  • Well, having a lazy day, in that I am doing things at my own pace rather than rushing to get things done. Going for a badly needed pedicure later, so will probably pick up the start of my brothers hamper, shower gel! I generally get a 6 mth supply for him, phoned me Christmas Day last year and the first thing he said was "do you think I smell or something?"! Well, you ca never have enough shower gel or deodorant :rotfl:

I have ordered a charger pack from Groupon, you know one of those you charge and can take out with you so you can charge phone etc even if in middle of nowhere. Cost £14 inc delivery reduced from £40.

Bought a stack of boxes in Ikea yesterday, going to name them & put what I have bought for that person in it. Hopefully I will be able to keep things tidier now & spare room won't look like a bomb has hit it:o
A smile costs little but creates much :)
  • Clas Ohlson have Christmas biscuit cutters reduced from £7 to £1. Oos on line but my local store apparently has some, so if anyone is interested, happy to poodle in there to get them. I can use the excuse so that I can pick up a couple of beach chairs :D

    Sixth Anniversary
Just a quick one to say that I went into Matalan today, and while they don't have any explicitly festive things YET they're starting to get an awful lot of red and tartan instore... and some scented products along the 'Sugared Berries' and 'Cinnamon Spiced Orange' lines... they have Halloween things instore at the moment, so surely Christmas can't be far behind!

Hello all, please may I join you?

I'm feeling a little dizzy seeing how busy everyone has been!
I have ten people to buy for. I've put a deposit down on a Guess watch for OH which I will be paying off monthly. I've bought a Jasper Conran perfume set and a Pandora charm for my mum, and a bottle of perfume and a lovely little ceramic sign for my best friend.

I have no idea what to buy for my Dad, he's the hardest person ever to buy for so I always end up buying him the same thing- whisky and an Amazon voucher but it's so boring! I think I'm going to have to have a real good think about what to get him. He's 74, deaf and diabetic if anyone can suggest anything?

This year my shopping is going to be a little bit different. I'm going to London on 12 December for three days then I'm heading to my Mum's from there. I have some free time on the 14th so I'm thinking I'm going to head up to London, do what's left of my shopping in one fell swoop then head back to the hotel and wrap it up. That will be for my sister, my BIL, 2 nephews and my step-niece so I'm thinking likely Boots 3 for 2.

I have to finish off buying for Dad, Mum (just one more thing for her though) and 2 friends, one of which I will see for the last time before Xmas before I go away and one who will be joining me for the day and one night in London. Unfortunately in the next 8 weeks or so I also have five birthdays, one of which is a 21st, and mine and OH's anniversary. However I just have two presents left to sort for those- a bottle of Prosecco for my sister and a tenner in a card for my nephew.

I already know most of my Christmas presents which is a bit bad :D My Mum has bought me a printer but she's let me have it now as I badly need it for uni, she bought me and OH a quilt, pillows and bedding which we also have now as we badly needed it, she's bought me perfume which I chose, and a Radley purse which I also chose!! OH is buying me Viva La Juicy perfume and giving me cash... I'm not going to have many surprises!!!

Ps what's the etiquette for a Christmas birthday? Is it really ok just to give one present? The last few seasons I've always given a present to the player I sponsored on both Christmas and their birthday. However the player I'm sponsoring this season was born on December 23! I get the feeling he's not overly bothered about his birthday and it's not a 'big' one (he'll be 27) so will I be ok giving him one really nice present or should I buy him two? This is all slightly strange to me!

Evening everyone, hope everyone has had a lovely weekend, i had a lovely day at my sisters yesterday (although the weather could have been 9 degrees cooler ;)) phew it was roasting! We saw their lovely new house for the first time (they have only been in it 16mths :o) its terrible how you just get so busy with life, i really must make more of an effort. My neice and nephew couldnt believe how much Thumper had grown bless them, he was highly entertained by them making him giggle :D It was a bit blighted by the Airshow disaster though, its not far from where they live outside Brighton, it was shocking enough but when i actually got home and saw the news i couldnt believe what i was seeing, its very very sad and my heart goes out to all the families involved. Today i have been getting the last bits i need in to start this diet :o and just had my shop delivered so i am all ready:o

MRSINVISIBLE mmm mulled wine, when i make some i will pour you a glass :D i hope the coffee morning was successful and well attended

GETTINGTHEREQUICKLY hope you had a lovely lazy day, omg i would be too embarrassed to get my trotters out but my god they are in desperate need of a good pedicure :D Great bargain with the charger, did you get your christmas presents in order? Thankyou for the offer of the cutters but i have too many as it is :D

KAYA ooh what a lovely photo it makes you just want to get in there and fill your LR with red and tartan ready for winter haha

MRSRYAN hi and welcome of course you can join our thread, you sound very organised and like you have some very thoughtful presents, i wouldnt worry too much about giving your dad the same thing, if it is something he wouldnt go out and buy but really enjoys, then i am sure he is very happy with what he gets, my kids say the same thing to me 'oh mum thats so boring' but to me i cant go out and spend that sort of money so it really is a treat to me, whether they think its being boring or not :) oh it will be lovely to shop in London and thats a fab idea of wrapping it at the hotel then its all finished with. I am not sure about the birthday/christmas present, i know i would be happy with one, but i also know people who feel cheated out of their birthday by getting just one, perhaps some of the other lovelies could help you with that one

  • Hi all, we are back from sailing the seas! What a whirlwind of a weekend, we went on a cruise ship to Guernsey and yet we were only out of our house completely for one day! There were positive and negatives to taking Wiggle, but overall we had a good time. A couple of the negatives were of our own making and not doing enough research, and the others could be combated by doing things differently next time. This cruise was a tester for us and we learned from it, so we will definitely do another one sometime in the future. Thanks Salmagundi, freespirit and mandco for your well wishes.

CHRISSYG I kept you in mind with DD's holiday hamper, however I can't really add anything further than what others have already suggested on here. Perhaps a small blanket? I know she's going to the Caribbean so it might not be necessary however one evening I was sat on our balcony and could have done with just a little blanket to put over my legs as it was a little chilly. I hope it's coming along nicely!

msgigglewick congratulations on DD's exam results! You must be really proud. I hope all went well with the college interview.

freespirit I LOVE that you were enjoying a mince pie the other day! It's making me feel all Christmassy. :) The air show accident was truly awful, I didn't learn about it until we got back but my heart goes out to everyone involved. Good luck with the diet, it sounds like you've put yourself in a great position to start it, keep us posted!

mrsinvisible it is unbelievable how quickly the babies are growing up! Wiggle is taking more and more steps on his own now and whilst i'm really pleased with him it's making me realise how fast he's growing up! We do think it's amusing though how he's been on a cruise but has absolutely no idea!

Gettingtherequickly hope you enjoyed your pedicure, I love pampering my feet! That's such a good idea labelling the box contents, I have two boxes of presents but have no idea what's in each of them! I keep track of all my presents on a spreadsheet but wouldn't know which box they were in.

Kaya thanks for the heads up about Matalan, I love the look of all that stuff. I know someone mentioned before about ASDA selling off their summery Yankee Candles, that was the same in my local store. And whilst they didn't have specific Christmas ones on sale they did have a lot of berry ones.

Mrs_Ryan hello and welcome! You sound super organised already and I love the sound of your London shopping trips. As freespirit says don't worry about getting your dad the same thing, if that's what he enjoys then just go with it. As for the Christmas/birthday present, my brother's birthday is Christmas Eve and most years people would buy him one present which I think upset him a little bit, BUT it depends on the situation. He's older now so i'm not sure he'd be as bothered. If the person you are buying for is not that bothered about his birthday and not a really close friend then i'm sure one present would be absolutely fine.

I do hope JJ is ok too, we haven't heard from her in a little while. Although she's so amazing you can imagine her posting soon saying how she's finished her Christmas shopping and uni work!

Hello, MrsRyan, come right in, sorry the mince pies are all gone, but have a slice of virtual chocolate cake, and a cuppa.
My DSIL s birthday is Dec 25 but she celebrates it on June25 each year, as a) it gets to keep her 6 months younger, and b)she gets a separate birthday present.
Glad Wiggle enjoyed the cruise without knowing, and that you are safely back.
The coffee morning raised nearly £400.
Had a cuddle of my friends grandson, 17 weeks old, all plumptious and smiley, mmmm the smell of baby, and the feel of baby, so evocative, and l have just found out that another friend is going to be a grandma in the new year! Never out of fashion, are they?
  • Well, the feet feel good! Despite my apprehension, now they have been done, they were not as bad as I thought, so Free, get them there trotters out!

Need to start making my cakes this week end, so far behind, it is embarrassing, had them all done end of July last year, all 10 of them:eek:

    welcome Mrsryan
we have several birthdays right on top of xmas including 3 on the 23rd & 2 on xmas eve  and while most of them are used to people just buying a joint present I do buy for both even if its just a token gift. If it is someone your not really close to then I wouldn't be too worried about just giving for xmas

princesskitty glad you enjoyed the cruise where do you fancy going next?
freespirit sounds like you had a lovely trip
the airs show accident was awful and they still haven't accounted for everyone :(

sains have some huge reductions on summer stock they had hard coolers down to £1.50 & cooler bags for 60p/80p and loads of picnic stuff down to 10p-50p
got some large plastic tumblers for 15p each which dd is going to fill with bits for her friends

oh and guess what I saw in tesco? tubs of quality street / heroes/ celebrations & roses £5 each won't be long before we start seeing more xmas stock
this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk
