Today is a Bank Holiday

I realise it can hit us all but someone unemployed on benefits abusing public servants for being idle doesn't sit well with me.
If they've all been given xmas eve off as holiday that doesn't make them idle just that they've been given a day off work.
I work hard, if I was given xmas eve off I would not like to be called "idle" because I wasn't in work. I am just on holiday.
If I promised you £50 in your account todY, so you could pay your mortgage on Monday, and I failed to pay. Would you take it on the chin?0 -

No
But if I got myself in the situation where £50 was literally this serious I would only blame myself.
I think calling them all "idle" for having xmas eve off is unnecessary.0 -
I would hazard a guess that there are different systems for payments, as it is two different organisations. So did you contact your mortgage provider?
Yes. They are very cooperative. They want payment fortnightly. Payment is due this Saturday. Have you any suggestions how with £7 and non payment from DWP, what I should say to them?
Oh, currently I pay cash.0 -

I wouldn't take it on the chin, but I wouldn't sit on my !!!! moaning about it either.
I'd be straight on the phone to the bank to explain a payment I was expecting has not arrived and that I do not have enough money in my account for my mortgage payment. I would be asking if they could provide me with a temporary overdraft facility to cover it, or to allow the direct debit to clear even though it would result in some bank charges - this would be preferable to it not getting paid.
Depending on the result of that, I would be on phone to friends and family to see if anyone could help me out of the situation in the short term as I had been let down by someone else.
Next I'd be eyeing up my electronics and DVDs etc and figuring out if I had anything lying around that isn't used much I could sell to CeX/Cash Converters type places to drum up some cash.
If all else fails, I would be looking at payday loan options. Whilst they are far from ideal, I would know the payment will be resolved eventually (so would set a repayment date for say 6th Jan to give some safety margin), and for the price of a relatively small amount of interest I wouldn't miss the mortgage payment.
I would then prepare letters of complaint to the jobcentre (not really relevant for someone simply making a 'promise') and gather and print details of any interest or charges that I have incurred as a result of the error with a view to requesting that those charges and costs are reimbursed. I would prepare to take these to the jobcentre as the doors open on Monday.
Take some responsibility for your situation. Yes, they've messed up, but they are closed. There's no point going on about it or whining that the staff are on forced annual leave, just sort it out.0 -
But have you contacted them today about the current situation to look at potential temporary solutions?Blackbeard_of_Perranporth wrote: »Yes. They are very cooperative. They want payment fortnightly. Then as you say, I have only myself to blame. And yes they are idle for having todY off. But, flock me, I have my mortgage to lay. In cash. This Saturday. And the DWP FLOCKED UP on 11th December.
And on my seceond signing after the assurances. Fork me. It is all my fault. Carry on bud. The daily mail is good for your hands.0 -
As said above, I would be looking at all options financially, selling items, lending some money from friends, emergency loan etc.0

Oh dear. Take some responsibility for the situation. It I called budgeting. It is called contacting my mortgage provider to allow cash payment. It is called coming to an arrangement with said and laying cash this Saturday. Not bad that. 4 weeks unemployed. And skating that out. And looking. For a job as well!
But hey. Your suggestion of a pay day loan. Brilliant.0 -

Things have gone wrong for you which I accept. I'm not sure why but its an unfortunate situation which is not your fault.
However calling the whole lot of them idle for having a day off (which is authorised) is a bit out of order.
Disrespecting the system is acceptable but the actual staff who work there doesn't sit well with me. If you had a job and you were told to take a day off, would you be happy to be called idle for having that day off? I certainly wouldn't.
Still merry Xmas. I hope it all gets sorted out!0 -
Looks like you are going to have failed on both counts by Saturday morning.Blackbeard_of_Perranporth wrote: »Oh dear. Take some responsibility for the situation. It I called budgeting.
