Have a fabulous day Mr and Mrs Newthrift
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :
  • Evening everyone, oh i am having a great time the last couple of days going through my planner, i wrote some cards today (i have the most ridiculous tiny list so i am not being that good) that i had left from last year and the nephews and nieces money wallets (again i just about had enough left from last year) i have started with the endless lists on my phone and written down just in case i press delete which i usually do with my fat fingers :rotfl:and it is even better that i didnt need to spend to get this organised! I have emailed my good friend and asked if she minded if we dont do presents anymore, we used to meet up at christmastime as she lives a long way away and comes up to visit family but that hasnt happened the last few years so then you have to factor in postage, last year it cost me nearly £9  and it was the lightest hamper ever! i have also cut my card list down, i really do not see the point of sending cards to people i havent seen for 16 years and probably will never see again, i need to watch the pennies so the pounds look after themselves :D blimey do i sound a misery??

KAYA congratulations my lovely that is fab news! ooh yes i have just been browsing lots of yankee wax tarts, i have put them in my basket but done no more as i cant buy them yet!

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY oh fab price for stocking fillers for my DD1 thankyou

SMOOSH hi and welcome to our thread we are total christmas nuts that is why we are so organised!

MONEYMISSION haha that is very true it would be a very boring place if we did all like and dislike the same things, i must admit i havent watched a christmas special so might look out for a repeat, yes i will let you know i cant wait to glue the letters down and see the finished look

LAZYSHEEP ooh how exciting, i have just had an email actually from Ocado about christmas deliveries and there was already some christmas bits to order

!!!!!! haha noooooo you cant go back to lurking now you have posted :D stay with us! Guess where i will be browsing after here???

PEPPAPIG do you know you are the first person to say that i thought it was just me!!! I dont dislike him, i just dont get everyones adoration. Ah your keyring sounds lovely, i really love the fact that you have a christmas pandora bracelet

MANDCO thankyou my lovely yes we are both feeling a lot better

3FORHOLIDAYS have a great weekend too

  • I didnt know this thread existed until now!!

I love Christmas, i buy presents all year round, my family and friends think im nuts!!

I have a new list on my phone every year.

Im also having a baby this year aroubd boxing day so im sooo glad i'm organised!!
Ive asked my parents if we can go to theirs for lunch so that i dont cook, or if im in hospital my dh and 2 lovely elves dont starve!!

I'm subscribing so that i dont lose u all :)
Still here..... but working on that!
  • Welcome to the thread littleskintdragon! Good idea about asking your parents to host Christmas lunch this year as it will definitely be easier for you as no guarantee that baby will wait to Boxing Day - Baby might decide that it wants to see what all the excitement of Christmas is about! :rotfl:

That's my reason for arriving early and having a December birthday instead of a February one - somehow I'd managed to find out about Christmas & wanted to see what it was all about! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Feisty are you out there reading? Hoping everything is going ok and you're just busy.

Hello lovelies, thank you so much for thinking of me :D things got a bit manic and it seemed I never had enough time to catch up! Then on Wednesday I woke up in a lot of pain and to cut a long story short the midwife said I'd been over-doing things and had to rest. I've been in bed since 10.30am Wednesday and boy has it been tough! Jr basically went from me just looking slightly bloated at 20 weeks and no-one guessing I was pregnant, to a full on 5 month bump in a matter of days. I'm quite petite and my poor body couldn't cope with the strain in such a short amount of time. Plus I had been decorating the house too.

Annoyingly I am now not allowed to do any decorating and I'm trying not to panic about how much there is to do with DH out of action due to ill health and now me.

Plus we've had a set back where housing association (it's shared ownership) are making us jump through lots of hoops before we can replace the kitchen and bathroom (I may have already done the cloakroom without them knowing) and both have already been paid for by the lovely in laws  I know people will say we were foolish for paying before we had permission, but when I phoned up early August we were told the process was really straight forward and was a matter of just completing a form for permission, now we need to pay for independent asbestos studies etc, so it seems they've either changed the guidelines or we were misinformed

Christmas prep is on hold whilst we box up our life (and the seven boxes of wrapped crimbo pressies so far), as is the IVF, as with the stress of that, moving and my anxiety being through the roof, I'm not sure I could cope.

Good luck with everything, but especially the IVF. We had one round in May and are blessed with being 5 months along now :) If you need any advice or just want to talk things over, I'm only a message away!

Junior so lovely to 'see' you! I am sorry you're having so many problems though my lovely - gentle hugs for you xxx

newthrift have an amazing wedding today!

On the Christmas front DH managed to get us £100 love to shop vouchers when changing electricity providers at the new house, so fingers crossed this will be a big bulk of our presents sorted :T

Currently browsing ebay for christmas chocolate moulds and dreaming of my new kitchen that come hell or high water will be going in and finished before Christmas!

  • Just very quickly wanted to wade into the Yankee candle debate! I bought the advent house last year and despite originally being a huge yankee fan, I really didn't rate it! Lots of the candles only smelt (when burning) if you were up close and some of the tarts I also bought in December hardly lasted very long and the scent was weak too!

The mother in law bought me a jarred candle from a company called Heart and Home and it was amazing! It was the christmas cupcake one and whereas I've found the white/cream yankee candles to have little scent, this one packed a punch but wasn't too over-powering, it smelt divine!

They are also a soy/wax blend so supposedly better on the health than just the wax blend (like yankee) and if you need a cute stocking filler, or want to try one one on the cheap for yourself, I've just treated myself to a votive (15 hour burn time) for 99p on Amazon including free postage!

I'm really hoping that my jar last year wasn't a one off and that all of their candles are so high in quality :)

  • good morning, Newthrift hope you have a lovely day, and that it is the start of a wonderful lifelong journey together.
Free, no, you don't sound mean, you sound sensible, l also have a miles away friend and we decided that we would buy a present but not post it, and if we didn't meet up before easter then, by default the present became ours, lasted like that a couple of years and then we just stopped. Now we exchange presents if she is up here visiting the family, otherwise not.
What fantastic names you all have, newbies, welcome to the bedlam that is our Christmas thread.
DGS has just gone off with his dad, so l am alone. The weather is carp so no gardening, but l suppose l could shovel some of the mess upstairs into tidy piles and wake up the spiders. Or l could browse pinterest or buzzfeed.
Feisty, you will get there, just takes a bit of time. Be kind to yourself.
Nothing Christmas related happening at the moment, who is 'buble?'
l got a bargain in Wilkos a couple of days ago, a new 13.5 tog quilt, shelf price £9 down from £14, but went through the till at £4.50. It is a slumberd0wn one too. DGS says it is lovely and snuggly, happy faces all round.
  • Morning all
Hope everyone is well this thread is really moving fast now! The more people post about their prep and ideas the more inspired I get with mine.

This morning went into wilkinsons and bought packs of prepared hyachincs bulbs so I can get the grandparents bowls planted up dd3 has always done a bowl each for them at Christmas, just. Red to find some bulb fibre and bowls now.
lady in a shop was complaining that Christmas is too early and that all their Christmas stock is now in and they are going to have to be getting it out soon. LOL there was me thinking bring it out we want to see it.

Welcome to all the new posters in the thread lovely to have more Christmas company.

    Have a good weekend all

  • Hi,

My reindeer soaps arrived for my sprout today and they smell absolutely gorgeous - really pleased with them :)

My friend has asked me over for a Christmas themed night next Wednesady. We will watch a Christmas film, have a roast dinner and hopefully attempt to make a Christmas sprout so will let you know how it goes.

freespirit- Yes, was a nightmare running out of loo roll. It is funny and even at the time we laughed but kicked ourselves that we hadn't realised before it was too late. Glad you're feeling better by the way.
I've also decided to stop with some presents this year. We usually buy for OH's cousin's children but we never see them, they're getting older now and the list of people we buy for seems to be getting longer so we've politely informed them we are stopping.

littleskintdragon - definitely a good idea to get someone else to cook :) Welcome to the thread.
lazysheep - I'm a bit too obsessed with etsy. Be careful - it's addictive! :)
