If only you knew how many of your 'new' products had 'second hand' parts after failing the initial QC checks.
If it looks as good as new has the same warranty length then there really is no reason to hate it.
In fact, environmentally refurbished products are a good thing.
I am fully aware of what goes on in the manufacture of products.
I'll give you a an example of why I don't like new products being replaced with second hand
If you have a product with a device like a hard drive and it goes wrong after two months. It could be replaced with a product that has a much older device in it. How is this fair?0 -

How would you suggest this is avoided?
No manufactured item can ever be guaranteed not to fail and even top of the range, totally hand built goods made with top quality components still fail occasionally so what chance is there for mass market, low priced consumer electronics. (And in relative terms, most electronic goods are far cheaper now than they have ever been).
In an ideal world goods that fail should be replaced with new items and all goods should be built to such a high standard that failures are very rare but these changes will result in goods costing far more than they do now.
Obviously there will be failures but these should be either repaired or replaced.
I know that this doesn't always happen, so I personally don't like it. I am also fully aware that I can't change it:0 -

Do you think when you buy off the shelf the item is brand new and just assembled that morning? Sometimes they were manufactured years ago.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

In my example I mentioned a hard drive which is a mechanical device and has a finite life. i wouldn't like my two month old product being replaced with a device that has a hard drive that could have been spinning away for two years.0 -

How is repairing your broken product fundamentally different to replacing with a different repaired product? Surely the only thing that matters is that the product you are given is an acceptable quality and lasts a reasonable time?
Personally I much prefer the idea that perfectly usable products are used rather than being destroyed for no good reason. My xbox died (red rings of death) after less than 2 years of use in 2009. It was replaced with a reconditioned unit that has run without fault for the last 5-6 years.0 -

A hard drive that has been in use for two years will not last as long as one that has been used for two months. Of course people can come up with all sorts of examples but on the whole I am correct.0 -

Well if your hard drive failed after 2 months and that one has been going 2 years, it already has lasted longer so is arguably of better quality.
I do get your point. I just dont see it as a big deal - especially as sometimes with refurbs....nearly everything is replaced with brand new parts. As long as it lasts a reasonable length of time, I've no cause for complaint. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

They could then replace it with a refurbished unit that has a two year old hard drive in.0
