I always just take my order confirmation with me to collect once I,be checked my account that its been despatched.

The confirmation is only triggered once your parcel has been scanned in at the store but it can take a while to come through. I know some of mine have come through over 5 hours after it was scanned in.

It is to check that everything that should be in the box is. It stops people coming back later and claiming that things are missing etc. Some stores do it, some don't. I think it depends on where they were trained and if they had an issue with dodgy customers claimed things were missing or wrong item in box.

Once the order is in store "dispatched" message will change to "in store for collection". Mine did this today around 3p.m. Going to collect this evening when hubby gets home with car.

Boots send you an email to let you know it is ready for collection, once scanned into store, and if you gave you mobile number a text also is sent.

I always ask for my orders to be taken out of the boxes and put into carrier bags as they are easier to carry - they always do it

I ordered into store - checked this morning and it had been dispatched - got an email and a text to say they were ready and collected them just after lunch today - great service much better than waiting for delivery on Saturday
