers' a go-go when I get 5 minutes to get to my machine :D

    We had 'Nohutlu' - or Chickpea Street Pilaf for us tea :D I have made it before, I got the recipe from Silvena Rowe's book 'Orient Express', but there are plenty of versions of it on the web, but it's a dish suitable for meat eaters, veggies or lovers of leftovers :money: as you can add in or take out what you want :D I made it veggie, just using the chickpeas, but the recipe version that i have linked to uses chicken too, and 'leftover' sprouts _pale_ (disclaimer, I like sprouts, but not necessarily leftover ones.......) I also use celery and garlic along with the onion as a base to the dish. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that I clearly put the food into the dish, and then scraped it out again - this is because i had forgotten to add the parsley [rolls-eyes smilie insert], and having paid full price for a bunch from mrW, I was darn well going to put it in the dish! :rotfl: So if you'd like a bash at making Nohutlu, either as a veggie dish, or as a meat dish/vehicle for leftovers, HERE is a version of the recipe. If you've noticed the blob of yoghurt on ours, that is due to the fact that i used a small bit of fresh chilli, as i had no chilli flakes....... it made the dish a wee bit hot.......... :rotfl: Picture;

    009_zpswhv611nm.jpg

    And yes, that is an entire enchanted broccoli forest as accompaniment........ :rotfl:

    I grabbed a bargain in h3ron f00ds today (have updated mcculloch's thread :D) I got 8 Magnum ice-creams - a box of assorted ones - for £2.49. You could also get 8 'Classics' for the same price. In addition, if any cheese monsters are lurking, and they have a h3ron nearby, there were wheels of President Petit Brie (500g size in the round wooden box) for £1.49 - which I think is pretty cheap? Anyhoo, my dessert tonight is sorted, but shall i have the caramel, or the white chocolate, or a classic or an almond........... :think:

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    the opportunity to write a letter to a friend
    (Baby Greying had a snooze today :j)

    an invite for coffee next week - something to look forward to :D

    'posh' ice-cream treats - especially for 31p each :D

    Thank you for popping in, reading and joining in. Greatly appreciated. Always. By me. So ta :D
