I'm not sure that they are promoting an 8" tablet as a complete replacement. Although that said, if you connect it up to a monitor, at a stretch, you probably could. It's updated to Cyan and is now updating to Denim (8.1)Agreed you need a good connection.......Hard not to agree..;)We will probably be looking at this in a few years time and saying MS were right........Maybe...:)
Incidentally, I'm in the process of implementing an environment into AWS, which is an awe-inspiring environment (servers, not desktops though). The fact that 'people' say it's excellent which suggests that it is......Not quite up to an iPad or macbook air agreed, but, getting there.I'll not agree that 7 is better than 8.1 as an OS....You may prefer the interface (Which can be changed), but that doesn't make 7 a better OS.
Windows 8 (and 10) is a very ugly front-end to my eye, be it on computer, tablet, or phone. Apart from faster startup (ie. waking up from sleep rather than cold booting), I can't think of anything better in 8 than 7.I take it as your opinion as my thoughts are generally my own also and I enjoy the discussion. Thank you.0 -

Incidentally, I'm in the process of implementing an environment into AWS, which is an awe-inspiring environment (servers, not desktops though).I do prefer the Windows 7 interface to Windows 8 (and 10), not least because it is consistent in style and behaviour.

I've always said that power users probably find 8.1 not too friendly. However, the average home user shouldn't find it so. It's great watching the kids who haven't been hampered by the memories of W7 (or XP) just getting on with W8.1without any complaints or confusion.
I put StartMenuX on Windows 8 when I first got it, but, found I was using it less and less as I got around the system. It's still on my desktop, but I can't remember the last time I used it.
I must admit that I'm looking forward to W10. I was going to put it on my spare laptop, but haven't been that needy of late. I'll be happy with the full release. It's worth considering what a small tablet is useful for; the only thing I can think of is if you have a satnav app.
I guess we've strayed way off topic....:eek:Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Above my pay grade I'm afraid.....I do envy people working in that environment however. I chose a different career path and only use tech I enjoy and don't get too bored with...:o It's all too easy to forget, or, not realise, how much Amazon have done for the cloud.
I guess Windows 8.1 has better security than seven as standard, which helps new users and keeps the infections down.

Yet thousands of people have found uses for them....:D Must admit, I prefer larger tablets and use my phone for anything on the move.
