Freespirit, the airshow crash really was awful :( I live in Brighton, and very, very sadly, I went to school with one of the boys who died. It's utterly horrific to think that that could happen to someone who sat behind me in Geography just eight years ago... everyone here is totally shellshocked, understandably.

In other news, my mum is thinking about making some Christmas crafts, so I've ordered her a little sewing machine off eBay so she can have a play. She has some tartan remnants and she's going to have a go at some little fabric tree decorations and some bunting. I've told her she should set up a year-round Christmas shop on Etsy if she enjoys it!

Evening everyone, nothing interesting to report today just boring old housework, why is it when you start a diet you think of nothing but food?? I wasnt hungry it was just the fact i couldnt just go and pick at anything grrrr  I noticed in M&S yesterday that they had tins of shortbread that looked a bit christmassy i could be mistaken but they had deer on them and looked christmassy gold and red, i didnt have time to check them out properly

PRINCESSKITTY oh i am so glad you had a lovely time on your cruise, and found what worked and what didnt work with Wiggle.

MRSINVISIBLE what a fab amount to have been raised well done!

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY haha i dont think anyone is ready for that even a professional who has seen it all :rotfl::rotfl:Do you make that many cakes every year?

MANDCO oh that'll start the christmas moaners off then if they already have them out before august bank holiday :rotfl::rotfl:

MSGIGGLEWICK glad DD2 college interview went well

KAYA oh no how sad for you, there were a few young ones who died, its just so heartbreaking that they were all just innocently getting on with their day, i know my Dsis and DBIL were shocked and were receiving phone calls left right and centre from local friends etc Yes a year round christmas shop on Etsy is a perfect idea :D

  • freespirit66 i noticed a small display of christmas cards (the luxury handmade ones) and next years calenders & diaries in my local M&S last week, but they where fairly hidden down the back of the store, i think i saw those biscuits as well.
I was in a charity shop the other day, and spotted a lovely A5 black leather filofax, it didnt have a price on, so i asked the assistant and she said its £1.50!! i was chuffed to bits, so ive pulled all the old bits out (except one page which im using as a template for hole punching my own sheets), and its now my christmas planner :)
Also our local independent department store, was having a big sale, and all there old single display curtains was being sold off for £1 each plus 20% off, so i bought 4 in deep reds, green leaves, etc which i intend to make into luxury stockings/small sacs for the parents (as im doing stockings instead of hampers) I also bought 2 lovely oven mitts reduced from £10.99(!!) down to £1.59 :) so they can go in the mums stockings. I had also purchased a new joules shopping bag from ebay, you know the nylon ones that fold up small to pop in handbag, i had been using one i bought in disneyland a few years ago, but was looking a bit worse for wear, so when i found the joules one in there ebay shop for £3.96 free p&p i couldnt resist (and it matches my wellies ;)
well it came today, and im chuffed to bits, its lovely, and well made, so i think i might buy a couple more for there stockings.
PRINCESSKITTY, im glad you had a nice time, even if it was only a short break, sometimes its just needed.
GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY, Wow you are super organised with xmas cakes!!, its not something i normally make to be honest, i normally buy a few fruit slabs, cover them with marzipan and cadburys chocolate, naughty but nice ;)
KAYA1991 the crash was so sad, i love the airshows, and nearly always go to them down here, unfortunately there seems to have been a few crashes the last few years, scary.
msgigglewick , im really struggling this year for idea`s for my kids, every year i think ive done well, but after a few weeks, it feels like there not playing with them, last year i got them all small tablets, and they get used every day so was really happy with that, but not sure this year, everything seems to be getting so expensive!
Well, 2 of my children are back at school next week (wed&thurs) then the other 2 the monday after, so after a huge tidy up lol i will start crafting and planning more for xmas, as it will soon fly by, think i saw on fb today 99 days till december!! xx
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods

Princesskitty – I went to an adventure park called Go Ape in the day (the one near me is second highest of them all I believe), I loved it although a few of them were cursing me on the way around haha! Then home to shower and spruce up and out for a meal and some dancing locally. Really enjoyed it and am happy to report I got home sober, much for the surprise of my finace :D
I had been drinking but it didn’t seem to of had any effect. If your Dad already has a wash bag maybe wrapping them up to look abit like crackers? It’s always my fail safe!
Glad you enjoyed your cruise and would look to do another, at least it was a short one for a trial so you know what to do different next time!

Msgigglewick – Big well done to your DD on her GCSES

Free – Mince pies already :p nothing wrong with that.

Kayla – Oooo I am hoping to get in to Matalan on Saturday to pick up a couple of bits for honeymoon. I’ll be having a little nosey round here. Sorry to hear you knew of one of the people who was lost in the horrific crash!!

GTQ – I haven’t done any cakes either!!! I have a few people who have requested if I would be making them again so from October I will have to crack in, it’s not happening before the Wedding (given there is only 18 days to go woohooooo)

Mandco – YAY I will be buying my Christmas choc tubs soon then!! Thanks for the Sains heads up, I will have to take a look as some of them might be good for my Grandparents hamper.

Lazysheep I spotted Christmas on QVC this morning and was watching the light show whilst having breakfast. I know what I will be watching whilst having my lunch later :rotfl: :D

My brain can't focus on Christmas properly just yet as I worry i'll end up forgetting something for the Wedding :o but I can't wait to get in to the Christmas swing towards the end of Sept.

I had noticed no posts from JJ I hope she is OK, sending her hugs wherever she may be!!
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:
    Mum to two boys :heartpuls
  • mrsinvisible wow that's a fantastic amount of money raised at the coffee morning! :T

mandco we like the look of the Norwegian Fjords cruise, but not so much the price tag so will have to see! :o Eeek chocolates in the stores! That's usually the start of everything Christmassy!

msgigglewick glad to hear everything went well for your DD at college. Sometimes it's better asking people for lists when you're stuck then you can get them stuff they really want.

kaya i'm sorry to hear about your old school friend, it's such an awful tragedy. Unfortunately it just goes to show that you never know what's going to happen and when. :( Oooh you'll have to share some pics of your mums crafts!

freespirit woohoo for five stars! Is that how it works then - your stars relate to how many posts you write? I've never known how they work...

betterlife it sounds like you got some fab bargains. I love the idea of making sacks and stockings out of curtain material, great use for it!

lazysheep thanks for the QVC heads up!

newthrift your hen do sounds like it was fun! I'd like to try Go Ape sometime. I was the same on my hen do, I did drink but I also had lots of water so was fairly sober when I got home! Yes someone else mentioned wrapping them like crackers, I like that idea so will go with that.

I popped into town earlier and had a silly moment; I went to Waitrose and there was a woman walking out with a red festive Waitrose carrier bag and I got all excited thinking they were starting Christmassy things but then realised it must have been a bag from last year! And thinking about it logically afterwards why would they have Christmas carrier bags in August?! :p

Have been AWOL for a little while but have been trying to keep up with all that has been going on.
Hello to all the newbies joining the thread and to all those returning from brief departures.
    WARNING! long post (sorry) :o

FEISTY – congratulations!! – :j I am sure you and hubby have been through the mill with everything that has been going on but how wonderful that you are finally able to share. I can’t think of more deserving people who want this so badly. So sorry about your Nan especially with all going on but I’m so glad you got to see her and she does sound like a great character indeed. I’ve no doubt she will be keeping an eye on things for you from afar. ;)

KAYA – sorry about bunny L but glad you got another one too. I think I’m having serious doubts about that nurse’s qualifications. Quite scary to think they didn’t know something as rudimentary as that especially knowing so many people have to go through that process daily.

KARRIE – congrats on new baby Oscar – How extra wonderful this Christmas and all Christmases to come will be. :D

NEWTHRIFT – our poundland did a selection of cloth and plastic placemats, coasters, tablecloths and runners and a selection of table type serving dishes/glasses etc closer to Christmas if that helps any. Hope you enjoyed your hen do.

PRINCESSKITTY – re: the shaving sticks – would he use a wee tin of some sort that you could put them inside? You know like the smokers tins for tobacco type idea? Or could you buy a new wee brush/blades/razor and cellophane them up like a wee set? Or wrap them to make it look like a cracker inside kitchen roll tube?(edited: just seen someone else had same idea)

CHRISSY G – what about a new funky towel for sun lounging? Or fav sweets that she maybe won’t be able to get while away? Sorry clutching at straws now lol and never been on a cruise.

We haven’t done much on the Christmas front as we had my hubby’s birthday to sort out first but I’m nearly getting into the swing of it for sure. Few more birthdays for family and friends and then I can concentrate on the important stuff!

It’s been a mixed couple of months – with the dog passing away on our anniversary and then when we had time off for the 12th July holidays my husbands granny passed away so when I finally took another week off for us to go away just the three of us I had hoped it would turn around. Only for me to come down, one day into 9 day holiday, with a really horribly nasty bacterial throat infection with bad fever and then to take an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Have decided I need to stay in work and out of trouble – every time I take time off something happens.

But on the plus side – we have a new four legged furry addition to the household. Another rescue dog – called shadow. He’s only about 1 ½ years old so he’s a big gangly loon. But our munchkin and him get on the best so we are all very happy. House does not feel as empty now.

Ok I’m still catching up on last few pages so sorry if I have missed anyone but think I better call this post quits before it takes up a whole page on its own.
